Last week Omar Gonzalez, 42, jumped over the White House fence and invaded the White House. Officials had previously said that Gonzalez was tackled just inside the front doors. However, a new report by Washington Post states that Gonzalez overpowered an officer at the front door and made it all the way to the East Room before being tackled by guards.
Gonzalez was allegedly carrying a knife, and had a hatchet and ammunition inside of his car. Secret Service is being questioned and prompted for allowing the man to breach security and get so far inside the White House.
Apparently White House staff had requested for the alarm system to be muted, and the guard at the front door was not immediately notified of the intruder.

When I first read this article last week, I hadn't thought much of it: I assumed the man was just a radical guy who wanting to see the inside of the White House. But with this new report, and the fact that he had weapons in his possession, suddenly I am much more alert and shocked at the lax state of security. Why was the alarm muted in the first place? What if Gonzalez had been able to initiate a serious attack? Hopefully the Secret Service will fix this lag in communication and be more on top of the security.

Jaylon Mobley, 5th Period// In Trump Attacks, Clinton Finds Her Voice

Summary: As the campaigning process has gone on over the past months, Hilary Clinton, Democratic has struggled to find the one message and love that were to set off the edge for her against her fellow mate, Bernie Sanders. However, recently, in California, all of that was much challenged when she shifted focus directly to Donald Trump. Speech after speech in California, she points out that he is and has been a bully that is eager to take the money of those Americans voting for him, or not. This could be a turning point in the campaign for Clinton in that, after all, half, if not more of American citizens are women.

Analysis: I believe that this recent event is a strong and influential happening in the works of the furthering for women in this country. For years, long ago, I'm sure as we all know, women did not have a voice in anything but whether or not the have chicken for dinner that night for her husband, and often times, I'm sure not even that. So for a woman to be able to run for president for one, and begin to truly find her voice in the face of adversity of the same problem that ruled this country for years and caused the aforementioned plight of the social life for women in the United States, white men, white, powerful, rich men. I am eager to see where this new found discovery takes Clinton and the campaign.

Teresita lopez 3rd Flappy disc for nuclear force

In  the 1970 computer sistems started to evolve and as this happened the nuclear force never stop using the  8 in flappy disc. It's resourceful and it still works. As technological innovations keep evolving the US nuclear force stays with the same technology. Many US forces have up to date technology, and this nuclear force will up date its technology in 2020. Do you think that it would be better to keep all the information on a large disk that only stores 15sec. of audio?

Tajia Stroud (5th Period): Why Antarctic Sea Ice Isn't Shrinking***

Summary***
Scientists have found two tenacious geological factors as to why Antarctic Ice has been melted to nothing quite yet. First the topography of Antarctica is affecting winds and currents that drive the formation, and second, the evolution of the sea ice cover and help sustain it. Older, rougher, and thicker ice appeared in the Bellingshausen Sea surrounding Antarctica. The ice in this region is approximately 33 feet thick.

Analysis***
I think that even though thicker and tougher ice has been found in and around Antarctica, it shouldn't make us feel like we should continue the same practices. I think that issues such as global warming and pollution are still serious problems that could damage the planet severely in the future. We should preserve the amazing parts of the earth that we still have and try even harder to reduce the amount of unnecessary, dangerous waste that we produce on a day to day basis.

French police have raided Google’s Paris offices as part of an investigation into “aggravated tax fraud” and money laundering, authorities said Tuesday. This is a case of MAJOR tax evasion. “These searches are the result of a preliminary investigation opened on June 16, 2015 relative to aggravated tax fraud and organized money laundering following a complaint from French fiscal authorities,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. “

Tax evasion evidently used to be very easy to get away with. Al Capone is a good example of this. He managed to play the right cards and get away with it for a very long time, now that advanced computers exist, maybe more and more hacking can take place.

One Dead, Suspects At Large In Novato Double Shooting
One person was dead and a second was injured in a shooting reported in Novato Wednesday evening, according to a Marin County sheriff’s lieutenant. The instigator has not yet been found.
Novato police responded and found the victim, who was transported to a hospital. They also determined the crime likely took place in an open space area on a nearby hillside, in the sheriff’s office’s jurisdiction.

Violence is america is alive and well. Events like this always shock me, people seem to have an obsession with violence and see it as some kind of purge. Violence in the world will never be haulted, and it will never be stopped. Alot of things seem to result to violence and we will never really know all of the true motives.

http://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2016-05-20/vietnams-contrasts-will-confront-obama

This article is about Obama's upcoming visit to Vietnam. He will be only the third president to do so since the Vietnam war. Many skeptics do not expect any major results or changes from this visit. Even though official diplomatic relations were repaired in 1995, the negative attitudes of the Vietnam war are still heavy. Obama will be discussing trade policies and potential embargoes. The United States is very critical of and concerned about the condition of human rights in Vietnam and Obama will be attempting to make progress alongside the HRW (Human Rights Watch).

This is just one of countless examples of the United States going against one of the two pieces of advice in George Washington's Farewell Address. He told the country not to get involved in foreign affairs, and for better or for worse, we did exactly what he told America not to. I believe that one of the United State's main reasons for constantly butting in where we aren't invited is a matter of pride. America as a country generally believes that it is better bigger stronger and wiser than everyone else and that the entire world needs us to swoop in a save them by taking over. America has a bit of trouble being open minded towards other countries idea of a successful government and in turn we try to force our structure onto them.We did the same thing before trying to intervene and prevent communism and it led to the Vietnam war.

"State Dept. inspector general report sharply criticizes Clinton’s email practices"
The State Department’s independent watchdog has issued a highly critical analysis of Hillary Clinton’s email practices while running the department, concluding that Clinton failed to seek legal approval for her use of a private server and that agency staff members would not have given their blessing if it had been sought because of “security risks.” So it essentially sounds like he is claiming Clinton has committed treason.

This is a pretty huge claim. While Hillary is a presidential candidate, which pretty much sets you up to be berated by all your competitors. Everyone will try to seek your every flaw. Some will be bigger than others. This has happened all throughout history.

A group of workers have found a casket of a young girl while renovating a house.Karner is living in Idaho while the work is being done. She told KPIX 5 it’s the casket of a little girl believed to have been buried 120 years ago. There are no identifying marks, so they decided to nickname her “Miranda.”

This is very creepy. I think we might have a myth on our hands. Back in the 1930s, the rest of the Odd Fellows Cemetery went to Colma. That’s because the city ordered every burial ground in San Francisco to be dug up and all the bodies moved." This is very unusual, maybe this is true, maybe this was an unsolved murder.

