Many remember the 1999 small plane crash off Massachusetts that killed JFK's son, John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and sister-in-law Lauren Bessette. The crash was blamed on JFK Jr., who was piloting the plane at night and became disoriented before crashing into the Atlantic.
Kennedy was driving Kopechne home after a late-night party when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the water. Kopechne was trapped inside the car but Kennedy was able to swim ashore and walked back to his hotel. David Kennedy, one of Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy's 11 children, died in 1984 in a Palm Beach, Florida, hotel after a drug overdose. He was 28. He had reportedly watched his father's assassination on live TV as a boy and later struggled with addiction.
In 1963, President Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy announced the birth of their third child, Patrick. Weighing just under 5 pounds, Patrick was born nearly six weeks early. Patrick struggled to breathe, due to a lung condition. The infant survived for less than two days and was buried in the family grave site at Arlington National Cemetery near WashingtonThis article is about deaths in Kennedy's family. For some, the string of untimely deaths and scandals in JFK'S family may seem too unlikely to chalk up as bad luck.

Connect the Dots with Homeboy Russia by Jules

A series of cyber-attacks were orchestrated against a South-Dakota energy facility. The attacks were from an unknown source and resulted in gigabytes upon gigabytes of data being stolen and Homeland Security being alerted. It is rumor that these attacks are linked to a few that happened some time before back in March, 2016, against water source energy, aviation, and management firms. treasury Department claims that a dozen Russian individuals are behind an "on-going" cyber attack that has possible ties to the 2016 election.

this is relevant  because if it turn out the Russians did in fact aid Trump in his clumsy climb to the top then that could possibly lead to a reelection and the betterment of America as a whole. If they are not connected it is still highly relevant because cyber attacks are a huge thing nowadays since every government secret is online in one way or another and almost every single thing that can be used to corrupt government can now be accessed with a laptop and a very skilled hacker.

At her sisters soccer game in Bend, Oregon, a 6 year old girl, Namoi, went innocently digging and found a neat rock which she kept it for almost a year before finding out that it was actually a very rare fossil. It was actually a fossil of ammonite, which is a sea creature that lived around the time of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. Fossil of that price usually go for between 40 or $50,000, but because so little is known about Naomi's fossil its hard to place the price, so she gets to keep her Moana shaped shell which is invaluable for a girl that age.

I think this is a heartwarming story of a beginning for a young girl. From here, Naomi's innocent curiosity will only grow and blossom into a full-fledged career. Not only that, but history is being discovered all the time and it is our jobs as people of the future to gather as much information as we can to learn about the past. Discoveries like these should not be ignored instead they should be celebrated and publicized to encourage others to get involved.

Maryland school shooter was shot by his own bullet- Isabella Hambleton

On March 20, 17 yr old Austin Wyatt Rollins killed one student and injured another in a shooting at a Maryland high school. Rollins was then shot as well. At first they believed that Officer Blaine Gaskill, who fired a shot at Rollins to try and stop him, had ended up shooting him and killing him. They have now confirmed that Rollins had actually been struck by his own bullet when he shot himself in the head. The officer's gun had actually shot Rollins gun, which was in his hand. Officer Gaskill was able to stop the shooter from going any further and could possibly have saved many lives.
This article is just another to add to the many piles of high school shooting articles there are. There have been way too may high school shootings and it has become a huge problem. Just recently there was a march that took place where students took a stand and shared what they thought should be done. Actions like these should help people realized how bad these problems are getting and that the more support there is the more chance we have of fixing these problems.

Emma Gonzalez is a bold and inspiring leader, as she use her will to change the world and to put large plans into action. Driven by the horrible events that occurred at Stoneman Douglas High school. Direct, asking, and exposing important sides of issues that many seem to avoid because they're not the easiest subject for them to talk about, but she manages to find answers through this method as shown in her interview with the NRA and politicians as they attempt avoid important questions so they wont look bad.
America has had an extremely bad past with gun violence and mass shootings. Countless tragic shootings occur and many in a space that's supposed to be a safe learning environment, Columbine is an example of one of starts to a horrible trend of school shootings. It seems as though whenever this happens no actual change is made, people just give out, "thoughts and prayers," of which will not bring an end to the countless massacres and will not bring the dead back. Even though it took so long, it's nice to hear that someone has finally had enough and is standing up to fight for a safer environment for everyone. Hopefully this time change will be made, marking a new era of safety.

US government is officially investigating Facebook. Facebook stock fell so as much as 5% in early trading Monday, pushing the share price below $150 for the first time since July.  The FTC sent a letter to Facebook with questions about how to social media company allowed to the data to wind up in the hands of Trump campaign consultants.  Facebook‘s deputy chief privacy officer,  Rob Sherman,  said that Facebook remain strongly committed to protecting peoples information.  The FTC serve a complaint against Facebook in 2011 for falling short of privacy promises to their users.  They also found out that the app allows third-party applications to access  users information.

I find this very unsafe that  Facebook isnt as safe as we think it is.  This relates to US history  because somehow Facebook is linked to Trump during his campaign and possibly gave him information about users.  This could get very controversial and I hope Facebook protects our information better.

