Emma Lochabay- Hurricane Mathew Now a Category 5

On Friday, September 30, 2016, Hurricane Mathew got more severe as it traveled through the Caribbean and threatened the four countries of Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and Bahamas. By nighttime, Hurricane Mathew became the strongest in the Atlantic since 2007 as a category 5. The National Hurricane Center stated that it is being watched but most land areas are not being affected by it due to it being in the middle of the ocean. They also announced that next week south Florida might be affected but citizens are already prepared. Due to the approaching storm, a few airlines have cancelled their flights and announced travel warnings.

I heard of this threatening hurricane on the news a few days ago so I already had some previous knowledge about it forming and its potential threats. This article was written for everyone but especially for those who may be affected by this serious storm, like southern Florida and other Caribbean islands. This article is important because it is informing others of the potential dangers it may have and people could potentially become in danger if they were not aware of the severe storm. This event relates to Hurricane Hazel that occurred in 1954. They are similar because the track that Mathew is taking, which is north and towards the United States coast, is almost identical to that of Hazel's.

Ava Noble: Hoboken Train Crash Leaves at Least One Dead and Dozens Injured

WEEK OF OCTOBER 3RD BLOG: Ava Noble

Summary:
On Thursday morning at around 8:45am during one of the busiest times of the morning, a commuter train in Hoboken, New Jersey killed one person and injured about 108 people. The train smashed through barriers that were supposed to save the train from crashing, but because it was traveling at such a high speed, it was eventually stopped by a wall in the Hoboken Terminal building. The train came from Spring Valley, New Jersey. The one person that was killed died by falling remnants of the crash when they were standing on the platform. People rushed to pull the passengers of the train out of it when it crashed; Michael Larson was in the building when it happened. Witnesses explained wires were everywhere, the roof had sunken in, seats were in horrible condition, and the first car of passengers was the most destroyed. The station this occurred at is near the Hudson River, and it is a very popular station for commuters from all directions. Every weekday, about 15,000 passengers board at this station. Passengers described that the train wobbled before it hit the wall. This horrible tragedy is an event that will always be remembered.

Analysis/Synthesis:
Prior to reading this article, I had not heard about the train crash. After talking to friends, I learned it had been all over the news, and I had not seen it yet. This is not the first time I have heard about a deadly train crash. Every few years, I hear of events similar to this. Being a kid that takes the train twice a week, this makes me worried about my safety. I have learned from this article to start sitting further back on the train to reduce the amount of impact I would receive if an accident happened head on. I can synthesize this event to another train accident that happened in 2011 involving the PATH train station at Hoboken. Although that accident only injured 30 people, I would have hoped they would have fixed train accident issues by then. It was interesting to me that all articles about this accident did not have a lot of information on the cause of the crash. I hope that this article will teach others to be safe and aware when riding public transportation. It makes me upset that the passengers could do absolutely nothing in the time of the crash to ensure safety. I am praying engineers invent a safer way to promise a more safe travel when riding the train.

Stephanie Toribio- Protests Begin After Man is Fatally Shot by Police

On Tuesday afternoon, El Cajon police shot and killed 38 year old Alfred Okwera because they thought he was pointing a gun at them, but was in reality holding an e-cigarette. Police received a call allegedly from his sister, saying that he wasn't "acting like himself" and that he was unarmed. She also mentioned that her brother was mentally ill. Police have yet to confirm whether or not it was actually his sister as she was being uncooperative. When police arrived at the scene, they repeatedly ordered Okwera to take his hands out of his pockets, and when he failed to do so, one aimed a taser at him. Okwera "rapidly drew an object" and was shot around five times. The two officers believed he aimed a gun at them, but was in reality holding an e-cigarette.

Protesters began shouting "Black Lives Matter" and threw water bottles at police, demanding the police department release the video of what really happened.

Analysis:
Well would you look at that, yet another fatal shooting of an unarmed black man. Alfred's sister clearly stated that he had a mental illness and that he was unarmed, but they shot him anyway. Let's see, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past what, six months(??), there have been at least five police shootings, two of them within a week. All of the victims were unarmed, one of them was shot in front of his child, but nothing was done, just protest after protest. When will this end?? How many more innocent people have to die before something is done?? How can the government just sit around and not do anything about this?? It's a serious issue, and I've had enough.

Olivia Moretta- South Carolina School Shooting

In Townville, South Carolina, two children and a teacher were shot at an elementary school playground. None of the three victims were injured fatally, although the father of the suspected shooter was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home less than two miles from the school. The victims had no direct relation to the shooter, and terrorism has been ruled out as a possible motive. The shooter is now being held in custody until further notice.

These types of shootings, specifically at schools, have become more and more prevalent in the news in the past two decades. Since the Columbine High School Massacre in 1999, said to be the deadliest high school shooting in history, the news has been filled with similar events. Sandy Hook and Virginia Tech were two other shootings that moved the country. Regardless of the fact that these incidences vary in their number of victims and location, they all have the common thread that carries much gravity and reverence in our society today; the upsetting truth that any school could fall victim to the same horrors.

Two Children and One Teacher Wounded After School Shooting:

On Wednesday, September 28th, there was a shooting at an elementary school in Townsville, Tennessee. Two children and one teacher were shot in the school's playground. One boy was shot in the foot, and another in the leg and the teacher took a shot to the shoulder. The shooting suspect is a teenage boy who is now being held in custody. The boy's father has been found 2 miles away from the school, dead from a gunshot. However, the shooter never went inside of the elementary school, he just stayed outside in the playground. A volunteer firefighter contained him until the authorities arrived at the scene. The children and the teacher are recovering at their local hospital.

Analysis:

I think that this shooting is terrible. The fact that the shooter never went inside of the school suggests that maybe either he didn't make it inside, or was scared he was going to be trapped and caught, even though he is now being tried for his actions. And I think that their suspect is guilty because his father was found dead in their home 2 miles away from the school. Gun violence needs to be contained and guns shouldn't be given out to just anybody who wants one. This way, if we are careful, we can decrease the amount of shootings. Even though the shooter's motive are considered unknown, I think that he was on drugs or had a connection to the school he shot at. I don't understand how and why people would even consider hurting and potentially killing another human being and get away with their crimes. If this suspect is found guilty, I think he should serve at least 20 years in prison.

Audrey Gavitt- Charlotte shooting

Summery-

A week after 43 year old Keith Scott was shot by police in Charlotte North Carolina the first city council meeting was held. The hall was filled with protesters who have been protesting all week and want the be herd by the police and the mayor. A young girl named Zianna Oliphant spoke with tears streaming down her face she said, "It's a shame that our fathers and mothers are killed and we can't see them anymore,".

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/27/us/charlotte-girl-city-council-meeting/

Analysis-

This article was written by Madison Park on September 27 and it was published by CNN. It is truly horrible that we see and hear these kind of things happen everyday, it seems nothing is getting better. When a child is crying about dead parents and still nothing changes, something is wrong. It took almost a week for the police to release the body cam videos of the shooting, and even after they were released to the public something didn't seem right. It feels like every week there is another police shooting, there are more and more protests and more lives lost. A child should not have to cry for something to change.