A Nationwide Gun Regisrty Is Coming Sooner Than You Think!- Randi Thompson

The names and addresses of gun owners in Hawaii could be placed in an FBI database if a landmark bill there becomes law, and it would alert state officials if a gun owner was arrested anywhere in the U.S., even if the crime did not involve a gun.
The bill in the state legislature would place all information about gun owners in the database, which is maintained by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division.
Significantly, gun owners will be required to pay a fee for their name to be put in the system, AP reported. The so-called Rap Back database allows law enforcement to check the backgrounds of professionals like school teachers. If it passes, it would allow, for example, New York to discover if a Hawaii resident arrested in the Empire State owned a gun.
“I don’t like the idea of us being entered into a database. It basically tells us that they know where the guns are, they can go grab them,” Jerry Ilo, a firearm and hunting instructor in Hawaii, told AP. “We get the feeling that Big Brother is watching us.”
Supporters hope other states pass similar bills. The Hawaii attorney general supports the proposal.

IPhone 7 release- Sam Stromness 1st period

The iPhone 7 has been announced and has a far off seeming release date: fall, 2017. The phone will feature a screen with more advanced lighting technology to produce more vibrant and comprehensive coloring. Apple notes the phone will be secure from the threat to privacy the recent case (about the San Bernadino terrorists' phones) posed. The upgrade will also feature faster performance, an improved camera lens, and increased durability.

analysis- This article shows off the extremely consumerist nature of American culture. An article about such minor improvements to a product that won't be made for over a year highlights our wasteful attitudes and our accustomization to excess that is a consequence of industrialization and mass production in America. The industrial revolution enabled the low-cost mass production of goods. This made products easily accessible to the majority of the population shaping our current relationship with technology and other mass produced goods.

Scientists confused by increasing artic ice levels- Sam Stromness 1st

Scientists were puzzled by the increasing levels of seasonal ice they've been observing that seemed to be incongruent with heavily corroborated data showing the consistent rise in average arctic temperatures since the 1950's. However, after further investigation into the recent pattern, scientists have found a plausible explanation for the correlation between increasing ice and rising temperatures. Research fond that an ozone hole over Antartica affects atmospheric conditions in the region by amplifying the strength of certain arctic winds. These winds are further perpetuated by ridges on the seafloor that closely align with the current's path. The growing strength of these winds has lowered the salinity in portions of the arctic where seasonal ice is produced. Because higher salt content lowers the temperature water will freeze at, historically, arctic waters have required lower temperatures to freeze than they do now. With a higher freezing temperature, the arctic water is able to increase its ice production in conjunction, instead of conflict, with the region's rising temperatures.

analysis- This unforeseen phenomenon shows the unpredictable nature of the growing threat of global warming. In the past, century global warming has heavily affected American legislation in relation to emission regulations and other environmental acts. Seeing the erratic nature of this problem demonstrated in this article, poses a potential for future environmental consequences global warming could have on America.

Trump Campaigning like its 1990 Alora Lieck

Trump has been bringing up old dormant scandals, and personally attacking the Clintons.  His goal is apparently to link the clintons to the old scandals and tear down Hillary’s campaign as well as try to make Americans think that a return of a Clinton in office would be a return to unsavory days. This baggage has always haunted the Clintons since the Monica Lawinski scandal came to a conclusion (SYNTHESIS) Case in point: a new Instagram video that that Trump is allegedly behind pictures Bill Clinton chomping on a cigar and revives claims of wrongdoing against him by several women, which ends with the sound of Hillary Clinton laughing and a slogan: "Here we go again?"
Personally I think the reason Trump is bringing up all this old scandals is because he has exhausted every other argument he has against the Clintons… So Trump lets challenge you to actually come up with a valid and CURRENT argument.

Google's self-driving car may be equipped with "Human flypaper"- Sam Stromness 1st period

An interesting report from Silicon Valley has released information about a recently approved patent by Google, relating to the "self-driving cars" they are currently developing. Recognizing the intrinsic risk for pedestrian related collisions that is associated with any vehicle, Google devised an rather unorthodox solution to minimize, both quantity and severity of, the injuries a pedestrian would sustain in the event of a collision. Currently, in pedestrian-vehicle accidents, the person hit is usually carried forward by the hood of the car until the driver brakes or slows; the victim's persisting momentum will typically continue propelling them along the car's previous trajectory, until they intersect with pavement or another similarly imminent obstacle. This second, more forceful strike, resulting from the victim being launched off a car's front (and into the ground), is usually far more injurious than the damage inflicted by the car's initial blow. In response, Google has devised a protective mechanism to be applied to the front portion of their cars that functions much like a seat belt for thepersonbeinghit hampering the ability of forward momentum to cause any additional trauma. This mechanism is affectivly "Human flypaper". The feature is essentially a sticky coating that would adhear the object (usually person) of collision to the hood of the car so they dont fly forward encuring aditional injuries. The adhesive would have an eggshell like coating that would require substansial force to break thereby activating the adhesive.

analysis: This new advancment by google demonstrates the "technological revolution" we are in and is the product of us living during a time with a historically unprecidented rate of advancement especially in the field of technology. Much like many of the movements during the industrial revolution, we are in a period where we are struggling to impliment saftey measures that keep pace with our rate of industry progress.

Jaylon Mobley, 5th Period// Death Penalty for Racist Shooter

Recently, a shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina church that killed nine African American parishioners last June. The shooter was a white man, Dylan Roof, with a racially charged motive. At the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June, 17, 2015, Roof opened fire during a Bible study. He is now charged with 33 crimes. Prosecutors of the situation are delaying the trial in order to figure out whether or not they should seek the death penalty. If they decide to not ask for the death penalty, defense attorneys have stated that Roof will plead guilty, and rightfully so.

The main cause of concern and debate for the issue is the possible result of the death penalty for the alleged shooter. This is a particularly controversial matter of subject. I personally feel that considering white people, for so long, have been unblind to color in the instance of determining the death penalty for black people and relatively minor crimes, the same should not be overlooked for the instance of white. For years, white supremacy has taken on the habit to automatically over-rule the death penalty in the instance of white crime, and in a world and time where the deep hatred for black people should very well have subsided, and it has not, it deserves death.

Jaylon Mobley, 5th Period// Your Food Labels are Getting a Revamp!!

Our country's first lay has recently made an announcement of the the FDA's approval to revamp the food labels on all of out consumer products. Now we are all aware, I'm sure that Michelle Obama is no stranger to the concern of America's health. She is hoping that these new improvements, including: bolder fonts for such serving sizes, etc. the explanation of some of the commonly unknown ingredients and additives will aid in the betterment of the statistically 2/3'rds of American citizens that are either overweight or obese.