Connor Norton - The brutal killing of a Holocaust survivor raises anti-Semitism fears in France

A brutal murder last Friday has left France's Jewish community on edge after 85-year-old Mireille Knoll was stabbed 11 times and left to die in her burning apartment, likely the victim of a horrendous hate crime. Jewish advocacy groups have been quick to point out the very possible anti-Semitic motivations for such an attack especially in the changing political climate in Europe, now marked by historical revisionism and the rise of neo-Nazi or otherwise racist individuals in some countries. This has also been put into context with the April 2017 murder of 66-year-old Sarah Halimi, a Jewish schoolteacher beaten to death and thrown out her window, allegedly by a neighbor family recall as having used racial slurs and derogatory names/actions in the past when interacting with people of the Jewish faith. Jewish officials have seemed hesitant to suspect hate-crime motivations for both of these cases, to the outrage of Jewish leaders and advocacy groups and against growing public pressure to acknowledge such intentions as possible if not proven. This news comes a few years after the slaying of another Jewish man for clearly racist reasons and amid calls for reason in these times of heightened racial tension coming from Europe's most famous Nazi hunters Serge and Beate Klarsfeld.

This ties in America to the Charleston Church shooting in 2015 in which white supremacist Dylan Roof murdered nine people during worship in hopes of starting a race war, carrying out the most deadly shooting at a place of worship from its occurrence until 2017 when it was surpassed by the shooting at Sutherland Springs. The obvious connection here is that both of these were crimes with very real and very terrifying racist motivations, racism held so passionately by these perpetrators that it led them to commit the most abhorrent, ultimate crime of taking the lives of other human beings. Dylan Roof may have been sentenced to capital punishment in federal court for his crimes, and French authorities are currently investigating the murders outlined above, but racial tensions still exist very prominently in both French and American society, and to expect the sentencing of our worst criminals to "cure" racism without the accompanying re-examination of the systemic issues giving them hate and giving them the power to kill another out of hate is a fool's errand.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/03/26/citizenship-question-put-back-2020-census/461044002/

The U.S. commerce department has decided to reinstate a question of citizenship to the 2020 census.
The censes takes place every ten years, and is designed to count the number of people in the country, not the number of citizens. The count is used to redraw congressional districts, SO it will affect the makeup of congress. This has some people upset and conflicted. The commerce department stated that the question is being added to enforce the voting rights act. Most people agree that the question is unnecessary, and will give innacurate resultus as many people will be afraid to fill out the form.

Shayne Grant: Senator criticizes Parkland survivor's jacket accessories

Iowa Rep. Sen. Steve King posted a "meme" on his campaign Facebook page in which he makes fun of Parkland shooting survivor Emma Gonzales. The joke was aimed at the fact that Gonzales wore a Cuban flag patch when speaking at the March For Life rally on Saturday. He points out that Gonzales's grandparents fled Cuba after that dictatorship took away their guns and placed them under a totalitarian regime. Fellow survivor and activist David Hogg has asked Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to comment on the situation as Rubio's parents fled Cuba as well. King is not new to the arena of controversial statements on this mass shooting and other events over the years such as hanging a confederate flag in his office without claiming "southern heritage" as he is from the North.

While it is fine to disagree with Gonzales's statements made on Friday, it was not appropriate for an adult senator to target a teenager.  King also has attacked her after knowing no prior knowledge to the situation. There are many other reasons that Gonzales would wear the patch other than she supports the Cuban dictatorship. While King's opinions are valid, a "meme" is not the way to address them. This is similar to the "revolutions" of the early 1960s in which children began to break away from adult America and express very different views in the midst of the Second Red Scare.

Linda Brown wanted to be en-rolled in an all white school in Topeka, Kansas. Her father, Oliver Brown tried and the NAACP's legal arm brought the lawsuit to challenge segregation in public schools. Oliver Brown was the plaintiff in Brown v. Board of Education. As history continues, Brown won, and the plessy v Ferguson decision was overturned. "sixty four years ago, a young girl from Topeka, Kansas sparked a case that ended segregation in public schools in America. Linda was an inspirational woman who symbolized a freedom for african-americans.
This article was written for people who were for the desegregation of schools. It can related to the civil rights movement in the 1950's-70's, where many activists and events were breaking the glass ceiling. This article also mentions the Plessy v. Ferguson, a bill that call african-americans seperate but equal.

http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/26/technology/arizona-suspends-uber-self-driving-cars/index.html

Summary: Uber has been currently using states to do test drives for their self driving vehicles. Early last week one car became out of control and ran into and killed a pedestrian, since then there has been a further investigation. Recently today the amazonia governor has outlawed the tests in the state by stating that the accident was "disturbing and alarming." In response to this Uber has taken all of its autonomous vehicles from the roads.
This article was written on March 26, 2018 written by Selena Larson. This article was made to be targeted by the people and just to warn people that these things are happening and to just be careful. I feel like the governor made the right decision because this could happen again depending on what the technology is doing and how it reacts to the different environment. This article was also a follow up on the recent one to just keep people updated.