Obama's veto might be overriden - Katie Schuldenberg

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, the Senate will vote whether or not to override President Obama's veto of the bill that gives 9/11 victims the right to sue Saudi Arabia for their part in the tragedy. Obama's reasoning for the veto was fairly clear; if we were to sue Saudi Arabia, they are most likely to retaliate with related lawsuits concerning decisions made by military officials and the drone attacks in Pakistan following 9/11.

Those affected in the terrorist attack are continually seeking justice and closure for the traumatic losses they suffered and have come to the conclusion that the lawsuits would help in doing so. Though he has shown immense empathy for the victims, the President finds the possible situations too problematic to proceed in that direction. Some would argue that those involved have a major emotional bias on the situation, which is rightly so, though it may lead some to not thoroughly address every aspect of the situation. The 9/11 tribulation has caused unbelievable suffering throughout our country and should never be forgotten, though accepting what has occurred and learning from the situation would reap more benefits than bringing it to court.

Saudi women file petition to end male guardianship system -Austin Wallace

Saudi Arabian women are petitioning to change long standing and sexist laws in their country. Known as guardian ship laws, women in Saudi Arabia are being treated like children, requiring a guardian. These mandates prohibit them from things like driving, or traveling without the consent of their husband, fathers, or even their own sons. This movement is quickly growing with some men even lending their support. Women is Saudi Arabia are tired of being treated as second class citizens and have created the "I am my Own Guardian" campaign to make their government listen. The rate at which this movement is an unprecedented development for women's rights in the region. It is time the Saudi Arabian government begins treating them as adults. This historic campaign for the feminist movement reminds my of women's suffrage in the late 19th century. While many women signed the petition anonymously, out of fear for their own wellbeing, some women have chosen to list their names. "Why should I be afraid" one Saudi women said, "I'm not doing anything wrong".

David Allen Norton- Responses to shootings.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/candidates-show-different-responses-to-recent-police-shootings/

Summary:  Both candidates have reacted very differently towards the recent police shootings. Trump was very wishy-washy with his responses, once being choked at the thought and now wanting to reinstate stop and frisk. Hillary on the other hand, has still been very adamant on her views of the shootings.

Analysis/Synthesis: I am still very quiet when it comes to police shootings. It's a very touchy subject but I am incredibly against these shootings. In my eye's this is just like the different views on the cruel treatment of the natives by the Spanish. Many were for it but others were disgusted by how they were treated.

Donald v Hilary: Scandals

This weekend on This week tonight with John Oliver, they took a very in depth look at Donald and Hilary's scandals. While Hilary has her share, Donald was found to have so many ridiculous scandals from his days of walking the fine line between legal and illegal business deals. This show segment acted as a jury for the scandals of each and honestly is did better than every hearing for either one combined.

When your entire campaign deals with your ability to do business it really should cut you down to have such a corrupt and cheap way of financial dealings. A big issue of this election is that Donald has such low standards at this point he can get away with anything whilst Hilary is hated and booed for an, in-comparison , minor scandal. The entire campaign could be summed up as a lose lose situation but really not trump is a win. Hilary is a competent leader while Donald is purely their for financial gain. He won't even turn over his company to a blind leader while he's in office. He is probably the most unprofessional presidential candidate ever.

Emily Anderson- Snowden movie

Recently, a new movie came out on the story of Edward Snowden. (Snowden was a whistleblower who stole a bunch of files illegally from the government a couple years ago to show the public that they were being spied on.) Oliver Stone, the director of the movie, talks about how important it is that this story be told because as American citizens we are being violated of our privacy. Morally, we should have a right to know that people are watching us. To better understand Snowden's "patriotism," Gordon-Levitt, the film-maker, traveled to Russia (where Snowden currently resides) to talk to him. There, he learned Snowden did this illegal act on the basis of early America where freedom was most important. In addition, he learned that Edward Snowden hopes to return to America one day and be pardoned of his "crime."
Only a few years ago, did Snowden release these files. This shows how especially relevant it still is today. Although the story was well-known already, I think this movie helped people better understand what it's like from the inside of the government. I saw the Snowden movie this past weekend, and it really made me think about the importance of freedom and safety. That's why this topic is so controversial today throughout the U.S. and all over the world. This article relates to the Patriots wanting freedom of religion, press, and speech instead of staying with Britain. They chose to start all over to make sure they had these basic human rights just like why Snowden stole documents to release to the public. He wanted to let them know that they didn't have these rights completely anymore. We are no longer given the freedom of privacy according to many whistle blowers of the United States. More recently than the Patriots, is another whistlerblower by the name of Bill Binney. A week after 9/11, Binney quit his job at the NSA and tried to tell the people about what the government was doing. Of course, he did not steal, so he did not have formal documents proving this true. No one believed him until Snowden stole documents that did in fact prove that the government spied on everyone.

FBI annual crime report shows rise in violent crime by Caitlin King

According to FBI data, violent crimes are up 3.9% and murder is up a whooping 10.8%. The trend is most prominent in big cities such as Chicago, Baltimore, and Washington. Surprisingly enough, New York and Los angeles haven't experienced these current rates. The FBI is taking an interest in these higher crime rates, as is the Attorney General. These rates are expected to play quite a role in the presidential election.

I found this article interesting because I think throughout the year we all thought that there seemed to be more crime happening in the states than usual, and here are the statistics to prove it! This article was written by Evan Perez and Tom Kludt on September 26th, 2016. This article is current and describes the crime rates according to the FBI and how they might effect upcoming events. I think these statistics also call for a change. If we keep up at our current pace, what will the murder rates be next year? How many police shootings will we've had by then? Something drastic needs to happen in order to correct our downward spiral into mutiny.

Larissa Perez: Trump: We have to take the guns away from 'bad people'

SUMMARY: According to Trump he wants to take guns away from criminals and violent people. He says that there are gangs with illegal immigrants and are shooting people. He claims that there needs to be law and order and with that it will bring down violence. He uses Chicago a lot of an example of a place where a lot of violence is held. He also says "He went before a judge who was very against-police judge." it was said that it was taken away from the judge and the mayor and didn't go forward with a certain investigation. His argument is that we need to take guns away from violent criminals also because they are felons.
ANALYSIS: This article was published on September 26, 2016 by Daniella Diaz. I think he has a point on taking guns away from the criminals. However I think that they won't have enough time to go and get everyone who is a criminal and take away their guns. Hillary however does agree with Trump on this point.

Jay'La Sims - Civil rights museum denies Trump visit request

SUMMARY: Greensboro , N.C. Civil rights museum has rejected Donald Trumps request to visit. They declined his visit because of the campaigns list of demands. "We did not honor the request of the Donald Trump team because we thought they demonstrated, in their approach was disrespectful, so therefore we did not grant that request," said the co-founder of the museum. Jones said the campaign was rude and aggressive to staff. The campaign also asked for the museum to be closed for 5 hours. Jones said he didn't like the approach and that the museum doesn't do special treatment. He states that their manner was innapropriate and reflective of the civil rights movement. Jones said he would deny Hillary Clinton also. The museum isn't going to be used for political gain.