The first lady, Michelle Obama's concern for Americas health is refreshing after years of unhealthy lifestyle for American citizens. This reminds me of the beginning of the FDA an the meaning of what it was made for. For years the FDA only "approved" what foods to eat and what drugs to take. But i personally feel that now id the time to really EDUCATE the consumers of Americans instead of telling them what they can and cannot eat and take.

Bernie Sanders in California- Zoe Klimaszewski

Source:http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/clinton-sanders-head-for-all-out-blitz-in-california-primary/

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has been trailing behind former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, since before the primaries began. With the primaries closing this June in California, both Democratic nominee hopefuls are competitively campaigning. However, Sanders believes he can catch up. He's holding multiple rallies everyday in order to try and connect with the common folks of the sunshine state.
I, for one, believe that he could. His rhetoric is impressive and moving, and does anyone remember the 2008 elections? President Obama trailed behind alarmingly, and yet Clinton is not currently the president. Of course, only time can tell as to who will win the nomination this summer.

American Gun Laws: How we compare- Zoe Klimaszewski

Source:http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/01/worldwide-gun-control-policy/423711/

https://www.loc.gov/law/help/firearms-control/switzerland.php

Gun laws have been a controversial topic in recent years, especially since the tragedy that happened in 2012 in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Across the United States, while the federal government has set minimum standards, each state has further laws that are either more strict or more lenient. Many Republicans are rallying under the Second Amendment, often having Switzerland as an example of a first-world country where everyone owns a gun.

However, we don't need to turn abroad to Europe for good examples of gun laws. In Canada, it is more involved to obtain a gun, including a background check and public safety course. Many arms are actually prohibited and you must get a permit from the Canadian Mounties in order to obtain one (automatics).

Believe it or not, the gun-related crimes have actually gone down since the 1990's; needless to say, this doesn't look good. Do you know how many mass shootings America has had in the past year alone? 372 in only 2015. Should we follow Canada's example, as they're basically a better version of America, or Switzerlands, where all ammunition is kept at the shooting range and the gun laws are incredibly strict?

Layla Maynard: Whole Foods Feelin Some Heat

Summary: Whole Foods, after stocks decrease, prices increase and number of consumers slowly evaporate, has tried to regain some of their popularity by opening new 365 stores across the nation. With more and more competition from other specialty stores like Trader Joe's and price comparison with places like Kroger or Target, Whole Foods has really been struggling.

Analysis: It's hard to want to support places like Whole Foods, who do a fairly decent job of providing healthy, humanely acquired foods, but also jack prices way up and make it harder to commence everyday shopping in comparison to Walmart. Especially since my mother does the shopping in my family, I have little input into what we consume and where it's from.

He's considered very armed/dangerous and police are offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with useful information as the manhunt continues.

Analysis: This type of story always Brings up the topic of gun control and how the right to bear arms should be practiced or intervened by the us government. I wonder how many stories like these we will have to read until we are ready and willing to make a difference.

11-year-old signs deal with Whole Foods -Zoe Klimaszewski

Source: http://www.theroot.com/blogs/the_grapevine/2016/03/_11_year_old_lands_lemonade_contract_with_whole_foods.html

When appearing on Shark Tank with her business idea, Mikaila Ulmer scored a business deal to get her grandmothers lemonade recipe manufactured. Whole Foods, seeing promise in her BeeSweet Lemonade, signed a deal with her. The reason this is so great is that it highlights bees as a helpful species and also supports local bee farms. With her profits, Ulmer donates a portion to organizations and charities that work to protect and save honeybees.
This is very important as bees are dying, and last year 40% of beekeeper hives were lost. Should bees go extinct, the human race could kiss life goodbye as we would only survive about four years, according to Albert Einstein.

Layla Maynard: Too Close To Home

Summary: A few weeks ago, a woman in her early thirties walked up to a woman filling up her tank at a gas station in Highland Park. At first, the woman denied the request to hand over her purse, but when a knife was pulled out, the suspect reached into the car, in which there was a young boy, and took the purse. There were no injuries reported. After taking the purse, the woman drove off in a black Dodge Challenger. She was later seen on surveillance video attempting to use stolen credit cards. Authorities still have not been able to confirm the identity of the woman seen in surveillance videos.

Analysis: I had talked to my mom about this incident earlier this evening; this gas station is only a mile from my house, and a two minute walk from the pool I work at every summer. Some of my coworkers and I even walk past this gas station before or after shifts to get lunch at nearby restaurants. The fact that this happened so close to me was just startling. Especially since there's not much authorities can do to prevent this sort of thing from happening. And considering the fact that Highland Park is known for being a relatively safe neighborhood.

Caught in Hypocrite Ways? -Ava Cosentino pd.1

Summary:
Current Democratic party front runner candidate Hillary Clinton, attacked Donald Trump Tuesday for saying and doing some seemingly hypocritical things. Clinton talks about how Republican candidate Trump claims to be a defendant for the mass middle class Americans, but at the same time, digs out some statements made by Trump about a decade before that might prove these claims to be a ploy.

Analysis:
Although Trump does some very questionable things and did certainly say these things about ten years ago, are these statements even relevant to this specific period of time, or is Clinton only trying to find things that she can use to further bag on Trump and his campaign? Personally, I do not support Trump and his presidential plans, however views can change, and was it important for Clinton to resurface this information?

Layla Maynard: Innocent Man Killed Trying to Help

Summary: In North Carolina at the start of the New Year, 25 year old suspect Marvin Lee seemed to be driving under the influence when he slid off an icy road and was left stranded. Later, Jefferson Heavner sees Lee's car and gets out to help. After Lee resists assistance, and Heavner realizes he might be intoxicated, a call to the police is made. This is when Lee gets a pistol out of his car, walks over to Heavner, and shoots him multiple times, killing Heavner. Lee then gets back into his stuck car and waits there until police authorities show up and take him into custody. His court date was set for Monday, January 21, 2016.

Analysis: Not only is this story upsetting to read because it goes back to the controversial issue of gun control, but it also keeps many from helping people and families stuck on the side of the road when help really is needed. The more stories you read about someone dying when attempting to merely help someone in need, the less likely the general public is to continue to help those people/families. This is also scary for us because a recent law was put into effect on January 1st of the new year, making it legal for licensed people to open carry firearms in Texas. You would have thought that the alarming amount of stories like these or recent school shootings would advise against passing said law, but Apparently not.

President Obama Visits Vietnam

President Obama recently visited Vietnam to speak out against communism and the lack of human rights. The comparison between the state of human rights in the U.S. and those in this one-party Communist country that still holds political prisoners and censors news broadcasts seems to be a bit of a stretch, but Obama told the crowd that no country is perfect. While he did not directly address the Vietnam war he did mention relations between the US and the country. Given the opened up trade agreement this visit was necessary to defuse any aggression towards America.
Personally I agree with the timing of this visit, it opens up better foreign relations and potential relations in the future with more parts of China and Russia. This relates back to the foreign trade agreement and the Vietnam considering both were vaguely mentioned and were causes of this meeting.