Carlo Lomas - Tariffs on steel and aluminum imports

Despite backlash, Trump is s going to” protect the industries so they can grow”, by placing a twenty-five percent tariff on imported steel and a ten percent tariff on imported aluminum. His fellow Republicans, investors, and companies, both warned that things would not work out. Retaliation against American exports, a decrease in sales, and increase in job losses are some of the things expected to happen with this new decision.
Post WWII, the reciprocal trade agreements lowered the tariff which helped the economy in regards of trade. They increased foreign trade and bettered relations with Latin American (something the United States needs to do with neighboring countries right now). That was a huge landmark for the United States so I think it’s important to learn from what works and what doesn’t.
I think that this wasn’t something he thought through clearly. It seems rash to me since he didn’t listen to many who have complained against it. If he would’ve used his brain, he would see that this isn’t something that could work out for many reasons. Throughout history, a raised tariff has never created positive long terms effects. It’s like Trump wants to give us enemies. I think he needs to look at things in pieces and analyze the effects it could have on many different aspects. He says that this will allow companies to expand and allow them to hire more workers...this sounds like mass production to me and no one will want to make purchases because of the tariffs. We saw how mass production in the twenties hurt the economy. Farmers had been producing so much which lowered the  prices of the product, therefore, decreasing their profits. I would think that’s common sense. Apparently it’s supposed to be a signed deal next week but I hope it doesn’t go through.

Summary:

Linda Brown, the face of the court case Brown v. The board of Education, died at 75 in Topeka, Kansas. She was oneof the most influential people we have had int the history of the US. She is the reason why our schools are no longer segregated.

Analysis:

It amazed me that the court case was so recent in our history. i never really realized that people who lived through segregation are still alive. Linda Brown and her family are some of my role models who have taught me to fight for what is right. This relates to history because in the court case Brown vs. the Board of Education it was declared illegal to segregate public spaces like schools, bus terminals, etc.

Wolfgang Hunter - WH official: Peña Nieto calls off visit to White House

Mexican President Pena Nieto recently called off a meeting with Trump and his advisors in the White House due to a heated debate over with President Trump over the phone. The argument began due to stubborn and provincial views on foreign and domestic policies.

I can draw this event to that of the 1945 Yalta Conference, in which capitalist Churchill and Roosevelt argued with communist Joseph Stalin regarding the post-war makeup of the European continent. It's obvious that the group drew a stalemate because of the varying actions taken by the countries after the European theater closed and Nazi Germany was defeated.

On March 25, a huge fire occurred at a Russian shopping center mall. Fire alarms were turned off and fire exits were blocked, causing 64 deaths. The article includes an Instagram post with footage and a story of one of the survivors. The video shows just how chaotic and rushed everyone was to get out of the building in order to reach the single exit of the four story building. Of this mall, 1600 square meters were caught on fire. It is so sad that 64 lives were lost because of violations of the mall such as not opening all the exits and disabling the fire alarms. Hopefully the authorities can get to the cause of this tragedy.

Suicide is a big issue today because many people do not know how to combat their depression or anxiety which leads to unhealthy thoughts. In the UK, Project 84 is doing something about it. Overnight, they set up 84 models of men posed in a ring around a building in London to raise awareness for the life claiming problem. In the UK, an average of 84 men under the age of 45 commit suicide weekly, and sculptor Mark Jenkins had heard enough. He is known for his unique sculptures that are often meant to interact with passerby in a public area. These "fake" people are perched on the edge of a few buildings spread throughout London and they have been the topic of conversation online. Some denounce the sculptures saying that they will causes "so many people to call 999 about a possible group suicide" or that the idea is "perverse." However, they have gotten people's attention and is all they were meant to do.

Learning about the Civil Rights Movement, we know that through passive protests such as sit ins and marching that African Americans spread national awareness about their cause and in a way this is the same thing that has been done. However, in this case, a person heard a problem and wanted to promote better way to deal with it. There is no crime in wanting to prevent deaths that go on to affect a lot of people, whether they were close with the person or not, everyone knows that suicide is not something to ignore.

Rick Santorum, former Pennsylvania senator, stated that students should be learning CPR and how to protect themselves and other students if a violent shooter comes in rather than rallying for gun control. He believes that students should take care of their own problems and not look to others to solve them. He even suggested that students try solving bullying problems instead of seeking for protection. These statements outraged many teens and caused many eruptions on social media.
I am stunned that this guy made these statements and stands strong in them. I think that he could have said his opinions in a different way that wasn’t as harsh. The relates to our history because in the past there have been times when it was hard to get a law passed because a group of people had contradicting views on a matter. They weren’t afraid to speak their mind and defy against everyone else’s thoughts.

US Expels Russian Diplomats

Trump Expelling 60 Russian Diplomats in Wake of UK Nerve Agent Attack

Source:CNN

Blog Post #4

Summary: The US has expelled 60 Russian diplomats as of Monday/today. They are joining other countries such as Ukraine, Australia, the UK,Canada, and those of the EU. This is occurring because of a recent alleged nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter. Sergei Skripal was a former Russian spy who exposed over 300 KGB spies to Western intelligence agencies. Many believe that this is a message to other traitors to the Russian intelligence agencies that no matter where they are, they can be found and attacked/killed.

