cell phone network on the moon

Germany has announced that they are collaborating with nokia to develop a cell phone network on the moon. it is supposed to allow hd streaming to earth as part of a first privately funded moon mission. however 5g is still under testing and they are not sure it will provide stable connection on the moon, so instead they are working towards using 4g.

honestly I don't really see a point as to why they are doing this but I mean if we ever go back to the moon I guess it'll be useful. however considering how much debris is clustered around the earth, I don't see that happening anytime soon. all and all it is interesting to see that they're making plans for this. cant wait to see how it plans out.

Michael Sanchez.......trump tried...

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/02/every-gun-policy-president-trump-has-proposed.html

After mass shootings in Parkland many believed his plan was to lay low for a few days, however students at Douglass wouldn't let him . Now he's passing a bill that requires mental heath backgrounds and listening sessions about gun violence. However, not admitting to having guns being the problem and even agreeing with the statement ,"a good guy with a bad guy with a gun"....

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/26/opinions/trump-parkland-shooting-mental-health-sandra-allen-opinion/index.html

This toxic lie about gun violence hurts society’s most of vulnerable.  The shooting at Douglas high school in Florida is the eighth school shooting to result in death or injury in the first two months of 2018 and has inspired a wave of activism against the ravages of gun violence.  President Trump  focused his remarks on mental health and on people who are crazy and sick and he believe that insane people are to blame for gun violence. Trump invokes fear through stereotype in an effort to distract from the obvious reason he and many others of his party filter take seriously gun violence in the threat it poses to all Americans.
This article relates to US history because gun violence is a major issue in our country especially because guns are legal and very easy to buy. This reminds me of the 18th amendment when alcohol was prohibited. If guns become illegal to own or sell, people will want them more and will secretly smuggle them in to the country and it would become a huge problem like alcohol was in the early 1900s.

Chloe Villa-Abrille Changes because of Shootings?

Senate Bill 7022 will not be changed even though the lives of any were taken along with it. It seems as though the lives of the children are to be less important to lawmakers than donations from the NRA. What was to remove the ability to own a rapid or automatic weapon was soon decided to be something that would fade to the back of peoples minds as student must now go back to school as if nothing happened. Students have banned together in support for one another, and in hopes of making changes as well, but even so not enough people are working to this cause, and people are going on with their lives in fear, wondering wether or not they’ll be shot in a supposedly safe public area. Students are expected to go back this week, yet many are conflicted over wether or not to, over all this situation is extremely complex and no one is doing anything to solve it.
The shooting is one of the numerous mass shootings in America, relating to the Columbine mass shooting. Even after a shooting that shocked America, nothing has been done, and has thus repeated many times, yet with no change. America can be stubborn in its ways, when something becomes the norm here people have a hard time giving it up, sadly that has happened with guns as well. It relates to prohibition were America threw a fit over the removal of alcohol, sadly this is the case for this country, no matter what it is, if it’s taken away there will always be a side that will justify having it because of the influences of money and power.

Teachers Will Protest Against New Gun Rules - Taylor Townsend

Educators in Maryland are pushing back against President Donald Trump's call to arm 20 percent of teachers nationwide. In the last ten days,  police have found no credible threats but they are definitely investigating all threats. In the state of Maryland, there has been more than 15 recent threats regarding schools.

These incidents are igniting President Trump's call to arm teachers in classrooms. Baltimore County Police responded to Lansdowne High School on Friday morning after a Snapchat post described the Parkland shooting suspect as a "brother" and promised more victims. Betty Weller of the Maryland State Education Association says many teachers would rather find  another career than carry a gun.