North Carolina Bathroom Laws- Zoe Klimaszewski

Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/24/us/north-carolina-to-limit-bathroom-use-by-birth-gender.html?_r=0

We've all hear about the ridiculous laws passed by North Carolina Governor, Pat McCrory, but we don't know everything. Apparently, it was an anti-discrimmination law that plainly left out any and all members of the LGBTQAI+ community, evidently encouraging homophobia in the state. Another horrendous thing its done is to ban local governments from raising the minimum wage even a cent above the state level.
Supporters of this law say that it's to protect women and children from being assaulted in restrooms to lower the sexual assault rates, but is this true? To be frank, no. There are 18 states that have non-discrimination laws protecting transgender people from discrimination, and they have seen no rise in sex-related crimes.
What this law will probably do in North Carolina is raise the sex-related crime rates, due to 'corrective-rape', where the rapist rapes the victim in an effort to have them conform to society's views.
These non-discrimination laws are encroaching on queer people's basic human rights (freedom of expression), and last time I checked, that was unconstitutional.

Layla Maynard: Son Shoots zbrother; Father Arrested

Summary: Michael Santiago, former gang member, was charged with "felony child endangerment" for illegally buying a gun and hiding it in his home. The gun was bought after Santiago had testified against another gang member, and was intended to be used for protection. His six year old son found the gun hidden in his kitchen, and accidentally shot his three year other brother during a game of cops and robbers. The child was taken to Norwegian American Hospital and later moved to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died.

Analysis: Though it seems like the father had good intentions when buying the gun, it's obviously not safe to keep a loaded gun in a household with young, curious children. It's hard to say whether this scenario falls under child endangerment, or deals more with the reoccurring issue of gun control. Although this isn't anything like what we've seen in the past, almost always mass school shootings, this incident adds to the list of arguments about why America might have to rethink our "right to bear arms."

Uber Driver Stabbed | Jillian Linnear P.8

An Uber driver was stabbed the other night in Bellflower, California whilst picking up his customers. The driver claimed that he had got out that night to open the door for the passengers when a group surrounded him asking for money, when he denied they got mad so another individual tried to jump in and help. The night went on and he felt a pressure in his back and he realized he had been stabbed, soon after he found out that the other individual that tried to help him had been stabbed too. The driver says he will driver for Uber again once he has recovered but is still shaken up by the violence taking over the world right now. This is a very important article because it is true, the world is becoming increasingly violent. Especially, with these cab services such as Uber, Lyft ad more. Services like these are dangerous for both the driver and the passenger, this incident merely serves as a warning to both.

America Was Never Great Controversy- Zoe Klimaszewski

Source: http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2016/05/home_depot-workers_america_was_never_great_hat.html

We all know that Trump, and his supporters, are patriotic; in fact, Trump's slogan is "Make America great again." He is also very much the sort of person to get in your face about his opinions and beliefs, a trait that many of his supporters share, often exclaiming something along the lines of "Freedom of speech!". However, when somebody dares to not agree with you and exercise their own right to freedom of speech, they get slandered for it.
Krystal Lake, a Home Depot worker, wore a hate to work, which said "America was never great", clearly a parody of Trump's oft-quoted slogan.
It is clear to me that the republicans who support Trump are not only misogynistic, Islamphobic, racist, and homophobic, are also hypocrites. By saying that this young woman has no right to voice her opinion on this country's dark beginnings (slavery of blacks and genocide of Native Americans), while her co-workers are allowed to support Trump openly at work, they are also repressing her right to speak her mind.

Within the greenhouse spiders, almost 40 of them, live peacefully in dense foliage and sun light. Here Vollrath is able to understand and study the organism. What he has learned has changed many fields including architecture, space travel, and the largest being medicine. Today the discoveries he is making are being used in the bandage branch PF things. What he has learned is that spider web is biodegradable and biocompatible with most living things, making it the perfect dressing to most wounds. In fact he sawed that web could even be taken straight from the spider and it would dissolve as the wound healed.

ANALYSIS: Because of this discovery scientists including Vollrath, may now have an alternative bandage supply. One that takes little energy to make (on he spiders part) and one that creates little to no waste. Another benefit is that the waste created is also decomposable making it the perfect alternative to plastic band-aids and such.

Layla Maynard: California Terrorist Attack

Summary: Tashfeen Malik declared her allegiance to the leader of ISIS on the day of the massacre in California. Although there is no clear line showing the involvement of ISIS in the attack, it is suggested that the terrorist group ordered the attack. The attack, which took place at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, ended with fourteen killed and twenty one injured. The shooters, Malik and her husband, died in a police shootout after the attack. It is said that Malik was living in Saudi Arabia when she met her husband and was a stay at home mom. The couple left their six month old daughter at home with her grandmother the day of the shooting.

Analysis: Other sources I've read have also told me that the victims of the shooting held a baby shower for the couple just months before the shooting took place. I honestly don't know what to make of this or how to move forward. There doesn't seem to be a clear solution to any of the problems revolving ISIS or other terrorist groups, especially when we remember that situations like this happen on a regular basis, whether it's on American soil or overseas.

Donald Trump poised to win in Washington state- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- Presumptive nominee Trump has an expected win in Washington, which will move him closer to the GOP nomination. He only needs 48 delegates more out of the required 1,237 delegates to become the nominee.

Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights passed by Senate- Zoe Klimaszewski

Source: http://www.refinery29.com/2016/05/111776/senate-passes-sexual-assault-survivors-bill-of-rights

Rape is more common than one might think; one in every ten women and one out of every forty-five men have been coerced into sex. This atrocious act affects their life as a whole, 81% of women and 35% of men who have experienced rape have reported PTSD. However, on May 23, the Senate passed the first Bill of Rights for Sexual Assault survivors. What this bill will do, if made into a law by the House of Representatives, is give rights to those who have reported their rape, which include the preservation of rape kits, and being notified to any tests or destruction of said rape kits. What this bill means is that the system is finally shaping up, the victims who have been speaking out against rape are finally being heard.
If this bill is made into a law, it means we have a better chance of rapists being convicted, and more victims could speak out about their stories, as only about 30% of victims ever report. This could mean a safer future for America, with more rapists behind bars.