Analysis: This is the most Russian diplomats expelled since the Cold War began and took place. This is also very terrifying because there is still no solid proof behind this murder attempt, but the evidence on hand points to Russia's involvement.  I agree with this because it looks a little too suspicious to be a random attack.  A former Russian spy that blew the cover of over 300 Russian spies gets attacked by a Soviet Union developed chemical agent? That seriously isn't related or anything to Russia. (COUGH). My sympathies to Sergei Skripal and his daughter and hope that they recover.

Linda Brown, Symbol of Landmark Desegregation Case, Dies - The New York Times

Summary-  Linda and her father played an important role in the civil rights movement; it was her father's name (Oliver Brown) whose name is attached to the famous case of Brown v Board of education. It all started when she was not allowed to attend an all-white school in her neighborhood. Her family was among several that reopened the original Brown case in 1979, and the case resulted in the opening of several magnet schools. Today on March 26, 2018 Linda Brown's death was confirmed; however her landmark on the civil rights movement did not.

Analysis- This article was written by Neil Genzlinger, he began reviewing for The Times in 2000 while still a copy editor at the paper, and has been a full-time critic since 2011. I would say I had an ample amount of knowledge of the topic since we are going over the civil rights movement in class.

Ellie Bush current event

Linda Brown, who as a schoolgirl was at the center of the landmark US Supreme Court case that rejected racial segregation in American schools, died in Topeka, Kansas, Sunday Afternoon. The newspaper says Brown was 75, but some sources have said she was 76. The 1954 Supreme Court Case, Brown v Board of Education was a monumental case in United States history, and involved several families, all trying to dismantle decades of federal education laws that condoned segregated schools for black and white students.

This is very heartbreaking to hear considering we are learning about the Civil Rights movement right now, and how the Brown v Board of Education court case was the event that triggered the Civil Rights movement. Without it, there might not have even been a movement, or it wouldn't have come until later on in history. The Brown v Board of Education case overturned the previous case of Plessy v Ferguson, the insulting "separate but equal" decision. This case also led to the allowance of the Little Rock Nine to go to the Arkansas school Little Rock Central. It also led to protests such as the Montgomery bus boycott. Overall, this court case heavily impacted United States history and will always be one of the most important symbols of the Civil Rights movement.

Linda Brown, woman at center of Brown v. Board case, dies - Chloe Walker

Linda Brown, who was the little girl who went against the Topeka Board of Education or historically known as Brown v. Board has passed away. The famous case ended racial segregation in public schools. Sadly the process of school desegregation took years for schools across the nation to comply with the ruling of Brown vs. Board. "Linda Brown is one of that special band of heroic young people who, along with her family, courageously fought to end the ultimate symbol of white supremacy -- racial segregation in public schools." said Sherrilyn Ifill. Linda Brown was only 9 at the time of the case and past away Sunday at the age of 75.

This article was written by Emanuella GrinbergSheena Jones and Amir Vera from CNN. Before reading this article I had already known about the historically famous civil rights case Brown vs. Board. Until this article I was aware at the news of her death. This effects my understanding of the article because I know how important the civil rights case in the article is and it effects on public school education. This article was written to inform those about the death of Linda Brown, someone who influence public school education. This article is important because it show that segregation in schools was not long ago. Its sad to know that there are still people who are lived during this time period are alive today.

First Museum Committed to Sharing the Stories of Historically Black Colleges Opens - Smithsonian
https://apple.news/AZBXZ1-bBQwyAfDYd5yV9HQ

The Historically Black College and Universities Museum which has just opened in Washington DC is the first in a four part plan to open a larger for-profit museum in the D.C and, according to Terrence Forte, “bridge the gap for those who might not know about historically black college and universities’ stories.” Terrence Forte founded the museum with his family and works as its executive director.

I️ think it’s incredibly important to celebrate black history even outside of February. It’s easy for eighteenth century historians to not include detail or care about what was happening to black culture because, well, they didn’t necessarily think non-whites to have the same respects to put it in a nice way. It is up to us, then, to commemorate both the victories and realities which befell African descendants. One of the many victories was the establishment of schools and universities for African Americans when many (if not, no) colleges would enroll them. I relate this to the Black Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and 70s, which gained much fought-for legislation against segregation, like that of schools and other public institutions.

Michael Perez Jr. a former U.S. veteran has been deported back to Mexico. Perez has served two tours in Afghanistan. However, in 2010 was sentenced to 15 years in prison and his green card was taken away. due to a drug issue. He had been in the custody of ICE since 2016. Perez said his service in Afghanistan led him to the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Perez was 8 years old when he came to the U.S. and is now 39 years old. Perez stated to the public that they are going on a hunger strike. However, he is not contemplating suicide.

This situation is very similar to when during the Great War, illegals were brought back from their home country to help fight the war and then sent back. This also isn't right in my opinion. This man serve out country and no matter what he is still a veteran and deserves the respect and love that any other American veteran needs.

ANALYSIS:

Over the years, many people have started to turn toward renewable energy. The main source that has been sweeping the nation is solar energy. In Dallas, a large percentage of people find ways to implement this renewable energy source into their homes. Plus, consider the growing use of solar panels, the price to install them has reduced dramatically. Also, since you use less energy by using solar panels, the city eventually pays you for conserving power. They not only save the planet, save you money, and provide clean energy, but they also look cool as hell.