ANALYSIS: This article was written by Jessie Hellmann. Jessie studies journalism and political science. This brings awareness to the civil rights museum and what a candidate is trying to do.I agree with the museums actions. This museum is to learn about civil rights and to educate people. It isn't a place for future candidates to get photo opportunity. I am not shocked that Trumps campaign came off as aggressive either. I'm glad the museum doesn't allow special treatment and uses the museum for what it should be. This can connect to the Civil Rights movement and what political leaders had to do to solve issues.

Leslie Z-Murders ,rapes and assaults rise in U.S. ,says FBI report.

Based on the last year  statistics, violent crimes have increased  according to the FBI . In 2015  there were about 1,197,704 violent crimes ,  3.9%  more than the previous year. The  violent crimes are even lower than they were in the  1900s , but not everything is so sweet, the number of murders and on negligent manslaughter have augmented  by 10.8% most in which they were persecuted by a gun.The report also showed that most incidents were concentrated in the South of the U.S ,in where the most segregated and poor neighborhood are  located.

The article written by the BCC news informs  people about the facts  in the  percentage of the violent crimes of America. At the end, the author of the article,  points out that the released data would be used to support some of the deals of the presidential candidates. It could help Donald Trump stop-and-frisk tactics  and supports Clinton's ideal for a more strict gun policies and the improvement in the police officers guidelines .I'm not surprised that after all that  has happened with the shootings like those in Orlando ,the  number of murder cases has increased. There's no way to denied that , the  purchasing of  a gun is definitely part of the factor for this kind of crimes.

Deadly Shootings and Carjacking in Cedar Hill - C.J. Moore 8th Period

The link below depicts the events of the night of September 25, 2016. A man, who still has yet to be found, went on a spree of shootings and carjackings in and around Cedar Hill, Texas. The man managed to kill two people and injure one person. Many others were shot at but, luckily were not hit.

As with any shooting, the issue of our second amendment right becomes the main topic of discussion. Our second amendment right states that,"...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." As of late gun laws have become more strict but some are still completely against it.

Personally, with public shootings getting closer to home with cases such as the one in Downtown, Dallas and now this one, it is hard for me to continue to support the ease of buying a gun these days. Although it must have been said thousands of times, I believe that we must find a way to regulate the selling of guns, without making them unattainable.

Kobe Williams (1st Period) - No More Police Footage

Word has recently been going around saying that the footage of the North Carolina shooting might be the last time police footage will be released to the public. This is because of a new law that's goes into effect on October 1. This law was passed to block the public from be able to obtain footage from body cameras or dashboards, in order to balance "public trust" with the rights and safety of police officers.

Although I understand that certain videos of things that's happened most likely do not show both sides of the situation or the whole story, I still think it's best that people have some kind of explanation for significant events. Or else a new or wrong explanation could be made up and create a much worse effect. Though I'm still very curious as to the full reasoning and debates behind the creation of this new law.

Katie Haidet - University of Illinois shooting

Summary: On an early Sunday morning, one man was killed and four other people were wounded in a pair of shootings, including the campus of the University of Illinois. Police seem to think that the two shootings are related. At a campus party, as a fight escalated, shots were fired, striking four people. It is unclear how many attended the party because everyone ran immediately after the gun shots were fired. 22-year-old George Korchev, was killed, but was not involved in the fight and wasn't a University of Illinois student he just happened to be walking by when the shots were fired. The victims were taken to the hospital and later stated by the police that three of the surviving victims were discharged from the hospital, and the fourth victims suffering life threatening injuries. It was unclear how many attended the party and

Analysis: This article by ABC News, written by David Mercer, published on September 25, 2016. This article is relatable to most families with a family member in college, reminding people that anything can happen to anyone. Although it does not state that alcohol was a factor in the fight/shooting, being under the influence can make you do regretful things. This is related to the college shootings at Wichita State University in the parking lot killing 1 person.

Hayley Cagle, Black America is beyond the breaking point

Summary: The pattern of black men being wrongfully murdered continues. Black Americans are at their breaking point. Black parents are sick and tired of stressing over the safety of their children and black men are sick and tired of being stereotyped as criminals and thugs. This issue is not a sparatic outburst, but instead an increase in the uprising of African-Americans fighting for justice.

Analysis: This article is explaining how the black community is fed up with being targeted. They wish for justice because all they have been met with is a slap in the face by white privilege. Black people are being incarcerated for petty crimes while white people can get off with a warning. Black men are being portrayed and stereotyped as thugs because of the way they look. When an innocent black man is killed by police, the first thing the media does is scramble to find any previous convictions. The police officers is put on paid leave and not rightfully punished. Do you understand now why Black America is on the last straw? In order to heal, they need to be able to trust and believe in the police force instead of fearing for their lives when they see them. They are ready to fight for what they believe in because the Civil Rights Movement never ended, it simply moved on to the next generation.

Madelyn Dean - Presidential Debate: Here's What You Missed

The New York Times wrote a recap of the presidential debate tonight highlighting the behavior and "stamina" of both candidates. Donald Trump stated Hillary didn't have the look for presidency, however transformed that into the stamina she lacked. Hillary backfired saying that when you've done as much as i have then we'll talk about stamina. There were the general accusations about Trumps tax returns and the thought of him having nuclear control. To conclude, Trump's rude behavior with constant interruptions, contradictions, and outright lies only begin to show what our world  would become.

The overall conclusion from the debate is that neither side has gained. Hillary may have proven herself in the debate, however  even though Trump has proven himself as a fumbling, inconsistent, incoherent idiot his audience seems unmoved; for that is what is expected. World wide millions of people viewed this debate, not only because of the effects of the outcome, but also because that this is such an entertaining joke to people. This can relate to the American Revolution because of the different political views among the colonies creating them  separate and less powerful as a union against Britain.

"Houston's Gunman's Rampage Ends With Suspect Dead" - Leah Nowell -8th

9/26/16

Summary: A Houston lawyer on a shooting rampage wounded nine people Monday before he was fatally shot by police officers responding to the chaotic scene. Acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo said one victim was critically wounded and five others required hospitalization after the man opened fire at passing cars near the area of Southwest Houston. Montalvo said officers responded to 911 calls of a shooter in the neighborhood and quickly became the suspect's target. Officers returned fire, and it appeared the suspect was killed by an officer's bullet. She said police found numerous weapons at the scene. The suspect's Porsche was scrutinized by a bomb-squad robot, and she said the man's home was also thoroughly searched. Residents of a local condominium building were asked to shelter in place for several hours while the investigation was active.

Analysis: I don't believe anyone deserves to die. But he deserved to be punished and as brutal as it sounds, we have one less dangerous person in the world. I have mixed emotions about the topic and my thoughts. This also correlates to 1934 to 1945 when Adolf Hitler oversaw the facist policies and that led multiple and many deaths. We're having so many tragic shootings that hurting us all as a community and it's so very disappointing.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Education

In topics about almost all significant cases, both Clinton and Trump have a bit of the same views but when it comes to the amount, it differs. They can have some completely opposite views, but upon this article's understanding of education, they both believe that the unprivileged people who do not have the requirements to attend school should be treated equally among everyone.
Hillary obviously believes that the kids are the nation's future. When referring to Trump's idea of giving huge amounts money to poor and in-need children, Hillary is surprisingly, not for it as he is. She believes that the amount of public schools for these kids will decrease, thus limiting the amount of schools for any kid in general.