ISIS might have destroyed Russian helicopters at base- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- 4 helicopters and 20 lorries were destroyed last week, and the evidence points to ISIS. There were several explosions across the base, and that the helicopters were in an area that had seen fighting between Russia and ISIS. The only thing that keeps officials from being sure is that ISIS hasn't outright claimed the attacks yet.
Analysis- This could be compared to what happened to the USS Maine before the Spanish American War, where Americans just accused the Spanish. Unlike that though, we actually have some evidence. The issue is that there could be a million other groups in the region, or just a lone wolf. The evidence says this was intentional, but it doesn't specifically say ISIS

Political Bribes? - Ava Cosentino pd. 1

Summary:
The two United States President candidate front runners, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, have both been accused to have been caught up in a "Pay and Play" political bribe situation. Both of these politicians scams both had to do with some type of fundraiser for their campaigns.

Analysis:
Reading this article on Yahoo made me question who we have running for the up coming election. Saying this I mean, how dishonest are these two, and is it true that they will truly do anything to outrun their opponents, even if it comes to being very dishonest? Specifically the article says that the Trump campaign has pleaded guilty to doing this to bribe New York Officials. Will this be a matter that just gets blown over, or further looked into?

Greece clears thousands of refugees from tent city on border- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- Greece has began to relocate all the refugees camping out on their borders to organized facilities. The refugees(about 8000)were camping out outside the city of Idomeni. They are being taken out by bus. Most of the refugees have come from places like Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraqi, escaping the poverty and wars. Some people are concerned about the condition of the facilieties the people are being relocated to.
Analysis- I'm glad that the Greeks have been helping the refugees, but i am also concerned the with condition of the facilities. The Refugees have already been through a lot, and having run-down and healthy conditions shouldn't be a concern of theirs. This is like what happened to immigrants during the gilded and progressive age, where tons of people, escaping poverty and war, were forced into tiny, unhealthy apartments.

Trump Moneyman Gets Shady- Carlos Joglar

Source: https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-moneyman-shady-history-000000205.html

In 2009, one of six vice-chairs of the "Trump Leadership Team" pled guilty to criminal charges including bribery. Elliot Broidy is charged with spending around $1 million in bribing New York State officials. While he should've received a 4 year jail sentence, it was reduced to misdemeanor because of his cooperation in his 2010 investigation. Trump defended him, refusing to actually address Broidy and simply payed acknowledgements to his team.

Donald Trump is, if you didn't already know, fake. He's simply fake. And not only does he spread misogyny, racism, islamophobia, hate, and ever changing stances on policies, he is also backed by, essentially, criminals. These men have bribed New York officials for $250 million in endorsements. The American Public should be outraged by this. It almost appears as though Trump is trying to develop a political monopoly, reminiscent of FDR's Court Packing. Of course, FDR was actually a good president, but it seems strange that the American public was more outraged by a good president's actions than Trump's actions. Now, it seems our duty as Americans is less to elect the best president and more to keep Trump out of office.

This is a great example of how civil rights are yet not fully granted, and this is something that African Americans experienced when they were looking for there rights. US sends forces to liberate Raqqa- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- Syrian and US forces are launching a campaign to liberate areas north of Raqqa, the de-facto capital of ISIS, with hopes of capturing the city.  Heavy weaponry and troops have already entered the region, and have begin to free the civilians. They hope to isolate the city to force ISIS out. Russia might help with the US/Syrian forces.
Analysis- This is very similar to most of the cold war fighting, where American troops come in to help(try to at least) and install democracy. I think its good that America Syria, and possibly Russia are trying to help.

Possible Death Sentence for Dylann Roof- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- Dylann Roof, a (white)man  stands trial for shooting nine (black)church goers, might get the death sentence. Prosecutors accuse the crime of being a ``racially motivated massacre'', and have the evidence to support it, as his computer was full of racial slurs. The church, Emanual AME, is a historical church in Charleston that held a slave rebellion, and later, a civil rights group. The families of the victims support the prosecutors decision.
Analysis- The hate crime is just like the hate crimes that went on during the civil rights movement, when black people were randomly and violently attacked for no real reason.

Death Penalty for Racist Shooter- Carlos Joglar

Source: https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-prosecutors-seek-death-penalty-south-carolina-church-212459180.html

Many heard the news of the shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina church that killed nine African American parishioners last June. The shooter was a white man, Dylan Roof, with a racially charged motive. At the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June, 17, 2015, Roof opened fire during a Bible study. He is now charged with 33 crimes. Today, prosecutors are delaying the trial in order to figure out wether or not they should seek the death penalty. If they decide to not ask for the death penalty, defense attorneys have stated that Roof will plead guilty.

This is a very complex issue. I personally do not believe that death is a just punishment for the murder of 9. Death for death does not solve anything. There is even controversy within the families of the victims. One son of one of the murdered parishioners made the assertion that his death would make a good statement that America does not stand for this behavior. Another family member of another victim stated the opposite; he felt that the Roof's death wasn't just and, because it is condemned by the Bible, would go against the wishes of the victims. Of course, it would be difficult to speak on behalf of the deceased, his argument makes sense. Historically, black people have often been, for lack of a better term, screwed over by the judicial system, as evident by cases such as the Scottsboro boys. So, it would seem that condemning the killer to the death penalty would send the message that this racially charged terrorism is not tolerated by the U.S. However, with recent controversy over the just nature of the death penalty, the opposite could just as easily be argued.

Greece Begins Evacuating Thousands Of Asylum-Seekers From Camp- Tori Gilchrist, 1st period

Syrian refugees in Greece have been living in camps with terrible living conditions. Most families live in tents, pitched on ground that turns to slick mud after rain. There have been outbreaks of lice, respiratory infections, and one child got food poisoning from a sandwich that was provided to her from volunteer groups. They are being bused to formal, more habitable refugee camps that are run by the army. The evacuation of the Idomeni camp  was run by Greek police and didn't have any kind of violent outbreak.

It's good that refugees are being helped and treated humanely. I haven't done a current event in nine weeks. Time to bs five more of these! Stay tuned.

Three Alabama Scandals- Cameron Eisenberg

Article- Governor Robert Bentley, accused of affairs with a former staffer and using public funds to hide it. Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, accused of using government power to obtain favors to benefit himself and his business. Chief Justice Roy Moore, accused of ignoring federal ruling about same-sex marriages. All three of this Alabamian men are being accused of said crimes at the same time. All three are powerful men from their states.
Analysis-  This is just sad. This kind of behavior is the reason why politicians are stereo typically untrustworthy. This is just like the Watergate scandal with Nixon, or Clinton`s affair with the women in the White house, A public official misuses power and lies about it. How are we supposed to trust our Representatives and senators and other government officials?

