London Hibbs- PEDESTRIAN KILLED BY SELF-DRIVING UBER

Sunday night, a self-driving Uber car (with a back up driver behind the wheel),  hit and killed a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona.  This was the first death by a self-driving vehicle and the incident put a stop to driverless car testing in Tempe, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Toranto. The technology is only about ten years old and still has lots of improvements to be made. Companies were reminded of this when 49 year old Elaine Herzberg lost her life while walking with her bike after being hit by a car going 40mph. The weather was clear and the safety driver showed no signs of impairment behind the wheel.

Uber has given their regrets to the family of the victim, and Arizona legislation has since spoken out about why they will continue to press for progress in testing driverless cars.

  1. Self driving vehicles are very dangerous and sometimes can’t determine where the lanes are to drive in, and get in wrecks.

  2. this is horrible! i can't believe they would test cars with unreliable machinery and technology out in the open like this. I hope uber and car makers will take more precautions to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.

  4. I don't think self driving cars are safe due to the fact that it does it on its own. I see it as if you are too lazy to not drive your car then you should just stay home. This Uber business is getting to complicated.

  5. This is why no one legitimately thinks self driving cars will be safe on the road. Technology lags, bugs, corrupts, shuts down. It has human characteristics that we cannot control as humans. Therefore I don’t think they should be driving. Humans are bad enough by themselves.

  6. I just wanna know why you would have a self driving car with a back up driver. That's dumb, as are self driving automobiles