I love the idea of using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. I like knowing that my choice has contributed to the conservation of our beautiful planet. If only we discovered this earlier in history, then we would have some sort of machine that converts our voice into energy or something.

I think Emma is a role model to look up to! She believes in what she believes in and is fighting for it!
we should all be like Emma and stand up for what we believe in. Our voices matter and we can change the world with it!
This can relate to the protest after the shooting as individuals laid down in front of the white house!

Manon McCollum -- U.S. to expel 60 suspected Russian spies as punishment for poison attack in Britain

http://www.latimes.com/politics/washington/la-fg-us-russian-20180326-story.html

In response to the shameless killing of a former Russian agent in Britain, along with his daughter, the United States expelled 60 suspected Russian spies from the country, as well as closing a Russian consulate in Seattle. In the largest retaliation against foreign intelligence since the Cold War, this unanimously lauded move simply underpins the tense relations between Russia and the rest of the world.

One person remaining mysteriously quiet during this otherwise triumphant exercise in national security is our President, Donald J. Trump. This expulsion seems to be a unanimous victory on the part of the West, but the President is not sharing in the glory.

In the history of US foreign policy, especially against Russia, all branches and parties have been united in opposition, for better or worse. To see the President hesitant to support the ousting of russian spies is a strange place to be.

A nation wide protest was being planned and students weren’t the only ones planning. Adults had stepped in and decided to help the students organize these protest for March For our Lives. The adults actually helped and understood rather the. Make the situation worst.

People often interpret that teenagers are all against adults I think this proves them wrong. Teenagers most of all need and want the help and approval of adults around them. It lets them know that they are somebody and not just anybody. With these adults help these students were able to organize a nation wide protest. I think this is important to US history because there is often a huge divide between adults and teens but we need to work together to pull it together. This is like the civil rights march because it wasn’t just adults it was teenagers protesting as well.

Emma Gonzalez

Emma Gonzalez is a student and survivor of the devastating Parkland shooting in Florida, spoke at the March for Our Lives. But more stunning than her speech, was her silence. For 6 minutes and 20 seconds she stood in silence on the stage. These several silent minutes were to represent the length of the shooting spree in her school. "In a little over 6 minutes," she said, "17 of our friends were taken from us, 15 were injured and everyone in the Douglas community was forever altered".  She goes on to say how very few are able to understand the extent of the situation, and of the monstrosity of gun violence. She stood silent for several minutes, her speech and silence altogether totaling about 6 and a half minutes. This represents the time it took for 17 people to be killed. Her most hard hitting words before she left the stage were, "fight for your lives before it's someone else's job".

The fact that these kids who are my age are pulling such a huge movement forward is amazing. This is similar to the youth, free speech, and civil rights movements of the 1950s and '60s. Emma Gonzalez is a powerful speaker, able to touch any who listen. It's easy to compare her to MLK or Rosa Parks, as both were prominent in the civil rights movement. MLK was a powerful and captivating speaker, just as Emma is. Both are the faces of massive movements shaping America going into the future.

Ashley Neece March for Our Lives

This weekend many joined in the March for Our Lives march thar brought up issues of gun violance espaclly in schools, this happen all over the world in places such as France and Austrailia. The most notable was in Washington D.C. There where celberties performing and many students from Stoneman Douglass. Many where insupport of this, but there where those who weren't. This movement was pushed by many students, much like the student movements in the 60s or 70s.

Zoe Nguyen- In Gun Control Marches, Students Led but Adults Provided Key Resources

In Gun Control Marches, Students Led but Adults Provided Key Resources
March for Our Lives protests that unfolded on Saturday drew hundreds of thousands of demonstrators across the country which were inspired and often led by students. As there has been an insane amount of school shootings, the Parkland shooting made students say enough and fight for gun regulation. In opposition to this, Breitbart, a conservative website, said the events were “directed, promoted and funded by left-wing adults and adult-led organizations.” Although some adults were involved in planning, students were crucial in the orcestrating of the protests.

This relates to the U.S. constitution, specifically the 2nd amendment. It says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is super irrelevant to modern times since the advancement of technology has made it so weapons are faster and more powerful.

Trump Allegedly Paid Stormy over $130,000 to keep quiet -Michal Randolph

Stormi Daniels is an Adult Film Star that was invited into President Trumps Hotel Room. She said they had a casual conversation, were intimate once and that is it. Daniel's Lawyer was offered a contract in regards to their affair offering$130,000 to decline any interviews about the scandal. Her and her lawyer ended up signing the contract along with Micheal Cohen ,Trump's Lawyer. However, there was a space left for President Trump's Signature but it was never signed there for Daniel's Lawyer deemed it invalid.

This is another Sex Scandal that can be compared to Bill Clinton's. These scandals within the Political community need to be more privately dealt with in my opinion.

Women dead by stray bullet- Sanaya

Summary:

Shirley Pfeil, a 73-year-old women, died in her kitchen after she was struck by a stray bullet. The reason for this unfortunate incident was because a neighbor was shooting targets as practice during the time and missed a pile of dirt. “Investigators say that the bullet entered her home off Dunn Road in Riley Township on Sunday afternoon”.