Walmart raises minimum age for firearm purchases to 21

http://money.cnn.com/2018/02/28/news/companies/walmart-guns/index.html

summary:
On Wednesday the Walmart spoke on what the companies stance on gun policy is. Since the Florida shooting at Parkland High School they have decided that it is in the customers best interest if they raise the minimum age for fire arm purchase to 21. They have also limited their variety in assault riffles and even stopped selling hand guns. The company also spoke on the background check that takes place when purchasing a hand gun. Dick's sporting goods is another company were the minimum age has risen to 21 and the variety of assault riffles has been reduced.

analysis:
There has been many fatal tragedies that are the result of easy access to fire arms. Along with protest i am glad to see that major companies ,such as Walmart and Dick's, are taking matters into their own hands. Although i feel like raising the age requirement to a new minimum, i also feel like the implementation of deeper background checks should be set in place. It is very sad to see that gun control and safety is something our generation has to be especially worried about and fight to change history. I agree with the statement that people should exercise their second amendment right but an "average" person shouldn't have the same fire power as that of  the military.

synthesis:
Gun control relates to history because it is written in the bill of rights as the second amendment, the right to bare arms. This interpretation and the rights given to us by this amendment are often left up to interpretation.

Georgia Republicans threaten to stop Delta tax break over NRA decision

Georgia Republicans are threatening to kill apart of a bill that would eliminate a state tax on jet fuel, which would save the Atlanta-based airline tens of millions of dollars, however the bill still needs to pass the Senate before it can be signed into law.
Georgia's House of Representatives voted in favor of the legislation last week. It also won over Republican Governor Nathan Deal, who called this an important part of the state's tax reform plan that would "keep Georgia competitive as a major international hub of commerce." However, Delta became one of the few companies to abandon its relationship with the NRA after the school shooting in Florida.
Republicans are thinking over the airline's decision, after Delta said in a statement that the decision "reflects the airline's neutral status in the current national debate over gun control." Governor Casey Cagle even tweeted he'd "kill any tax legislation that benefits Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with NRA."
This article is very eye opening to how the government reacts in difficult circumstances, in this particular case there's division. When something as horrible as the Florida shooting with 17 deaths occurs it should only bring people together to heal and shield danger as seen in history many times. There's been many terrorist threats in the past, luckily government have been able to make peace, and citizens have been able to simply be there for one another.

Black Panther has collected over $700 millions dollars worldwide it's first ten days of viewing. Disney has decided to donate $1 million of this profit to the Boys & Girls Club. I think that this is an amazing way to give back to the community. I think that if people start to be generous like this that our community can grow through so many new discoveries. I'm glad that Disney gives back after all the money that they've earned.

Black Panther money being donated- Isabella Hambleton

The new movie Black Panther just recently came out and has been a huge success, especially financially. It has already pulled in about $700 million worldwide and the numbers just keep going up. The owner of Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, has decided to donate $1 million to the Boys and Girls club. The Boys and Girls club is a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program and is for children seeking more education and success. Some of these programs take in children from underprivileged areas and don't have enough money to support their program. That is why Disney has decided to donate to help those kids achieve success.
This article, written by Jill Disis from CNN News, shows us how large companies are giving back to the community to benefit others. These companies are using some of the money they have earned and are donating it to good causes. If many other companies did this as well our community would grow much faster and we would have more funds to produce these types of programs leading the younger generation to success.

Connor Norton - China proposes removal of two-term limit, potentially paving way for President Xi Jinping to stay on

This past Sunday the ruling Communist Party in China announced its intentions to remove the two term limit set on Chinese presidents before the end of the second term of current communist leader Xi Jinping, who would then be able to run for re-election in 2023. This has widely been seen by Chinese political analysts as a show of Xi's personal power and wants wining dominance over the wants of the Chinese establishment, and though the lack of leaks and reveal before the party session make this announcement somewhat odd, it still functions as an important reminder of Xi Jinping's intentions to maintain his power and position in the Chinese government. It is also important to note that rolling back the restriction would act in direct contradiction to the wills of Xi's predecessors, who may have continued to play key roles in Chinese life but only had official government roles for 10 years; some have even gone so far as to call the instating of Xi Jinping as the uncontested ruler of China a return to the "Mao era".