Education has always been a major issue throughout history. It started with schools for only white men lacking the crucial role of schools for African Americans and even woman. Schools were for only the important way back then. Several laws and acts played on this, and to know that this issue still occurs after many years, is upsetting. Everyone should be allowed to have an education; It is an important factor in living life.

Mollie Hamman - Saudi Guardianship Petition

In Saudi Arabia women are not treated as equal citizens. One example of this is the way men have power over what they do. If they are getting a passport, exiting the country or trying to marry, they have to have male approval. Recently a hashtag has emerged on Twitter which translates to "Saudi women want to abolish the Guardianship system." Many Saudi woman have signed this petition anonymously and and some gave their real names.

This is not just and reflects the inequalities of life before the 19th amendment was passed allowing women the right to vote.

The revolt against having men be in charge of women's rights is on the right track to getting equality in place in their government.

Anecia Forbes: FBI data: Violent crime up in 2015 vs 2014, still down from 5 years ago

Summary: In the last year there has been an increase in violent crimes in the US (including murder) compared to in 2014, according to new data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday. The records show an estimated 1,197,704 violent crimes, up 3.9% from 2014, while the murder rate spiked by 10.8% over the same span. These crimes include things such as"murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault," the FBI's website states.
But the report indicated that violent crime is still below 2006 and 2011 levels for 10-year and five-year comparisons. The statistics are somewhat expected, reflecting both anecdotal and statistical evidence of an increase in violence since last October. That trend has been visible in several large cities, such as Chicago, Baltimore and Washington. Other major cities such as New York and Los Angeles have not experienced the same. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said the data shows "we still have so much work to do," but stressed the overall numbers are down compared to several years ago.
"Violent crime tears at the fabric of our common life -- and so any increase in violent crime is of the deepest concern to me as Attorney General and to the entire Department of Justice," Lynch said.
The findings are part of the FBI's annual crime data report, which is released around the same time every year. A similar trend of increasing violent, concentrated in some cities, appears to have continued into 2016. Data from the largest US cities for the first half of the year shows continued increase in violence also.

Analysis/Synthesis: The violence rate in America is absolutely appalling. I would think as years go by we would fix a situation such as this but the exact opposite is happening violence is increasing. If violence such as these keep increasing imagine how traumatized and demolished our country will be. Violent crimes is a situation that needs to be dealt with immediately.

Izzy Brown- Several Newspapers Call Donald Trump a Liar

Summary: Leading up to the big debate, several newspapers have called Donald Trump a liar. They say he lies even more than Hillary Clinton. This is a big surprise because it can shape the way people will think of the candidates. Although all publishing's were coincidence there was a hustle to get them published before Monday night's debate. This time around it is not up to the monitor of the debate to correct the candidates on true or false statements, they have to do that themselves and each other. The debate commission chef wants them to fact check each other. Donald Trump's statements were analyzed for five days and the amount of inaccuracy and mishandling of facts completely eclipse the amount Hillary has done.

Analysis/Synthesis: Because of the debate this Monday the fact that several News publishers have written about Donald Trump and how he's a known liar is very important. The fact that he was even analyzed for how much he has mishandled facts says a lot about his tendencies too. This will make people really think about who they're going to choose as their next president, and as someone who can only watch from the sidelines that's very scary. Another person infamous for lying is Bill Clinton. He lied about the affair he was having and only til later did he admit it. It's very possible to prevent from having another prone liar in the office, but it's very difficult to convince people once they're set on one candidate.

Elizabeth McCullough- EpiPen Prices Lead Some People to Make Their Own

Summary: The rise of the pricing of EpiPens has been a subject of major controversy for several weeks now. These life saving devices that once cost $94 in 2007, now upwards of $600. With a large percentage of people in the U.S. having serious food and environmental allergies, these medical tools can be vital to keeping people alive. Desperate people who cannot afford to buy these absolute necessities will do anything to keep themselves and their love ones alive, including making their own EpiPens at home. A highly intelligent group of hackers known as the Four Thieves Vinegar Collective, which fights to make important medical drugs and devices available to those who need them, have even released a video on how to make your own epinephrine ejecting devices at home. These tools are being called "EpiPencils", and can be made only costing about $35. This option is becoming very attractive to those who simply do not have the money to buy the materials needed to keep them alive.

Analysis: The making of these EpiPencils is not only just, but also completely legal if you have a prescription for epinephrine. The only problem with them, is that devices made at home and not approved by the FDA has its risks. Though there have been no serious issues reported by people who have used these make-shift EpiPens, there is a chance people could develop infection or other complications. That is why these crucial resources need to be made accessible to the people who need them.

Synthesis: These acts can be synthesized to the decisions made by colonists when taxes like the Stamp Act or the Tea Act were passed. When prices for necessary material became to expensive, the people resorted to unconventional methods such as smuggling to get their goods.

Anna Wehrmann-Egypt's president calls for unity after migrant boat tragedy

About 11 miles off the Egyptian shore, a boat that was leaving for western Europe sank, killing at least 190 people, mostly single men in their 20s, searching for a new job and life in Europe after the 2011 rising, which killed the economy. The Egyptian president says that this is a terrible tragedy, and the people of Egypt need to come together and restore the economy so those that want to leave don't have to, since their own economy is good enough. He also said "Don't leave your country and go, you can develop it if you will just join hands with us."

This is a terrible thing to happen to Egypt, but what the president says is true. The solution is not to just leave, because that will dump more work on those who stay. it seems that his suggestions make a lot of sense, as the most tried and true way to improve an economy is to create more jobs, and you need people to have jobs.

Police: 14-year-old accidentally shoots self in head in Gwinnett County Maggie Gibson

Today, September 26, in Norcross, Gwinnett County, a fourteen year old boy and his friend were playing with a stolen handgun at home with two adults and four children in the house at the time. The handgun somehow discharged and shot him in the head, injuring him greatly. Detectives still haven't determined the exact source of the weapon, or how the kids got their hands on it. The author points out how this case exemplifies the dangers of letting children play with handguns.

I find this case extremely saddening and a call for immediate action by politicians and the government. The author points out the dangers of letting children play with guns, and seems to be spreading and educating the values of gun control, or even just stricter enforcement of gun control laws that are in place now. Though the Second Amendment plays a large part in our history and our road to freedom, I do not think it safe to allow guns to be traded freely, and that the government should regulate them to guarantee the safety of its citizens, and to prevent another tragedy like the one presented here. This is similar to how the English forced the colonists to quarter troops for their own good, despite the invasion of privacy and anger caused by this move.

Summary

The US military said on Saturday a coalition airstrike may have struck Syrian soldiers, but the coalition never intentionally targets regime troops.  A statement from US Central Command said the coalition conferred with the Russian military before the airstrike.  "The coalition airstrike was halted immediately when coalition officials were informed by Russian officials that it was possible the personnel and vehicles targeted were part of the Syrian military," CENTCOM said.  The Russian Ministry of Defense said ISIS militants launcehed an attack on Syrian position after the airstrikes, Sputnik reported.  The report comes during a fragile ceasefire.  However, it doesn not cover militant groups considered terrorists, such as ISIS and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as al Nusra Front.  The ceasefire has offered some respite from violence in the civil war that has killed an estimated 430,000 people since 2011 and touched off an international refugee crisis.  There has, however, been reports of violations and Russia has stated the United States is not fulfilling its obligations.