Savannah Boyack - Bernie Sanders: Disney is not such a happy place for its workers

http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/la-na-trailguide-05242016-sanders-rails-against-disney-1464131378-htmlstory.html

While giving speeches in Southern California, Bernie Sanders has used Disney's employee wages as an example of economic inequality. He stated that "Disney pays its workers wages that are so low that many of them are forced to live in motels because they cannot afford a decent place to live." It has been known that Disney employees have called for increased wages with help form unions. It's because of situations like this that Sanders says that "His campaign is listening to people who are not often listened to."

I'm glad that Bernie is bringing to attention problems like this. I, for one, didn't know about Disney employees low wages. I didn't think they were high but I thought they were at least average. It kind of sucks hearing stuff like that about the "Happiest Place on Earth". All I've got to say is that hope Bernie doesn't make to many enemies. If he wants to have a chance at becoming president, or even Democratic candidate, he's going to need to spend more time making friends instead of bashing huge companies who have the power to take away his support systems.

Dylann Roof Will Face Federal Death Penalty in Charleston Church Killings by Savannah Boyack

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/25/us/dylann-roof-will-face-federal-death-penalty-in-charleston-church-killings.html?_r=0

Dylann Roof is facing death penalty charges from multiple prosecutors. He has two defense lawyers who have neglected to comment. But it has been stated by others that Roof has shown "a lack of remorse" and had "targeted men and women participating in a Bible study group at the church to magnify the societal impact". His state court trial is expected to begin in January.

It would be no surprise to me if Dylann Roof got the death penalty. But it does rise the question of why this man is facing severe charges for killing African-Americans in a hate-crime fashion while cops who shot and kill unarmed African-american teenagers barely receive any form of punishment. Roof's case was clearly racially motivated and took place in a church. Most of the cop cases have resulted in the deaths of black teens, kids under the age of 18 so they were legally minors. Though Roof's case may be a more severe case of racial discrimination, there have been multiple recent cases of the latter.

Beckett Galloway- $1,000 for Missing Goats (which isn't enough money in my opinion)

In Franktown, Colorado a poor man is the victim of Kid-napping. But it wasn't his children who were stolen, no. It was his goats. Doug Casto had awoken one morning to find his few-day-old baby goats gone and is now offering a $1000 reward to whoever can return them to his care.
   When asked to talk about his feeling on the matter Doug said;

"Anger, and sadness"

   This poor man just really wants his goats back, both him and his wife are heartbroken and hope to find the goats soon. When asking the mother of the stolen kids how she felt she said the following statement;

"Bleeeegghhhh!"

With no signs of break-ins or coyote attacks the police have narrowed down the suspects to the Chupacabra, though no effort has been made to arrest him.

Mr. Pygott was-is the Woodshop teacher at Bothell High School, by all accounts he seems to be a friendly, credible teacher with no particular record of violence or crime. However, recently an attempted Murder/Attack was made on Pygott's life.
According to his accounts, Pygott was at school later in the evening than usual working in his Woodshop when supposedly he was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object, causing major (though not brain-damaging) injuries to his skull.
When Pygott awoke, there was a tight zip-tie around his neck, which, mind you, is a very poor choice of murder weapon, and after struggling, Pygott managed to make it outside where he flagged down help. Now he is is in the hospital recovering with an ongoing investigation at his heels.

     After being called out by Hilary Clinton, Republican candidate Donald Trump makes a very bold statement on proposed Gun Laws in the US;

"I don't want to have guns in classrooms, although in some cases teachers should have guns in classrooms,"

Once again, Trump awes the crowd with his pervasive idiocy and unawareness of human life other than himself. Trump vowed to end the "Gun Free Zones" in schools (and we all know how well guns and school environments mix; what with America being number one in Mass and Domestic Shootings)
After hearing Hilary's statement, Trump went live on FOX News and responded with a muttered half-answer that somehow managed to both confirm and deny the accusation.

Beckett Galloway- Chaos in Belgium Prisons

All the world is terribly aware of the nightmarish terrorist attacks plaguing Belgium, however, very few people stop to think of how this is affecting the situations in the prisons throughout the country. The recent influx of prisoners have thrown the country's prison into anarchy.
Prison guards have been on strike for weeks on end, demanding a higher pay for their thankless job. While their meaning is to do well for themselves and their family, it has put the country's prison into shock. The understaffed prison has released over ten prisoners due to the unhealthy and uninhabitable conditions.
With the government refusing to replace retired guards, at one point there had been about 1,000 prisoners per 10 guards, unlike the usual 100 guards. This situation, with the prisoners living in such awful conditions, makes one think of Dorthea Dix, who reformed prisons and mental health facilities in America.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/24/opinions/bernie-or-bust-and-lessons-of-1968-opinion-lubet-bendat/index.html

This article describes how, increasingly, Bernie Sander's supporters claim that if Bernie doesn't get the party nomination, they refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton, a fellow democrat. Their rationale is that they hate Hillary and feel she would be an untrustworthy president.

This compares to the 1960s when the hippies were protesting war. In 1968 the election Humprey and Nixon were the two candidates with a third party man named George Wallace. Although Humphrey had a past of supporting civil rights and was anti-war, young liberals were repulsed and did not vote, resulting in Nixon as president. If forced to choose, Nixon, a rabid conservative, would be the last  choice.

Moral of the story: Young Liberals need to suck it up and vote for the party leader if they really care about the future of this country

Zoe Norton-Rodriguez --- SLEEPING ON THE JOB

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/23/us/greyhound-investigation/index.html

Sometimes people fall asleep at work, they may get scolded or fired but in this instance, lives were at stake. A greyhound bus from Cleveland to New York slammed into the back of a trailer, killing one person and injuring many others. The cause is that the driver FELL ASLEEP. Greyhound has instructions to stop every 150 miles and walk around but apparently this is not a rule but simply a guideline. This guideline isn't enforced because it costs them money.

This is similar to how in the industrial revolution, factories wouldn't enforce laws or enact safety procedures because it cost them too much money and they didn't really care about the workers. Gradually a movement was formed to enforce safety and with greyhound this wakeup call will force them to enact serious rules.

This is similar to the war with Vietnam. Obama says he does not want to push the united states agenda onto this country and I have a feeling there will be comparisons to the Vietnam War

U.S Arming Vietnam // Kai Jones 1st period

President Obama has lifted the arms embargo on Vietnam. By doing this the U.S is showing the world that the U.S wants to move past post-war tensions and create closer ties with the region. It also shows that the U.S is willing to get involved in international conflicts in effort to maintain order. Tensions have been rising in the South China Sea since China has become more aggressive in claiming marine territory. More in this article.

I think it is great that the U.S is restablishing their relationship with Vietnam. The U.S has become more and more involved in international issues since World War II.Our nation continues to do what it can to police the world and establish peace where it can. With Obama creating peace with countries we previously had conflict with, it will be much easier to create peace in other nations.

