"Clueless" Actress Running for Congress

Stacey Dash who stared in "Clueless"  in the 1990s is now running for Congress in California. The outspoken Republican filed the paperwork on Monday. She is to run in California's 44th district. The district has been long run by members of the democratic party, and it voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections. Although Dash has not publicly issued a statement, she has hinted about running earlier this month. A tweet on February 9th said, " number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office," Dash is curious about the reactions she will receive from the community as she decides to run. This past week she has tweeted saying things are, "taking shape" and following up with, "soon". Dash has declared her candidacy with an electronic signature on the website for her campaign. Dash has been on the conservative scene since 2012, endorsing Mitt Romney on twitter for president. This endorsement drew the attention of Fox News, and they hired her in 2014 to offer "cultural analysis and commentary". Her contract was not renewed this past year. Dash has faced some serious controversy transitioning from a beloved actress of the 1990s to a conservative republican. "She has become known for taking controversial stances on issues affecting people of color." In 2016, she called the #oscarssowhiteboycott "ludicrous", and she went on to say that there was no need for Black History Month.

I think it's strange how lately it seems as though many celebrities are anxious to get into politics. We've seen it in an obvious way with Donald Trump.  I'm curious to see what backlash and reviews she may receive for/during her campaign. Saying there is no need for Black History Month is really shocking to me. I think Black History Month is very important and it's something we should continue to uphold. It shows the overcoming of unbearable ordeals and how growth occurs. There is still so much progress to be made and for her to speak disparagingly of these events transpiring is a little bit frightening.