Analysis

This is a developing story with more to come being published online at CNN.com by Steve Almasy.  The arthuor of this current event starts this article with just a matter of fact point of view.  The original story was published today at 3:34 p.m. ET and as more information comes in, he continues to update the event.  Before getting the breaking news report on my phone, I had knew nothing about this event or the author.  From the audience point of view, it is written slightly negative to me.  While I am no supporter of Russia, the arthuor sort of places the blame on Russia.  However, I do think the significance of the article was to inform readers that the US military never intentionally targets regime troops and to point out that Russia, once again, feels that the United States is not fulfilling its obligations on the ceasefire.

Anna Czyzewski - Violent Crime Rate Rises

Summary: When new data describing the crime rates of 2015 was released recently, alarming information hit the public. Compared to 2014, violent crimes have gone up 3.9% and the murder rate 10.8%. Although this was to be expected with the rise of violence in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington. As if to give solace to us, the FBI has stressed that the rates are still below 2006 and 2011. Unfortunately, data from the first six months of 2016 shows increasing violence in several large cities.

Analysis: Published on the same day as the first presidential debate between Clinton and Trump, this article stresses the severity of violent crimes and the fact that they're such a commonplace in our lives today. No doubt the violence brought upon the black community by the police force has affected the rate quite a bit. So, with every era of chaos and upheaval, it is only to be expected to have somewhat large differences in data and crime rates, although that's not good at all. Just like during the beginning of the American Revolution, devoid of any "real" war, violence erupted and slowly led to freedom.

Maddie gold- Houston shooting

Attorney Nathan DeSai has been Identified as the shooter of the mass shooting in Houston at West university place at 6:30am. More than 75 rounds were expended in gunfight; gunman had Nazi emblems with him. Police said one victim was critically wounded and another was seriously wounded.

Though it may have had nothing to do with the act...the nazi emblems relate to Adolf Hitler,  the leader of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945. He initiated World War II and oversaw fascist policies that resulted in millions of deaths. Shootings have become to common nowadays and I find it tragic because of this.

Anna Wehrmann-Austrian Customs Finds something in womans luggage

The Austrian customs has found some weird things in luggage, but human intestines weren't something even they saw. A Moroccan woman was going through customs when they found human organs and intestines packed in formaldehyde in her suitcase. She says that they are her husbands, and she was bringing them because she believed he had been poisoned. A pathologist confirmed that this could have been the case, but there have been no concrete results yet.

This does sound plausible, and i believe her. I don't know why she would think someone would poison her husband, but it does sound like she truly thinks that it wasn't just an internal blockage. I also think its kind of ridiculous to take your husbands innards to another country; doesn't she realize that its inevitable that she would be stopped? It doesn't sound very well thought out, but because of that quality, it makes it more believable. After all, she would be mourning the death of her husband, who she thinks has been poisoned.

A car for women? Cosmopolitan and SEAT under fire for new vehicle

This article was written by Zahra Jamshed, a CNN worker, and she specifically says on her Twitter that "all views expressed are (her) own". This means that some of her articles can be baised in some way. This article was written on Monday, September 26, 2016. This makes that article current and up to date. Before reading this article I have seen other brands making items specifically for women. This irritates me the fact that a brand feels the need to stereotype women and change us double for the same thing that they are giving to men. I know tooth paste brand have done it and now cars. This article was written towards feminists and uninformed people. This has a positive effect the audience by starting a fire between to women's rights supporters. This article was written to inform civilians and feminists of another brand stereotype women in a product that they release. You can conclude from the article that even though women have come a long way we still have improvement to make. This is similar to Colgate releasing a max white toothpaste for men. It is in a red box, another stereotype, and is very similar to this car for women. Throughout history women have been stereotyped to do the chores and stay at home and you would think that by now those thoughts would be gone however stereotypes continue to thrive.

Seanelle Higgins: Multistate E. Coli Outbreak

A multistate E. coli outbreak  happened in the states of Massachusetts, West Virginia, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Although only a total of seven people were infected with a dangerous strain of E. coli, this has caused widespread panic in the area. Meat throughout those states have been recalled and the meat has been traced to the Adams Farm Slaughterhouse in Athol, Massachusetts. Despite the widespread panic, this company refuses to let this bring them down. They have been resenting and desputing all possible claims that they are irresponsible and claim to have traced the E. Coli back to a collection of meat from exactly two days. When asked to recall the product from a seven week period, the company called it "unjustified and unrealistic" . The conpany doesn't seem to be too worried, though. Not reacalling the meat enables anyone who contracted E. Coli from the unrecalled product can sue. E. Coli is very dangerous in some situations varying from nausea to death.

Analysis: I hope that this company chooses to recall their meat. I would hate for a small child with a weak immune system to contract E. Coli and have organ failure. I do think it's wrong for the company to just brush it off like the incident was nothing. Refusing to recall their product can put a lot of people in danger.

Synthesis:  This reminds me a lot of the Puritans who were like the citizens and Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams who were banished because they were tarnishing Puritan values. They  obviously did not think much of it just like the company, but to the citizens, or Puritans, just a small amount of their way of life could be detrimental. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/26/health/e-coli-beef-recall-adams-farm/

Jordyn Chapman- Student suspended after she takes photo of school's dirty water

Summary:
Hazel Juco, a student (senior) at John Glenn High School in Westland, Michigan was suspended when she took a picture of her bathroom water as it looked like "urine." She states that they called her to the office the next day and had a three day suspension for "inappropriate use of electronics." Regardless of the no cell phone policy, both parents and students were outraged because the school was disregarding the importance of the dirty water. As a response, students posted pictures of themselves in the bathrooms at school. The superintendent figured out about this and ended up expunging Hazel's suspension and reached out to the school to get the water fixed.

Analysis:
Rolando Zenteno, a reporter studying at Armstrong University, posted on CNN and wrote this article on September 26, 2016. His point of view was mostly unbiased, but had information leading towards Hazel's side of the story. Prior to this article, I knew about cell phone polices and restrictions in school, but nothing of Hazel Juco's story, which gives me a different look on the Michigan school district. This article was written for the parents, teachers, and students in school. The influence is positive and was written to make them want to be aware in their own schools about things like this situation. It's trying to convey the point that action should be taken over problems in the school rather than the cell phone. It's significance runs directly in hand to this fact, emphasizing the effect of certain policies being prioritized.

Synthesis:
This can be connected to the beginning of awareness of freedom of press with the Zenger Trial. John Peter Zenger printed a publication called the New York Weekly Journal and was tried by a jury in effect much like the girl who posted the picture and was suspended. Both ended in awareness of th subject making a step closer to change: freedom of speech and the press in the colonies, and the fixing of the water at John Glenn High school.