This ties to the time in American history in which FDR ran for and won the presidency 4 times before dying of internal bleeding in the head while president, an unprecedented number of times to serve in the oval office. After George Washington served only two terms, every other president had done the same (if they could) before FDR ran for the office 4 times in the name of pushing his domestic economic policy and leading the nation through WWII, which ended soon after he died in his 4th term. Congress, however, was scared by FDR's lengthy stay in the west wing, passing the two-term limit with the 22nd amendment; and no one has ran for more than two terms since.

Trump says not to be 'afraid' of NRA, says he's 'writing out' use of bump stocks

"Don't worry about the NRA, they're on our side," Trump said. "Half of you are so afraid of the NRA. There's nothing to be afraid of." Trump said he met over the weekend with pushed the NRA's opposition to stricter gun regulation. Over the last week, Trump surprisingly has showed his support for measures the NRA opposes, like for example raising the age for purchasing semi automatic rifles and banning bump stocks, devices that speed up the firing rate of semiautomatic weapons. "Bump stocks, we're writing that out. I'm writing that out myself," Trump said. "I don't care if Congress does it or not." "We have to have action. We don't have any action. It happens, a week goes by, let's keep talking. Another week goes by, we keep talking. Two months go by, all of a sudden everybody is off to the next subject. And when it happens again, everybody is angry and let's start talking again. We've got to stop," he said. This is extremely odd behavior coming from a man who recieved $30 million to back his presidential campaign in 2016 because his views are gradually differing from that of the NRA . Also, Trump said that the NRA officials "great patriots" and that there is “no bigger fan of the 2nd Amendment than me and there's no bigger fan of the NRA."

This is a major issue that relates towards US History regarding the increase of progressive reform like worker's unions. There needs to be a lot of change regarding the gun laws or so many more innocent people will be killed.

14 Year Old Girl Charged in Connection to Father's Death - Taylor Townsend

48 year old Montrel Williams was found dead in his home Saturday. Ohama Police have confirmed that they have arrested Williams' 14 year old daughter in connection to the murder. According to neighbors, the father and daughter had just moved into the home where the body was found about three months ago.

The 14 year old girl was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center for criminal homicide, on the following Sunday. Authorities were called to Williams' home to check on the well being of the resident after multiple gun shots were heard by neighbors. Officer Michael Pecha, an Ohama Police officer, says that the investigation is still going on and will produce more information in a couple of days.

Henry Haas- The Response

President Trump’s response to the growing pressure on him and congress regarding the NRA and gun control was rather unsurprisingly not very in depth. He stated a few things about his close ties with the NRA and sometimes it felt like he was going to get to a point but he always seemed to fall a bit flat in regards to this issue. It seems he doesn’t really want to upset either party, however, by sitting back and not calling anything to action he may end up in a worse situation. Pressure is continuing to build on the president regarding stricter background checks and flat out ban of guns, however many on the right are stating that a decision will not be made now. That begs the question, if not now, when?

As far as I’m concerned, guns are an issue that needs to be unpolarized. No matter what the problem is these days it always seems like we can only lean towards extremes, and no one seems to want to give up ground so they can meet in the middle. As a small personal note, I think the second amendment needs a bit of help, and I don’t just want to flat out keep it as is or immediately ban everything. No matter my views on it or anyone else’s or the presidents, all we need to do to get working on this issue is talk. Talk to others about it that have different opinions and you may just get your mind chamged. Communication has always been key, but it’s especially necessary in this country today. Hopefully we can figure that out soon enough.

Disney donates $1 million from 'Black Panther' to the Boys & Girls Clubs - Chloe Walker

In celebration of Marvel's Black Panther's success Disney will be donating $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Disney CEO Bob Iger said that it was "thrilling to see how inspired young audiences were by the spectacular technology in the film." The donations will go toward youth programs such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). With this donation the organization will organize new STEM organizations programs for the youth in multiple states across the U.S.

Jill Disis of CNN, created this Article on February 26 2018. Before this article I had already known the extraordinary effects Black Panther had on the younger generation but, I did not know its benefits towards STEM programs. This effects my understanding of the article because I now know even greater effects of the black super hero film. This article has a positive influence and was written to inform others on the benefits of the successful film towards the younger generation. This article is important because it shows how important representation of a black super hero film has towards a younger generation.