Adriana Hinojosa, 8th, Unexpected Love

I read this story and it made me really happy. These two 12 year olds met in a hospital in Buffalo, NY. They are both cancer patients there. They met due to the massive amounts of time they have to spend there respectively. They instantly became great friends and have now fallen in love. Together, they are able to make the whole process better for one another. They were both getting better, physically, but then relapsed around the same time. While this is sad news, of course, they at least now have each other and have something to look forward to each and every day, each other.

5 Year Old Accidentally Shoots Herself Emily Rosuck

This week, Haley Moore, a 5 year old, accidentally shot herself. Allegedly, Haley's father was in the shower at the time, and when her older siblings found her, they went and told their neighbors. As the neighbor tried to comfort the siblings, her father called for help. County sheriffs say that Haley passed away from her wound in the hospital. Ironically, neighbors describe Moore's father as a "devoted father who is vigilant about gun safety." No one knows exactly how she got a hold of the gun, but neighbors say that this tragedy should spark conversation about the dangers of keeping guns in a house with children. The incident is currently under investigation.

This is not the first time this type of tragedy has occurred, and it most definitely will not be the last. Every day, children all across America are either killed or injured by mishandling of a firearm, often by the child themselves. There have been cases where a sibling accidentally shoots another sibling, or where a baby puts a gun in his mouth, thinking it's a toy. Guns are a serious danger to children and while some argue the right to bear arms, to say that there should be no restrictions on who has guns or where they are stored results in another case like Haley Moore's.  This is like, a few years ago in Chicago, one brother found a gun, thought it was a toy, and accidentally shot his little brother. While one might argue that it is necessary for a child to have exposure to firearms and to grow up knowing it's not a toy, it begs the question: is it worth the risk of a child taking their own life, or sometimes, someone else's?

Cubans Flee to Florida - Bennett Copley 8th

Since October, over 3500 Cubans have made it to the mainland of the United States, allowing them to legally stay in the country, or have been picked up by Coast Guard and returned to Cuba, numbers not scene since the balsero exodus in the '90s. They flee from poor living conditions in their home country to a hopefully better life in America, similar to refugees from eastern Europe in the first half of the 20th century, fleeing poor conditions in warring countries and hoping to find opportunity in America, but they were often greeted harshly by nativists, who ironically were simply the descendants of other immigrants. Cuban immigrants are also treated harshly, as Cubans are lumped into the generalized "definition" (more-so presumtion) of "South America" where "they come to take our jobs from," but most people who aren't generally insensitive and ignorant accept them graciously and welcome them to the country.

"Impeachment" -Aleah Washington 1st period

Impeachment in the U.S. is a power the legislature has that allows them to formally have charges against a civil officer of government for crimes that were committed in office, but the removal of an official upon conviction is separate from actually being impeached. Richard Nixon was unsuccessful in the impeachment process because he resigned from office before the vote of the full House for impeachment. Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton are the only two presidents to have been successfully impeached by the house of Representatives.

The commissioner of the IRS said that Republican allegations that he misled congressional investigators, and said he would not appear at a congressional hearing this week examining whether he deserves to be impeached. He won't successfully be impeached unless the full house votes for him to be out. This is important because it reminds us that people are still can be impeached today like they were back them.

weird organs - Bethany Wolfe 3rd

summary:
Scientists are trying to merge human and farm animal embryos in hopes of reproducing organs for transplants. However, the project's funding has been blocked due to ethical problems and dangerous implications. Some researchers worry that the fusion of a pig, for example, and a human embryo will trigger human brain cell growth in the pig and affect its cognitive state or create a horror movie- like creature that is part pig and part human. For these reasons, scientists still hold the project at bay.
analysis:
This subject is rather funky. The idea in itself sounds beneficial, but when you think of the consequences and implications of the experiments, it seems too far-fetched.

GREYHOUND BUS DRIVER ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL Julia Woltjen (3rd period)

SUMMARY: Recently a Greyhound bus driving from New York to Cincinnati collided into the back of an eighteen wheeler, leaving its driver dead and multiple passengers injured. Passengers including aspiring young opera singer Elora Lencoski. She as well as a friend were on their way back from New York after having met their idol a once glorified opera singer. Now after the crash Elora finds herself wroth a damaged vocal box and many hindering leaving her singing capabilities at an unknown.

ANALYSIS: I feel that this crash is entirely preventable seeing that most passengers boarded the bus and saw their driver with blood shot eyes and a fatigued look, most are thinking that she fell asleep behind the wheel. Elora is now seeing greyhound as a result to the loss of her vocal capabilities and other damages done. The company is beginning to look internally to find a way to allow drivers to get more sleep. If drivers didn't have to drove hours on end at time, crashes like these would become fewer and fewer. Not all crashes can be prevented but these kind can be lessened.

Supreme court denies death sentence in new court case By: Luis Ceja

In a 7-1 decision the supreme court threw out the death penalty assigned to Timothy Tyrone Foster by an all white jury. After the initial decision accusations spread saying that the prosecution worked to get an all white jury specifically targeting race in jury appointment for a specific outcome. This angered many bringing it to the supreme court where it was easily denied in a 7-1 vote. Interestingly enough the one judge against it was clarence thomas the one african american on the court. He is against reversing the decision despite the fact it breaks a 1986 law.

MILLIONS FROM SOUTH AFRICA STOLEN Julia Woltjen (3rd period)

SUMMARY: Recently there was a heist involving a south African bank. Their bank lost a total of close to $13 million, after thieves used over 1600 fake credit cards. Each transactions was the maximum amount and it took over 14,000 individual transactions to complete the feat.

ANALYSIS: I feel that this fraud and crime is very hard to catch because most banks are constantly experiencing thousands of withdrawals and transactions everyday. I don't know how they caught this one honestly. Because all of the transactions were completed in Japan I do feel it was much easier since the epicenter of the bank would have thousands of miles away. This crime relates back to the national bank, the gold standard, and the silver standard. GO APUSH!

Kenley Turner 3rd period- Why Is US Arming Vietnam?

Summey: US lifts a ban on selling weapons to Vietnam as a way of reconciling with the country. However, people are concerned on how this relates to China, as many smaller asian countries wish to rebel against China's rule. Lifting the ban can also create more jobs here and in asia by exporting more goods.

Analysis: I feel like the lift on the ban is a good thing. Nobody is really protesting it, except for people who have concerns about China, but those are just things that people made up to cause an issue honestly. I think it is good for America to consider other countrys economies, because if the world has a healthy economy, America will too.