Make America Meme Again - Cal Thompson, 1st period

This article begins by explaining that nerds are often the underdog. In movies this is resolved through jolly pranking, but, the article explains, in the real world conflicts of social hierarchy and societal exclusion lead to serious consequences (including violence). In some cases, however, revenge is gotten by those formerly ostracized (such as now wealthy people classified as nerds) through strategic funding of organizations. One near-billionare, Palmer Luckey, funded a website devoted to Trump-related memes (it appears to have been created un-ironically). This has been viewed as a sort of vengeful trolling. The article does not clearly state wether or not Luckey sincerely supports Trump as more than a way of rebellion, and his support is referred to as "trolling" and "deliberate meme farming." The article also explains that most tech companies and supporters are striving to abolish current politics in favor of a "technocracy," which somewhat overshadows Luckey's support of Trump, and implies that Luckey's support is intended to troll and show his own power rather than to actually aid Trump.

I still cannot believe that this is an actual article. I myself am what one would call a "nerd," although I steer clear of the online gaming/technology-based community due to the cocky, often rude attitude of those who frequent message boards and threads there. To be willing to support Trump simply to make a statement about one's own power (as well as "for the lulz") is a bit much. Troll all you want, but maybe not in a way that could gain votes for Trump. (I highly recommend you visit the site that Luckey funded, though - there's a link in the article. I was greeted by a parody of the "Jaws" poster that I cannot believe was intended as serious Trump propaganda - but there ya go. 'Merica.) I strongly believe that there are better uses for one's disposable fortune than trolling in such a manner as this. Today's world is going on an odd track, and had you told me of this article being published with apparently serious intentions prior to my actually finding it, I would have laughed, giggled hysterically, and continued to mutter "for the lulz" every ten minutes for the next three hours.

This happening relates to oddly-motivated sponsorship throughout history, including product placement found in popular shows and movies. Luckey is using his sponsorship to feel accomplished rather than to rake in profits, but the result is the same. One party funds another to receive attention (be that attention politically, economically, or socially structured).

Lila Ingrum - How Small Forests Can Help Save the Planet

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/27/science/private-forests-global-warming.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fus&action=click&contentCollection=us&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=15&pgtype=sectionfront

More than half of the United States' forests are privately owned plots, may of which are 1000 acres or less. Trees are the number one way for carbon to be removed from the atmosphere. Many of those small forest owners turn to logging for a source of income, but there is a way that is much better for the environment, gaining popularity. Its is where the forest is evaluated for its potential carbon intake and that is turned into credits. Those credits are then sold to large companies to offset their carbon footprint.

This article was published on September 26, 2016 by Erica Goode. Goode seemed to be very supportive of this relatively new system. It allows both the forest owner and the large buisnesses to benefit. Prior to reading this article, I had no idea it was possible to do this, although I did know about how important trees are to our planet. I believe that the purpose of this article was to inform more people about this because not a lot of people know about it yet. This event can relate back to the Industrial revolution because that was the main start of significant carbon emissions.

gray breidenbach: wells fargo fine

September 8 Wells Fargo got smacked with a 190 million dollar fine for pushing customer intoa fee generating account that they did not request. Wells Fargo is one of the largest banks in america, and they are the ones stealing from the customers.

I dont really understand why a bank needs to be stealing money from people that are giving them money, it just doesn't make sense to me, quite foolish actually. when you're one of the largest banks in america handling peoples money all day, it doesnt represent a sense of professionalism, nor does it bode well for the companies name. The stealing isnt what strikes me, its the foolishness of the company that really dumbfounds me.

Jenna Pitre - "Houston Shooting: Nine Injured, Suspect Dead"

Summary: Early this morning around 6:30 a.m., a lone gunman opened fire outside a neighborhood strip mall in Houston, Texas. He injured 9 people, and was shot dead on site. One person was critically injured. It is said he was wearing military type uniform. He has Nazi paraphernalia with him and inside of his house, though the police are not using this information to present it as a motive yet. It is said the suspect was a lawyer who was experiencing "issues" at his law office.

Analysis/Synthesis: These mass shootings are taking place all over the U.S., withing days of each other. The more frequent they become, the more it feels almost normal. It's worrying that so much death is taking place currently, and I pray for it to stop. This reminds me of the shooting at a Washington Mall last FRIDAY.

Isabella Bruner-Houston Strip Mall Shooting Leaves 9 Injured, Suspect Dead

Summary: The article, happening today, on a Monday morning with 9 people injured to a shooter in Houston at a Petco in a shopping center. At 6:30 a.m. on the corner of Wesleyan and Bissonnet Street gun fire shoot out to innocent people. When the police arrived it resulted in gun fire going back and forth, until the police shot and killed the attacker. With all the victims being taken to the hospital, having a range of injury's from good to critical.  When the bomb squad arrived they checked vehicles and found one with "numerous weapons". The bomb squad also planned to search the buildings in the surrounding neighborhood but, didn't find any other suspects. "As victims of the Houston shooting fight for their lives this this morning,. Cellia and I ask that all Texans join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers." says Governor Greg Abbotte.

Image: Police activity near a shopping center Monday morning in southwest Houston

Analysis: The article written by ELISHA FIELDSTADT at September,26,2016 tells about the just recent shooting happening in Houston, Texas. This effects us in our normal day lives, especially of us living in Texas. This article makes me even more nervous around people when I'm outdoors. We have experienced way to many shootings in such a short period of time, its become to a point where outside interactions have gone down. Tension now is rising in the cites and towns of the U.S. of security and protection. What happened to it? This article connects to the Dallas sniper attacks that happened a couple of months ago, with someone killing innocent people to just prove a point . Or another event ending in pointless gun fire is the Boston Massacre, with one British solder thinking they heard "fire" to the Boston civilians and caused 5 deaths. Where has the respect for people gone? Why are these attacks rising? It is for us to try and put back the security that happened in our town and cities.

Mass Shooting in Houston -Josie Guthrey

A man wearing a vintage military Nazi uniform was the center of a mass shooting near a local Houston mall. The man had two guns that were later found to be purchased legally. The man injured 9 people, 1 in critical condition. This lasted for a while before the police killed him. When investigation the mans apartment, many historic and vintage military items were found. Luckily, no one else got hurt. It is also suspected the alleged shooter was an attorney who had a problem with is firm, but his identity is not confirmed.

Personally, i think we should have more control on who can acquire a gun. Seeing as these guns were purchased legally, it makes you think if our system is really safe.

Klein, Joshua

The death of Keith Scott was had a major impact on the Black Lives Matter Group in that another African American had been shot dead by police. The group says that it has to do with racism and the killing of an innocent African American man like other recent similar events however the police deny it saying he was armed. Though the police say he was armed there was little evidence of that due to the fact that the police body cameras were not turned on prior or during the incident and without that there was little hard evidence that the man was armed.