Analysis:

Shooting guns is dangerous period. No good has come out of the use of guns and this is why our country needs stronger gun laws. A 73 woman who was just minding her own business sitting in her own house WAS SHOT. This is getting out of control. I feel horrible for that poor lady; she shouldn’t have died because of a stupid gun accident.

Trump has passed a law banning bump stocks and preventing legal weapons from becoming illegal. This is one of the few socially positive things Trump has done to prevent shootings and gun violence, so at least he's trying to put an end to illegal weapons getting into the wrong hands. With all of the shootings lately, I'm glad to see that Trump has put some executive power into putting a stop to it all instead of doing absolutely nothing.

Family found Dead- Spencer Bolding

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5537737/Iowa-family-four-dead-Tulum-Mexico-condo-friends-reported-missing.html

In Tulum, Mexico a family of four went on vacation over spring break. When they did not show up for their flight on March 21st, friends and family began to get nervous and could not get a hold of them. This place is a major attraction for families from all over the world looking to go on vacation and recently it has come out that there a serious drug problems and illegal smuggling that is getting out in the news. The family was from Iowa and there names were Kevin, Amy, Sterling, and Adrianna Sharp. The last that was heard from them was a Snapchat that Sterling sent of him at the beach. It is believed to have been carbon monoxide positioning due to the fact that it was in their condo and you can't smell that gas.

This is a tragic event that is very saddening and is making people fear for their safety while in different territory. In APUSH, we see a strong emphasis on news getting spread fast and on people always knowing what is going on in different countries, like in WWII.

Caroline Carter-Linda Brown of Brown v. Board of Education dies at 76

Linda Brown, the Topeka schoolgirl whose father filed the famous lawsuit against the Topeka Board of Education that became Brown v. Board of Education, died yesterday afternoon. The landmark case officially ruled that separate but equal facilities were officially illegal and unequal. The 1954 court case involved several different families trying to achieve equality for their children.

The case of Brown v. Board marked a turning point in American history and in racial equality. It is a hallmark of the Civil Rights Movement of the 50's and 60's. The case has been important in court rulings against segregation and for the rights of minorities across America. Current issues like the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement are similar to that moment in history. Not only are they both instances of black Americans fighting for equality, but they are both times that will not soon be forgotten and have led to other movements (some better than others). The passing of Linda Brown tells us just how long ago Brown v. Board was and how long black people have been fighting inequality. It is important that we realize this and stand in solidarity with and support with our brothers and sisters in their struggle against the prejudice of the powers that be.

March For Our Lives- Makaria Harris

Demonstrators flooded the streets across the world in public protests on Saturday, calling for action against gun violence.

More than 800 protests were planned in every American state, including in some gun-friendly cities. Planning for the events was taken on by a group of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida who are now national anti-gun figures. In New York, marchers were in bright orange which is the official color of a gun control advocacy group.

As always history repeats itself. Many people are fed up because it continues to happen and no changes are being made. There have been more than 180 shootings on school campuses that resulted in an injury or death in the U.S. since Sandy Hook and that’s because no laws are being changed and it will continue to happen until our government listens and when we get killed in our classes, homes and churches we demand change and we dont stop till we get it.

Like the teenagers of the Civil Rights Movement, the teenagers of today are protesting and changing the world. During the last 3 months, students have been walking out in protest on gun violence. Women ,like Emma Gonzalez, are changing the world with their amazing words of wisdom. It is extremely inspiring to be in a generation with multiple other people who want to make a change.

larsen nichols- "biblical" defense for Trump's affair

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/26/17164268/stormy-daniels-donald-trump-bible-christian

For conservatives and evangelical supporters of Trump, his affair with Stormy Daniels provides somewhat of a query and question of ethics. The story of King David in the Bible has been used by many of these people to defend and justify his case. These people recognize that both King David and Trump are imperfect human beings that committed adultery, but say they can still be chosen to carry out God's perfect work.

This article was written earlier today, March 26th, by Jane Coaston, a Senior Politics Reporter at Vox news. It aims to inform people on how even Trump's worst actions are being defended by his supporters.
In the story of King David (the same David who defeated Goliath), he is a leader beloved by all his subjects and supposedly "chosen by God". Though he was married to several women, he committed adultery with another married woman whose husband was off at war, and she got pregnant. To protect himself, he killed the woman's husband. In consequence, David's son with the woman was killed, and he repented for his sins. And there's the difference: Trump has publicly stated that he should not have to ask forgiveness for his actions when he has done nothing wrong. How people are defending Trump's actions with this story reflects major hypocrisy and I just don't understand it. These are the people that are self-proclaimedly so devoted to God and attached to their morals that they should be doing good in the world, not defending evil. As a non-religious person, I can't speak with lots of experience on this, but in my opinion, nobody who's a true, devoted Christian and follows the principles of the Bible would defend a man who's done as many terrible things as Trump.

Synthesis: This article can be related to the Christian justification of slavery and slaveholding since the 15th century in America. In both cases, people used the Bible to defend actions and practices that were not right and that they should've know weren't right.