How World War I Gave Women Scientists a Chance to Shine - National Geographic
https://apple.news/AyP5F4gOrQyGmNBT1_D4USA

Patricia Fara is a president of the British Society for the History of Science and explains the evolution of society’s role for women throughout time and how the Great War hugely impacted it. She explains how before the war, extremely few women studied or worked in scientific fields due to the few schools which offered it to them in the first place, as well as the conventional expectations of the girl’s parents. But when men went to battle, women were left to fill the (some scientific) positions which were now empty. Though, it is essential to point out that when women took the exact same jobs which men left, they were paid much less than men were while working the same position. She goes on to elaborate on many remarkable ladies of the time, such as Dorothea Bate, Martha Whitely, Ray Costelloe, and Helena Gleichen, who learned the works of radiography and took many X-rays of men wounded in battle at the Italian front.

Many of the women listed in the above summary were also extremely active leaders in the fight for women’s suffrage before the war, among many other civil rights for women, like that of the hundreds of years old movement which first prominently surfaced in the United States in the nineteenth century and was especially remarkable in the 60s/70s. I think that stories and studies like these are very important to not only reinforce how far women in all sorts of forces of society have come and how wonderful it is, but also that there is still a margin of the perceived capabilities of a man and a woman, whose untrue parts must still be dismissed.

Six Rikers Island Inmates Attack Guard - Taylor Townsend

Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, one inmate hit the 39 year old officer leading others to jump in as well, knocking the officer unconscious. The correction officer is now recovering from a spinal fracture and bleeding in his brain in the hospital. The surveillance cameras inside the prison show the officer being sucker punched by one inmate, then five others follow behind beating him to the floor.

In the hospital, the officer was not able to talk, his head was extremely swollen, and he had a brace on his neck. According to authorities, this may have been a planned gang attack. Four inmates were charged in connection to the assault on the following Sunday. They are expected to be arraigned Monday.

Carlo Lomas - Students Aren't learning About Slavery

The history of slavery in America continues to be inadequately thought in schools nationwide, a reality that's causing damaging ramifications on student learning and present day racial tensions.
8 percent of 1,000 surveyed high school seniors identified slavery as the central cause of the civil war. Further, only 22 percent knew protections for slavery were included in the constitution and just 39 percent correctly acknowledged that slavery shaped the fundamental American beliefs about race.

To understand the world today we must understand slavery. Slavery is our country's origin and was our country's Achilles' heels. Schools are not adequately teaching the history of American history. Educators are not sufficiently prepared to teach it. The author of this article Lauren Camera shared the ideas that slavery was and is currently being wrongfully looked at. The article targets the young civilians known as teenagers. This article was produced on February 1, 1998.

Controversy on Clueless star, for president?

A familiar face, maybe in office very soon. "Clueless" star and former Fox commentator Stacey Dash is running for Congress in California.  The actress filed paperwork Monday to run in California's 44th district, which is currently represented by Democrat Nanette Barragán. It overwhelmingly voted for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016, 83%-12%. Representatives for Dash did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment. Dash has not publicly issued a statement. However, she did tease a potential run earlier this month. "A number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office," she tweeted February 9. She endorsed then Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Twitter. The endorsement drew the attention of Fox News, which hired her in 2014 to offer "cultural analysis and commentary." Last year the network did not renew her contract. The 51-year-old, who wrote a memoir called "There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative," has been a polarizing figure since she made the transition from beloved 1990s actor to conservative pundit. She is known for taking controversial stances on issues affecting people of color. In 2016, she called the #OscarsSoWhite boycott "ludicrous" and said there was no need for Black History Month. During the Oscars that same here, host Chris Rock jokingly brought Dash to the stage as the Academy's new director of "minority outreach program." "I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month," she giggled. "Thank you." She exited the stage as silence fell over the audience… Although this is a minor form of racism, this relates to US History, as it includes politics and their very abrupt views….