Summary: Police forces failed to turn on their body cameras prior to the shooting of Keith Scott, causing much social uproar about racisms of cops, like we have seen in previous shootings of African Americans. THe cops claim he was armed but lack of video from body camera holds no firm evidence.
Author:  Wesley Lowery is the author of the article, he keeps a very unbiased opinion on the very controversial subject. I have never read an article written by him.
Place and Time:  The article was published on september 26th at 2:00, which means that most of the info about the shooting has already been publicized making this article much more analytical than reportive.
Prior Knowledge:  I did know about the shooting in Charlotte however I did not know that the officer who shot did not have his body camera on.
Audience:  This article was mainly written for people interested in the issue at hand and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Reason:  The Article was written to inform readers about a current event.
The Main Idea:  The Main Idea of the article was that the Black Lives Matter Movement is a movement that is a very complicated issue.
Significance:  The significance of this article highlights the concerns of the public on the racial issues and police department that plague the nation
Synthesis:  The recent violence between the police departments of America and African Americans have resulted in social unrest. The lack of a body camera being active during a incident like this has only added wood to the fire of this big ethical issue in America.

Brittney Delpey: Dairy Industry Kills Half a Million Cows for Profit

The author of this article is Daniel Jennings who works for Off the Grid News. He has a professional outlook on the situation and is empathetic towards the cows. The article was written on September 17th, 2016 regarding events about the slaughtering of half a million cows.  This article was written for the people to know the injustices of cow killings and milk prices. It's also for dairy farmers so they can see how selling their cows to slaughter won't benefit them.
Big farms and small forms both made a deal with the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) so they could kill the cows in order to keep the milk supply down. This goes along with supply and demand. In order to have a higher demand for milk, thus higher prices, they needed to have less milk, thus less cows. The milk prices rose 66 cents per hundredweight between the years 2004 and 2008. This may not seem like a huge price jump but to the NMPF it was enough to murder 500,000 cows. Does that make sense? No. Also it ran them into legal problems because it went against a federal law called the Capper-Volstead Act. The law bans fixed pricing on supplies, such as milk. The reason farmers went along with this injustice is because they only get paid less than a third of the retail price of milk, so if milk is cheap they don't get much revenue. The milk industry settled with the plaintiffs for 52 million dollars. This money will be redistributed to residents who live(d) in Arizona, California, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin or the District of Columbia between the years of 2003 and 2016. Although this isn't a tax, it reminds me of "taxation without representation" because it has an impact on people who live in certain areas and charges them more money.

Prior Knowledge:  I didn't have any prior knowledge to this event. Because of this it left me even more shocked that an industry would go that far for money.

Trinity Bella Hawkins 6th - Since When Was America Great?

Summary: In this article, a young writer from Affinity Magazine talks about the idea of American greatness, mainly Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign slogan "make America great again". In the article she also states reasons why we shouldn't uphold this and lists the reasons why, some of which are how there were 126 mass shootings in the U.S. this year alone, the U.S. is #1 is guns per capita next to Yemen, and that censorship is still a reigning force in our lives (re. Edward Snowden). This article asks us to really examine in the coming months who we pick to be our president and what effect they will have on these things.

Analysis: When we talk about this we need to really think about privilege - specifically who has it. Whenever something is created someone is benefitted; maybe on purpose or maybe accidentally but someone is benefitted. The slogan "Make America Great Again" uses language that directly references this idea of American greatness and who does that benefit - white upper class/upper middle class heterosexual cisgender males. This group of people have been the dominating force in America from the start of our country - our "first settlers" were white males who had enough privilege that they started their own colony for people like them to escape religious persecution, only to bring an entire race of people and disenfranchise them and disestablish the entire race of people that were already there and wipe them out. Our country was grown from corruption and until we realize that nothing will be fixed. You can't make something great again that was never great.

Synthesis: The slogan "Make America Great Again" reminds me of when on July 22, 2016 a KKK leader David Duke declared he was running for Louisiana senate using the slogan "America First"

Gracie Darlington: Lurking clown arrested in Kentucky woods near apartments

Police have arrested 20 year old Jonathan Martin for dressing up as a clown and hiding in the woods by apartment buildings in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Concern is growing as cases of clowns attempting to lure children into forests keep popping up across the southern US. A policeman from Barbourville, Kentucky published online, "while dressing up is not, in and of itself against the law, doing so in public and thereby creating an unnecessary sense of alarm is illegal." There have been many false reports lately of clowns tapping on windows and scaring kids on their way to school. An eleven year old girl in Georgia was even arrested for bringing a knife to her school because she saw on social media that clowns were attacking children. Police are warning people to not dress in clown costumes, as it could lead to criminal charges.
Prior to reading this article, I had zero idea that so many similar cases are being reported in the US lately. The people dressing up are feeding on people's prior fears of clowns, and it's super creepy. With Halloween being just around the corner, the timing of this wave of clown sightings adds an extra layer of uneasiness and fear. The false reports to police and on social media can connect back to the Salem Witch Trials, when fake reports of witches led to the same sense of paranoia, fear, and chaos.

Summary:
17 year old girl has been found after she went missing when three bodies were found in her home in Southern California. The two murders have been found with the names of Josh Acosta ,21 and Frank Felix,25. When the authorities reached to the teens house, they discovered three dead bodies, two male and one female,  and two children who were unharmed. The two males were discovered to be Christopher Yost 34 (the teens stepfather),William Boucher 28(family friend) and Jennifer Goodwill Yost 39(mother of teen). The girl who they later discovered was named Katlynn Goodwill Yost, she might also be facing custody. The authorities have not stated exactly if she will or will not.

Analysis:
The post was written by Faith Karimi for CNN and published September 26,2016. The author does not demonstrate his opinion about the topic,he just states the events that happened without including his point of view on the situation. This was the first time I heard this story and would like to know more about it once further information is given about the case as the author said more information will be released as the process goes by. This certain case reminded me in a way of how the Natives  would get captures by the English. Since as it seems to be as the teen was captured by the two murders . It could relate in how the English would capture them and sometimes kill their families just how the murders killed the family of the teen.

Over 100 Pumpkins Stolen from Elderly Farmer- Abby Pryor 8th Period

Summary:
Teddy Randall is an elderly farmer that has worked on farms for more than 80 years. Her budget is dependent on the crops she grows and sells, so a thief taking over 100 pumpkins from her farm has really hurt her business. Even though she is elderly, she says that she does most of the work for her farm by herself. Being a people loving person, she says that she actually feels sorry for the crook who took her pumpkins. This past Saturday, Randall went to sleep with about 150 pumpkins covering the entire hill. When she went outside that morning, she discovered that there were only about 50 pumpkins left on her land. This thief cost Randall around $300 worth of income. The saddest part, according to Teddy, is that someone had taken advantage of her "trusting nature".

Analysis:
I think that there are lots of people who will take advantage of the elderly and/or the economy around them. It is hard to put faith in people who help you with your income, and situations like this should make farmers more aware of the things that people can take advantage of. Having too much trust can cost you around $300, in Teddy Randall's case.

Elijah Macias- "Charlotte police shooting: What happens next"

Summary: After the shooting at Charlotte, leaving Keith Lamont Scott dead, the protests have begun to die down after the curfew was put into place by the national guard. The released body camera video doesn't give a definite answer on if Scott had a gun. So as for now, we don't know if it was justified.

Analysis: After yet another police brutality, we are back to square one. After all of the crazy violent protests, which i don't condone by the way, there is no progress. Even if Scott was a crazy lunatic that made the police fear for their life, which i'm not saying is true, there is still other ways to detain him, rather than shoot him repeatedly. This could be compared to the terrible treatment of blacks and the civil rights movement in the 60's ;They fought long and hard for civil liberties and got them. We are supposed to be the most advanced country in all of the world, why can't we solve simple internal conflicts like this? Whats next?