Here's Why Some Protesters Wore Price Tags At The March For Our Lives

Many students around the world have been wearing $1.50 price tags to remind everyone that their safety comes with a "price tag". Politicians need to step up and make safety a higher priority. The "price" shouldn't matter. Students have been wearing these price tags during marches, and they have gained the necessary attention. I find it very admiring that people from our generation are doing as much as they can to make a change. I think that these price tags are a great idea. They are subtle yet effective.

Elle Holland Current Event

A 34 year-old man was sent to the hospital due to heating the "hottest pepper in the world. The unidentified man had entered a spicy food eating competition and upon eating the Carolina Reaper pepper he experienced dry heaving and intense headaches. Once he was hospitalized the man he developed excruciating pain in his neck and back. The doctors had a hard time diagnosing him because he exhibited many symptoms similar to a stroke. The pepper had caused his blood vessels to narrow causing all these crazy symptoms.

People should be more careful what they put into their bodies. With everything going on there are so many dangerous ways your body can be effected and eating a spicy pepper should not be one of them. Modern medicine should be focused on serious illnesses no the doings of ignorant people.

Jennifer Huynh - Stormy Daniels describes threat over alleged Trump encounter

SummaryA lawyer representing adult film star Stormy Daniels declined Monday to specify additional evidence he claims he has of Daniels' alleged affair with Donald Trump in 2006, adding "it make no sense for us to play our hand." In the "60 Minutes" interview, Daniels said that she'd been threatened by an unidentified man in Las Vegas to keep quiet about her alleged relationship with Trump, an incident that she said happened while she was with her young daughter. She said in the interview that she had one encounter of consensual sex with the future president. In the interview, the adult film actress provided little new evidence of her alleged 2006 affair with Trump but said she faced intimidation tactics aimed at ensuring her silence in 2011. Daniels said that in the incident, in a parking lot, the man told her: "Leave Trump alone. Forget the story." She said he then looked at her daughter and said, "That's a beautiful little girl. It'd be a shame if something happened to her mom." Daniels received a $130,000 payment days before the 2016 presidential election for her silence and has sought to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement.

Synthesis: This affair is highly similar to a previous presidential scandal involving Bill Clinton and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Despite his repeated proclamations that he did not have sexual relations with her, it eventually came to light that president Bill Clinton did indeed participate in the scandal with Lewinsky. While Lewinsky continues to insist that the relationship was consensual, critics are quick to point out that a man in a position of power seducing an intern around her twenties is not exactly an equal relationship. Another point which goes against Clinton was the fact that he lied about it under oath. Along with that, not all of Clinton’s sexual forays were consensual. Following the Lewinsky spectacle, multiple women came forward with their own allegations against the 42nd president, including accusations of violent rape during one of his gubernatorial campaigns - something that is happening today with our current president and other political figures.

March for Our Lives - Sam Wood

5 weeks ago a gunman killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Florida. They were very quick to take action and made a massive protest in a short amount of time. They engaged with the media and made their cause well known. On Febuary 18, they announced that they would march in Washington DC on March 24th. The march had three demands. The first was to ban assault weapons, the second was to stop the sale of high capacity magazines, and the third was to implement laws that require background checks all gun purchases online and at gun shows. They were successful and on March 24th, across the country major cities protested against gun violence.

I think it is amazing that the students are able to cause so much awareness and bring people to vote. People are comparing them to the college students that protested the Vietnam War.

Feminist Movements: Hannah Karim

2017 was a historic year for women’s empowerment in the United States. First there was the Women’s March for human rights, and then came movements such as Time’s Up and #MeToo, which began in response to a wave of allegations of sexual abuse against men in power, from Hollywood to the White House. And while these movements have dispelled silence, increased solidarity, and brought forth a call for change, many say there is still much work to be done, and that begins with passing legal protections for women.
More than 80% of Americans don’t know women are not guaranteed equal rights in theU.S. Constitution. A proposed amendment, known as the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), has sat dormant for almost 100 years.

Steve King's campaign criticizes Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez//KLARK JOHNSON

A meme was recently posted to Steve King's, Iowa Republican Rep, Facebook account and has since been under fire.  The meme was criticizing a Parkland student for wearing a Cuban flag patch. the meme read"This is how you look when you claim Cuban heritage yet don't speak Spanish and ignore the fact that your ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp, after removing all weapons from its citizens; hence their right to self defense," Along with a picture of the student Emma Gonzalez speaking at the "march for our lives rally"

Brandon Wolf, Orlando Pulse shooting survivor, has taken to the comment section criticizing Steve King and lack of sympathy. The account has since responded with  "Pointing out the irony of someone wearing the flag of a communist country while simultaneously calling for gun control isn't 'picking' on anyone. It's calling attention to the truth, but we understand that lefties find that offensive." The post remains up. I think the post should be taken down and an apology is due.

Hugh's Rocket

For two years, Mike Hughs has been working on a homemade rocket to fly himself into space. this weekend had concluded his project when he had attempted the launch. he didn't really reach space however, only getting about 3 feet in the air before dropping back down, safely, with a parachute. Hughs had been set out to prove that the earth was flat by observing it himself with his rocket. however after the failed attempt and getting a little banged up in the process, he had told a reporter that he was sore, tired, and just wanted to see his cats.