DACA update- Noah Huerta

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/26/politics/daca-supreme-court/index.html

DACA's ruling, as to whether or not the individual's protection renewal is being terminated, is being extended indefinitely
because the Supreme Court does not want to make a decision.
This however not being a decision, DACA is still technically in the "Grace-period" but for a longer amount of time.

How does this relate to US History? Well I don't think it's hard to notice, this is current news and issues surrounding indecisive people are all apart of American history. Look at how the reaction was when the 36-30 line to the Missouri Compromise was broken. Or the fact that governments couldn't decide on ending slavery so they made compromises for some reason.
The parallel of history being that indecisive delays are a part of American history.

"Clueless" Actress Running for Congress

Stacey Dash who stared in "Clueless"  in the 1990s is now running for Congress in California. The outspoken Republican filed the paperwork on Monday. She is to run in California's 44th district. The district has been long run by members of the democratic party, and it voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections. Although Dash has not publicly issued a statement, she has hinted about running earlier this month. A tweet on February 9th said, " number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office," Dash is curious about the reactions she will receive from the community as she decides to run. This past week she has tweeted saying things are, "taking shape" and following up with, "soon". Dash has declared her candidacy with an electronic signature on the website for her campaign. Dash has been on the conservative scene since 2012, endorsing Mitt Romney on twitter for president. This endorsement drew the attention of Fox News, and they hired her in 2014 to offer "cultural analysis and commentary". Her contract was not renewed this past year. Dash has faced some serious controversy transitioning from a beloved actress of the 1990s to a conservative republican. "She has become known for taking controversial stances on issues affecting people of color." In 2016, she called the #oscarssowhiteboycott "ludicrous", and she went on to say that there was no need for Black History Month.

I think it's strange how lately it seems as though many celebrities are anxious to get into politics. We've seen it in an obvious way with Donald Trump.  I'm curious to see what backlash and reviews she may receive for/during her campaign. Saying there is no need for Black History Month is really shocking to me. I think Black History Month is very important and it's something we should continue to uphold. It shows the overcoming of unbearable ordeals and how growth occurs. There is still so much progress to be made and for her to speak disparagingly of these events transpiring is a little bit frightening.

Girlfriend in Connection to Murder of Boyfriend's Parents Accepts Plea Deal - Taylor Townsend

The son of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, Kyle Navin, was accused of killing his parents back in 2015 and all of the legal proceedings investigating their murders are finally closing in on a conclusion. Kyle Navin is allegedly being accused of murdering his parents because they wanted to cut him out their will.

Kyle's girlfriend, Jennifer Valiente, has served two years in prison on a conspiracy to commit murder charge. She has finally accepted an eight year plea deal. There's no dispute that Kyle killed his parents, the dispute is whether or not Valiente helped him cover up the murder. Her lawyer advised her to accept the eight year plea deal rather than the maximum ten year sentence.

Liam Wise - Trump Flip-Flops on Gun Control

In the wake of the atrocity that occurred in Parkland, Florida last week, Trump announced his plan to increase the age limit on some gun purchases to 21. White House officials are lately having issues determining how "focused" Trump is on that particular issue. We seem to live in an arbitrary age where our president finds certain issues only worth his time for a full news cycle. The NRA took an adverse path, coming out against any proposal of the sort, garnering support in the Senate. This population so easily swayed by the National Rifle Association may well be the reason no bill like this will pass the Senate any time soon. Trump plans to meet with bipartisan lawmakers to discuss legislative action in response to the tragic events in Parkland. Until then, we hope for Trump's characteristic largesse to inspire a strengthening of background checks and the outlawing of these unnecessarily dangerous devices.