Nadia Blanton -King County in Seattle Wants to Open Legal Heroin Clinics to Combat Epidemic

by Nadia Blanton

Summary: The purpose of this newly proposed clinic is to provide a safe environment for heroin and opioid users. In the clinic users are not to be arrested for their usage of drugs, which raises many concerns. However, the clinic does not encourage or provide drugs but instead clean needles and equipment to reduce the spread of infection. It will also be a place for addicts to have a place with a decrease in social stigma and judgement so that they may seek help with their addiction.

Analysis: More clinics like this one being proposed in Seattle would help to possibly decrease the amount of heroin and opioid users. Keeping these people off of the dangerous streets where the drugs are being sold is also an important factor to ensuring that they are around those who can influence them positively.

Linnea Soderlund: Houston Shooting

Summary: Early this morning, a lawyer who supposedly had many issues at work sent six people to the hospital after opening fire in a residential area in southwest Houston this morning. The gunman was later shot dead by the police and has yet to be identified. Jennifer Molleda, the wife of one victim, commented on the incident to local news.

Analysis: This article by Christine Hauser is really upsetting. I would like to say that I can't believe that this keeps happening, but I can. These things lose impact and become less surprising and grow into normality. Nothing will change and people will continue to be killed and hurt until we really do something to fix it. It makes me so mad to see these kinds of events constantly pooping up in the news and watching everyone who has the power to change it standby and do nothing.

Synthesis: It's just like every other mass shooting that happens here far too often.
But this story also kind of reminded me of one episode of Criminal Minds where this guy had trouble at work and went on a shooting spree while driving.

Trinity Bella Hawkins 6th - A Young Transgender Student Takes A Stance

*this is the one from last week that I couldn't do*

Summary: On Sept. 12, a young transgender student took stand  by delivering a speech to the school board after one of his classmates said that she "would rather fail gym class than change with transgender students in the locker room". The student told his mom that he had to stand up against what he called "hateful and ignorant rhetoric against trans students". The students mother, Alisa Bowman, told news reporters that it was "very important" for him to tell people the truth and "set the record straight". Bowman recorded the video and uploaded it on to Facebook, where the video has garnered more than 400,000 views. East Penn School District declined an interview.

Analysis: Our modern day America was built on a system of injustice. Whenever people oppose that, their source material is always the Constitution, and how it addresses the freedom of men - but what these people don't realize is that these words were not meant for oppressed people. These oppressed people include people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people of different creeds and religions, and even in modern day America, we still have trouble addressing the problems that these people face in their everyday life and how that affects the American experience as a whole. As a young black Christian woman I am afraid to step out of my house everyday and I am even more afraid when my brother and my father drive somewhere, and that is heightened by the fact that we live in Texas. I have people in my family who are apart of the LGBTQIA+ community, and it makes me very sad to see the everyday struggles that they have to through with being black on top of being gay, and it makes me worried for the future and it also emphasizes my point even more - that we have to really work to care for this future generation because we want to leave something good for them. We have a lot of work to do.

Synthesis: This event reminds me of the 1978 California government race in which Harvey Milk, an openly gay man and gay rights activist,  told The New York Times that "we don't want sympathetic liberals, we want gays to represent gays".

Hey you!!! Yeah you!!! Come Break into my car to save my pet!!!!! by Harper Jones

Summary: California Governor, Jerry Brown, approved law AP 797 (a law that allows people to break into cars to save animals that may be at risk of overheating.). This is apart of the "Right to Rescue" act that states that the rescuer must call the police first, then proceed to save the pet. Afterwards, they must stay at the scene until law enforcement arrives. This bill was presented after numerous of animal deaths in the state due to being left in a car on blazing, hot days. PETA states that animals could suffer brain damage or death from heatstroke by being left in a hot vehicle. All it takes is just 15 minutes. A man named Steinorth says that this act will save lives and good Samaritans won't be sued for such heroic actions. This effort also spreads awareness about the danger of hot cars.

Analysis: I believe that this is a great law because before this law was passed, I found it very hard to believe that some people were conscious about their pets and what the heat could do to them. Honestly, the act was thought through and reasonable. It shows that we Americans actually value our best friends.http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Gov-Brown-signs-law-allowing-Californians-to-9287649.php

Audrey Griffin "Trump launches 'Crooked Hillary' Snapchat filter for debate"

Trump launches 'Crooked Hillary' Snapchat filter for debate

Summary: Today Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign made history. Tonight is the first presidential debate and Trump's campaign hopes to incite excitement in the younger generation. Other campaigns, including that of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, have used geotags over small areas for events such as rallies, but this is the first time a politician has purchased a national geotag. During the course of this presidential race the use of social media has become an extremely popular method for candidates to connect with a wide audience, especially of young people.

Analysis: With the popularization of social media as a political platform, candidates now the opportunity to connect directly and candidly with their audiences. It has also enabled young people to discuss issues that matter to them on a larger platform. I think this connects to the first presidential debate to be broadcasted on television, during the 1960 race between Kennedy and Nixon. It was extremely groundbreaking and allowed a wider audience to have access to political information.

Liza Kaye: Houston shooting, nine injured, shooter dead

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/26/us/houston-shooting/index.html

This article found on CNN was written by Samira Said and Catherine Shoichet on Monday September 26, 2016 and updated at 7:34 PM ET. Today in Houston, Texas, a mass shooting occurred. Neo Nazi emblems were found on the killers outfit. The gunman was a local West University attorney. Recently there was news of his law firm not doing great. When at the shooters home, they found vintage military equipment. Some of the equipment went as far back as the Civil War. Although he did have various different Nazi emblems on him, the police have not used that to establish any sort of motive behind the attacks. Once police arrived on scene, the gunman tried to hide behind a tree. He also had 2,600 rounds of ammunition. Attorney Nathan Desai has been identified as the gunman, who additionally was alone during the crime. This is a very significant article because in the recent past America has had an abundance of gun control problems. I think it is very much necessary to pass more strict gun laws to help prohibit intentional and accidental gun violence. Although many argue that a law won't prevent people from abusing guns, we still need to pass a useful law. This related to APUSH because there have been several historical accounts of violence whether it was with a gun or another type of weapon. If there were precautionary measures, a percentage of these violent breakouts may not have happened.

Hannah Howell- E Coli Outbreak Leads To Meat Recall

Summary: An outbreak of a dangerous strand of E Coli in beef products has affected 7 people in the northeast. Thankfully no deaths have bee recorded, but 5 of the 7 people have become hospitalized. The only explanation of this is that animal waste came in contact with the crops. After an investigation of the outbreak, it was traced back to Adams Farm Slaughterhouse in Massachusetts. They are now recalling their products so no more people are harmed.

Analysis: I am glad to hear that all the people who got the virus are okay. I think that better sanitary precautions should be taken to prevent an outbreak like this happening again, though I know that sometimes accidents happen. This reminds me of the outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter in 2014 and the recent outbreak of Hepatitis A in frozen strawberries.