People will go through drastic measures to prove a point. obviously with such an expensive project, he must have gained a significant amount of support to be able to build such rocket. I applaud how he had dealt with the failure of his project.

Jordan Jimenez - Trump and Daniels

Stormy Daniels stated that she had been threatened by an unknown man in Las Vegas to not speak about her alleged relationship with Donald Trump during an interview for "60 Minutes." While some may think this is another "Me too" moment, Daniels has insisted that she isn't a victim and that what they did together was consensual. Her lawyer has said that while they don't have any direct evidence to connect the man to the Trump administration, they believe it's connected just because of common sense. Daniels had also received a $130,000 payment before the 2016 election, but Trump's attorney claimed it wasn't from the administration, but it was out of his own pocket.
This whole situation is kind of messy and hard to completely follow since there's so many contradicting statements from both sides. Regardless, it's still worries me to think about how much people in power are hiding. Even though Daniels isn't claiming she's been assaulted by Trump, it's still crazy to think about all the other people who HAVE been assaulted by him and others in power. Sexual assault allegations are unfortunately not a new thing to see within someone's presidency (ex.Trump, Clinton, etc), and it's really frightening to see the lengths these people will go to keep something a secret.

Brooke Simpson-More States Move to Eliminate 'Tampon Tax'

More States Move to Eliminate ‘Tampon Tax’

No feminine hygiene products are tax free, even though there are many tax exempt items, many that seem to be less important than tampons.  There have been a few states that abolish the “tampon tax” because of gender discrimination.  There are a few states that don’t even have sales taxes, but there are still 36 states, plus DC, that have taxes on pads and tampons.  There are more states pushing to eliminate the tampon tax, but Texas isn’t one of them.  Big states are less likely to give up the tax because of all the money that they make off of the products.  There has been evidence of a “pink tax”, which is an upcharge on products aimed at women, studies found that personal care products can be 13% more expensive for women.

The article was written by Monica Castillo for the Washington Post on March 26, 2018.  Because the article was written by a woman, it could be bias because the tax affects women.  The article is important because it shows that some states are being more equal and less discriminatory, but the country as a whole still has a ways to go.  The article can be compared to women being forced to work in lower level jobs in the 1800s and 1900s when the men got to work in high level jobs and make more money.  Women were discriminated against because of being seen as less capable of intelligence, and now women are being discriminated against because of a natural body cycle.  Women shouldn’t be discriminated against for either of the reasons, even though the state is making more money or women are seen as “inferior” to men.

Trump Signs, Banning Most Transgender People from Military Service -Sam Blumberg

President Trump has signed on a policy banning most transgender people from the U.S. military. This new memo comes after President Trump announced unexpectedly on Twitter that he was banning all transgender people from U.S. military service. Transgender troops have sued the administration over the policy. A Pentagon spokesperson told the Washington Blade late Friday that the military “will still comply with federal court rulings and continue to assess and retain transgender service members.”

Jeson Aviles - L.A. Lawmakers Pledge to Build 222 Units for Homeless Residents in Each District

The Los Angeles City Council's 15 members have all come to the agreement to have until July 1st of 2020 to to finish a total amount of 222 housing units for homeless people in their own districts, and in addition to any other units approved of since last summer. Each district will have an equal amount of housing units to avoid overflowing a corner of the city with homeless individuals. With a Los Angeles voter fund of $1.2 billion in support, a goal to build 10,000 housing units in the next 10 years may also be possible.

Elaborating healthy movements towards eliminating poverty-driven effects on individuals is incredible. Although past presidents, such as Lyndon B. Johnson, have made efforts to combat poverty and failed, it is possible we may succeed.

In collaboration of Good News Network and The Los Angeles Times, the article was published on March 21 of 2018.

Rick Santorum opposes gun control laws- Melanie Escalante

After students across the country participated in the march for our lives protests, GOP Senator Rick Santorum made a very critical comment. He said that rather than fighting for gun control laws, students should focus on their individual safety and prepare for active school shootings. Despite the rebuttals of a few, Santorum stood strongly by his word.
Although I disagree with his opinion, I understand that everyone is entitled to their own. People like W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington used tactics that required other forces to assist the problem. Booker T. Washington wanted to concentrate on economic goals rather than political ones to stop discrimination against African Americans and W.E.B. DuBois supported a strong education to help African Americans achieve equality. Rick Santorum believes that the best way to ensure safety is to actually prepare for the possibility of that situation occurring. Not everyone thinks that dealing head on with the issue is the way to go and not everyone thinks that playing around the issue is the way to go.
I however disagree with Santorum, not just because of the words he said but because of what he meant when he said them. By making such a statement, he told young American students that it is their job to protect themselves, not the country’s. Our country is supposed to ensure the satisfaction and safety of its citizens so to tune out the loud voice that is screaming for help is just wrong. As proven through all those who marched this weekend, people want their children in a protected learning environment and students want to be protected. We can’t keep grazing over the tragedy each time it happens, at some point effort needs to be put forward. It is people like Rick Santorum that are preventing the comfort of many. https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/25/politics/rick-santorum-guns-cnntv/index.html