Global Warmings Rise// Thursdae Sierocki

It's no secret to most of the world that climate change is real and causing major effects in our current environment. Recent changes in the continent of Antarctica are worrying scientists for our future. Last January, scientists found that a strip of the West Antarctic Ice sheet two times the size of California was melting. The cause of this is directly linked to an El Nino Effect, something that rarely bothers the Arctic areas. This mixed with unusually rainfall in the desert of Antarctica, may cause dramatic and rapid changes in our sea level within the next 100 years.
An increase in global warming can be seen within the years of the Industrial Revolution, when our society became primarily reliant on the use of nonrenewable energy and fossil fuels. The El Nino Effect has been seen all throughout history starting weakly in the 50s and strengthening its effect in recent years. This CNN article, written by AJ Willingham on August 20th, provides recent up-to-date information allowing the reader to update their previous knowledge on similar events. The informative information enclosed has a slight effect on the audience, hoping they will change some of their ways to help our world. There is no way to turn back time and change the harm we have done to our environment, but there are ways now to patch up the wounds we have caused and slow the demise of our world.

Were there warning signs that could've helped prevent this school shooting from happening? Many people ponder over the life of Nikolas Cruz, and how he seemed to be a concerning child most of his life. The ones who knew Cruz said that he has always looked to be a hazard. One neighbor of his said he had a cold stare, and constantly got into fights, and another stated that he even shot squirrels with a gun casually throughout the neighborhood. One surviver who previously attended school with his said it was no surprise that he was the shooter; he even introduced himself as "a school shooter".  No one would've guessed him to kill all these people, even though he had a dark past. The question still comes to be, "Why did no one intervene?".

It's concerning that he probably frightened people so bad that no one checked on him. Somebody should've asked him if he was okay, or at least offered to help. All those warning signs, and not one person stepped up to give a care. In the article it even said that he made even teachers uncomfortable because of his unruly behavior.

(I can't remember her name, BUT) There was a woman who went undercover in insane asylums, and she studied the treatment of them, which was horrible. How it relates is, I'm not saying he was crazy, but some of those people just need a little bit of love in their life to feel sane.

Oklahoma Gas Explosion Leaves Five Missing - Taylor Townsend

Five oil rig workers have went missing after and explosion in a gas well in Oklahoma. The other seventeen workers were rescued and taken to safety after the explosion but there has been no sign of the five other employees. One employee was flown to a hospital in Tulsa by helicopter. The other sixteen workers had minor to no injuries.

A call was reported to emergency responders around 8:45 a.m. Emergency workers are working with rig operators to get the gas well shut and contained. Kevin Eloe told interviewers they're letting the fire run its course. It is still unclear if the workers were drilling for oil or natural gas.

Trump at it again By:Thalia wallace

                                                             SUMMARY:
Once again our president found a way to act stupidly by trying to blame the police officers for the Florida shooting by saying he would have been braver and would have went in the school himself to "fix it".

                                                            RELEVANCE:
I think we've seen enough civil wars and having too many political riffs and views , so lets work on keeping history from repeating and actually respect one another.

Republicans Threaten Delta Airline: Hannah Karim

The NRA (National Riffle Association) is affiliated with multiple companies. Before recently Delta Airlines was one affiliate. Due to the tragedy that occurred in Florida almost two weeks ago, many large companies are leaving the NRA affiliation because they do not support the easy access of guns that people are getting.
Due to their drop out, GOP lawmakers are threatening to raise taxes on jet fuel for the airline. Which will make it much more expensive to get fuel for the planes Delta uses to get its passengers from point A to point B. I think that it is quite sad the NRA has to threaten people now that they are losing affiliates. Maybe that’s a message to them that what they support isn’t right and needs to be changed for the safety of our countries citizens.

