12 Days without a Homicide in New York City- Lauren Kuehmeier, period 2
Sadly, the longest New York City has gone without a murder is less than two weeks. Even sadder,
this record is a newly set one but has been cut short after the killing of Eric Roman. Gunshot wounds
to the head sent Roman to the hospital where he died upon arrival. No suspects are in custody but
investigators are still searching. Records could have been longer, but since 1994 when records began
to be kept twelve days is the longest streak. Before twelve, the record had been ten days. Even though
the New York Police went almost two weeks without a fatal gunshot wounds, gun violence is
significantly higher than it was last year.
