Opera is being taken to the streets/ Madeline Boreham 4th period

Jonathan Palant is a veteran choral director and has decided to dedicate his time to the less fortunate. A month ago he began teaching the homeless at the Stewpot songs that they would perform at a concert. He would work with them once a week with the members of the choir except a few changing on a week-to-week basis.  The men and women were provided tailor fitted dresses and tuxes for the big night.  After all of their hard work they all came to the theatre to perform their pieces. Internationally acclaimed opera singer Frederica von Stade joined the Chorus on stage.

It was really nice to read this article and see people giving back to the community. Music is such a great way to help others express themselves.  These people never get a chance to have a moment in the spotlight so it is great to see them gaining confidence in their ability and have the attention on them for a moment.  This received a great reaction and there should be more movements like this helping out people who don’t have the time nor the resources to have a creative outlet.

  2. This is great! I've never heard of such a creative and generous act of outreach such as this occurring before.. Especially going to a school founded upon such diverse creativity, this certainly provides ideas for future social projects..