Trump has released that he will be raising the age to 21 to purchase a gun due to the recent trauma in Parkland, FL. Some congressmen are concerned with how level headed Trump is with this issue. With our current leadership, our nation only seems to find a certain amount of time for things he seems fit to be a headliner in the news. The NRA completely disagreed with Trump’s decision and gained support in the Senate. The NRA gained support immediately and made it clear that there will be no bill along these lines being passed anytime soon.
There have also been multiple peaceful protest which connects with MLK’s time of peaceful protests for the importance of black lives. The only difference with the protests today are what they are for, these protests are just to bring awareness to how many people of the young generation Trump and society is endangering by not completely finding a full action plan on these consistent shootings in schools

Katelyn Thompson-Trump says not to be 'afraid' of NRA, says he's 'writing out' use of bump stocks

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/26/politics/trump-lunch-nra-lapierre-cox/index.html

This article was written by Noah Gray and Jeremy Diamond from CNN. Earlier today, the president met with state governors trying to convince them not to be afraid of the NRA.  He said, "don't worry about the NRA, they're on our side". He also pledged to find a way to eliminate the use of bumper fire stocks and improve mental health issues. He also states that he wants mental institutions "like the old days," where people could place people in involuntarily. He continued saying that he met over the weekend with the head of the NRA CEO Wayne Lapierre and head of its lobbying arm, Chris Cox. It should be mentioned that the NRA spent more than $30 million to back Trumps presidential bid. However the president has signaled support for measures that the NRA opposes, for example raising the age to buy a semi automatic. The President and the NRA also talked about raising background checks, something they agreed on.
Trump goes into talking about arming teachers with guns, and Washington Governor, Jay Inslee retaliated by mentioning how he has met with teachers who do not want to carry a gun, he has met with law enforcement that doesn't want to train teachers in law enforcement.
My analysis of this article is that it is liberal, it addresses gun violence, and talks back to the president. in my opinion, I believe that GOV. Inslee was trying to tell Trump that schools should not be fortresses. They should be an open learning environment that generates creativity, not a dungeon with a mote guarded by armed teachers who have only had 6 months of training.
My synthesis is that this relates to the second amendment right which is the right to bear arms, but is it really a right when there have been 18 school shootings between January first and February 14?

Shayne Grant: All Schools in West Virginia closed Monday

Every single West Virginia public school was closed today including over 680 schools in the state's 55 counties. The closings come after a teacher strike that began last week where teachers are demanding higher wages and more comprehensive benefits. The state ranks 48th in the nation for average teacher salary and employs over 20,000 under paid educators. West Virginia governor Jim Justice signed a bill last week that would raise teachers' salary however strike leaders have refused to back down saying that the bill is not strong enough.

While school closings are inconvenient and take time away from education, these strikes outline a larger issue in the country of teacher's compensation. Educators for years have demanded higher wages with governments flat out ignoring these requests. The strikes are important in that they send a clear message to legislatures that teachers will not sit around any longer working for low wages when their job is such an integral part in making the world succeed.

Women in Saudi Arabia are slowly gaining more rights and becoming more active roles in their society. As of today Arabic law has allowed women to serve and join the military (which is a huge deal). Previously, Arabic women had little to no rights and ultimately served their lives as housewives. But with the new westernized ideals and policies, women are beginning to get more involved in society.

King penguins under threat of climate change

The Antarctic Polar Front, a nutrient-rich band of water where King penguins find most of their food, is moving away from places where the penguins can breed, which means that the birds will have to swim longer and farther to get their nourishment. The Front is steadily moving more inward to the South Pole, and these penguins breed on ice-free islands, of which there are few, located north of the Pole. These animals will either have to adapt to travelling larger distances every day or relocate to islands farther inward. It is possible that the more southern islands will become habitable for the penguins due to global warming, but nature would have to time it just right, so that by the time the new islands are ice-free, the food source will still not have passed too far away. Scientists estimate this product of climate change could severely impact most of the world's King penguin population by the end of the century. Researchers are encouraging conservation efforts and working on a model to show the effects of the Front's movement on other Antarctic species.

This relates to Theodore Roosevelt's encouragement of the protection and conservation of wildlife. The thinning of the ozone layer and the swift changes to the global climate have affected every living thing on Earth, and have led to drops in numbers of some species and alterations to the natural landscape. Roosevelt advocated strongly for respect for nature and implemented practices and created agencies to do anything that man could do to help the environment. We cannot go back and erase the damage that has already been done, but we can look toward clean, renewable energy sources and limit the burning and frivolous extraction of fossil fuels. Most people, including some of our Congressmen, don't particularly care about what happens to some penguins on the other side of the Earth, but some day, it will be humans who are having to pay for neglecting the needs of the world we live in. It is likely that when they realize this it will already be too late.

Manon McCollum - As Supreme Court positions harden on union case, likely deciding justice is silent

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/as-supreme-court-positions-harden-on-union-case-likely-deciding-justice-is-silent/2018/02/26/4c5f2456-1b2a-11e8-b2d9-08e748f892c0_story.html?utm_term=.1bff2c1c656b

A new supreme court case is ramping up to take away a lot of power and political viability from unions. The case, which is over whether or not unions should require union members to pay fees, thus agreeing to political views, in order to join.

Many of the conservative judges have fought hard to say that this practice is unconstitutional, but there has also been a lot of arguing over whether unions should exist at all. The simple fact is, that if they win this case, the unions will have less political power. And, with a majority republican court, that's fairly likely to happen.

This reminds me of the series of supreme court cases in the 1920s that rolled back many of the progressive era union privileges.

Ellie Bush current event

President Donald Trump declared Monday he's willing to take on the NRA over gun legislation, but Republicans who control Congress aren't sure. They prefer to consider only modest changes to firearms limits in response to the mass shooting at a Florida high school.
Congress returned to work Monday without following Trump's lead on any of the major initiatives he has tossed into the debate since the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Even though the public calls for stricter gun laws, Republican leaders have been quiet after the shooting which left 17 dead and prompted another phase in the gun debate, caused by the activism of the survivors.

I really hope the government decides to do something about gun control. It would prevent mass shootings and debates like these that happen over and over again.

NBA Star Struggles with Depression-Sophie Sandoval

DeMar DeRozan said that he suffers from depression and anxiety. He stated that, "were all humans and we have feelings....sometimes it feels like the whole world is on top of you". DeRozan he discovered his battle with depression on February 17. He described himself as a very standoffish person. Basketball help him cope with his situations and feelings. DeRozan said he's learned from his mother by not judging others because you never know what they're going through.

Analysis:
This situation reminds me of WW1 before the U.S. entered they were into isolation and after the war they went back into isolation. DeRozan is a very quiet person and isolates himself to cope with feelings. I have struggled with depression and anxiety so I know how difficult it must be for him.

                                                                 SUMMARY:

Stacey Dash the actress, known for her role as Dionne in Clueless, filed paperwork on Monday to create a campaign committee to run in California's 44th congressional district. The district in Southern California has been in Democratic hands since redistricting back in 2012.Given our current president I don't see much wrong with her being "on the road" to the white house. But, she's been quite ridiculed in the public eye for trying to cross over into modern politics.

                                                           RELEVANCE:
As of today we have someone in office  who was of celebrity status before taking office and in history we've had "common men" take office so I applaud her for stepping out on a limb.

West Virginia Schools Closed - Sam Wood 2-26-18

Every public school in the state of West Virginia closed because all of the teachers went on strike.  They demanded higher pay and better benefits. West Virginia employs nearly 20,000 classroom teachers and about 270,000 students missed school. The governor of West Virginia signed a bill giving teachers a pay raise. The teachers did not think it was enough and it didn't address other areas of concern such as health care.

Teachers work harder than anyone. It is very unfair that the teachers do not get fair pay and health care rights. It is great to see the teachers stand up against this.

Strike in West Virginia- Sanaya Gangal

Summary:
Every public school in West Virginia is closed due to a strike in public schools. Being ranked the 48th state in the nation for average teacher salary, according to the National Education Association, teachers have been slowly been withdrawing with the desire to teach. Last week teachers demanded higher wages and better benefits with their job, but after educators turned down their want, they went on strike.

Analysis:
I think it's very weird that every single public school in that state is CLOSED because teachers aren't being paid as much as they want to. I understand that money is important but I don't really understand how ALL the schools have shut down.
Education, for students, is a requirement so I feel that the teachers need to figure out another way to alert the government for a higher pay without putting kids' future in jeopardy.