60% of Tanzanian Elephants Killed by Poachers, Maddie Hanratty 8th

Within the past 5 years, Tanzania has lost 60% of its animal population to poachers, who slaughter these creatures for ivory. Mozambique has also announced the loss of 50% of the native elephant population within the same time period. Tanzania has turned to the use of drones and encourages a shoot-on-sight policy for poachers in an attempt to scare those profitting off this exploitation. Asia is the main customer for ivory sales, and has driven up the demand for the products significantly through a growing upper/middle class, according to the Huffington Post.

The exploitation of elephants in Tanzania/Mozambique is similar to that of the bison in the late 19th century. Hunting the bison for sport became popular through Buffalo Billl's Wild West Show. Bison were also killed in large numbers in efforts to deplete the resources of Native Americans, which would ultimately allow the U.S. Government to take over the land.

NEW ENERGY IN MOROCCO Julia Woltjen (3rd period)

SUMMARY:
A new solar energy plant is being built in the Moroccan desert. This plant is over 30 square kilometers and will be the biggest concentrated solar planet in the world. By doing this the Moroccan government lessens their dependence on the fluctuating price of natural gas, which at the moment is what the country runs on. By doing this the government allows for the rebuilding and strengthening of their economy and future. Morocco is ahead of the game compared to most of the world in their development of renewable energy sources, which in most people's minds is the only future in our energy crisis. With this new source of energy Morocco can solve their current energy issues and hopefully export this energy as well in the future.

ANALYSIS:
I think this plan is incredible and very forward thinking. By doing this Morocco can plan for a safer future and solve their issues now with the unpredictable natural gas energy source. At the moment most of Morocco goes through times of power outages and as one can imagine this can be very troublesome especially in a hospital or any other emergency services. By using renewable energy like solar power, these shortages can be prevented which will allow for an overall growth in their standard of living and their country as well. This reminds me of the American system that was employed in the early United States, which showed that by improving one thing in the country (roads and transport routes) a surge of growth was sure to follow along with major growth in our economy and so on.

Gunman fires into crowd- Nicole Chatham 6th period

This week I read a very sad article about a gunman in Austria that fired into a small crowd attending an open air concert. Police have stated that the overnight shooting was preceded by an argument between a woman and the gunman in a nearby parking lot. As things escalated, the man grabbed a gun from his car and began shooting into the concert venue. Unfortunately, 2 people were killed and 11 were wounded. After returning to the parking lot, the gunman killed himself as well.

Analysis- This is a very sad article to hear about! It is so unfair and awful that these people's lives were ended so fast, based off of one person's bad decision. This article reminds me of the Boston Massacre in U.S. history. The Boston Massacre started off with verbal threats and thrown objects between colonists and British army soldiers. However, it quickly turned, and 5 people were killed while 6 others were injured. While both the events in the article and in the Boston Massacre were not massive in scale, they still ended with the deaths and injuries of several people, and outrage of many.

Opioid prescription down By: Luis Ceja

New figures are showing that over the past couple of years opioid prescriptions have gone down. This is interesting because recently a light has been shown on the growing problem of the opioid epidemic. As death's from opioid overdoses has tripled since 1999 to over 30,000 a year. So these new findings come as a surprise to me. Then how are prescriptions being reduced and how despite them being reduced do opioid overdoses continue to climb. In regards to the reduced prescriptions that falls mainly on state monitoring of prescriptions. Not regulation just plain oversight. As for he increasing overdoses I think that's more a social in many working class white homes and economics as well as reformed treatment will help that.

new labels- Bethany Wolfe

summary:
Michelle Obama has teamed with the FDA in announcing the drastic change to food labels in restaurants and packages. The labels will better define and pinpoint the number of calories, added sugar, and serving size fitting to the current consumer. Also, they will emphasize Potassium and Vitamin D nutrient requirements as the majority of Americans lack them. Therefore, in the next 2 years, labels will look significantly different and hopefully keep the public aware of what they put into their bodies.
analysis:
This change will definitely notify the public of their food intake and promote a healthier lifestyle. It's similar to the Pure Food and Drug act after Upton Sinclair's novel in that food production should change to benefit society's health and well- being.

Virginia Governor under Investigation for possible corrupt campaign contributions-Molly Mitchell 5th

Summary:

Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe is currently under investigation for possible corrupt campaign contributions. This is because of contributions made by a Mr Wang, a non-us born political figure contributing with large sums of money to the Virginia Governors campaign. Currently under the investigation of the FBI, Wang's contributions could prove invalid if he is not considered a proper citizen, and therefore could effectively end McAuliffe's career.

Analysis:

Corruption has always existed in politics, all the way back to old' Hamilton and his bunch. Thats just how it is, the Watergate Scandal the Teapot Dome Scandal, as long as there have been people wanting power there has existed corruption.

Feeding marine life instead of killing -Bethany Wolfe

summary:
Between 40,000 and 110,000 tons of plastic waste in America ends up in the ocean. Saltwater Brewery began producing edible and biodegradable six-pack rings to slow the amount of marine animals dying each year from being captured in the harmful plastic variation. Although there are still obvious design flaws, such as the time it takes for the decomposition process if an animal were trapped in the ring, it holds the possibility of a great alternative and can make a great difference in interaction with marine life.
analysis:
Finally, companies are taking interest in the ways their products impact the environment. Though this product still shows areas for concern, it's a great idea.

Fisherman attacked on the front lines of South China Sea

U.S. Begins Selling Weapons to Vietnam (Bella Di Fazio 8th)

After decades of a compromised relationship with Vietnam, the U.S. has begun to sell weapons to Vietnam. Some people speculate this as a message mostly towards China that the U.S. is willing to trade with East Asian countries. Obama thinks that this is more of a strategic move to improve relationships with those countries after decades of tension. However, he did "downplay the China factor", meaning that China may interpret this as an act of possible hostility towards messing with its own trade and sovereignty with other countries.

While this is a very interesting way of trying to move past the Cold War tensions, I think this will instead cause even more tension between the U.S. and China if interpreted incorrectly. This will help both the U.S. and Vietnam economically, but if this doesn't work out the way as planned, it could lead to possibly some kind of war similar to the Vietnam war or even the Cold War.

Lincoln Anthony (8th Period)-"Arizona city bars Satanic Temple prayer at council meeting"

In Scottsdale, Arizona, officials have stated that the Satanic Temple will be forbidden from saying a prayer at a City Council meeting in early July. The Temple has stated that the Council did indeed greenlight them saying a prayer at the meeting, but they have more recently came forward saying that only establishments closely linked with the Scottsdale community could say the prayer.

Once again Lincoln Anthony has come in clutch with some current and relevant news. While I gotta say that Satanism isn't really the one for me, this is an obvious suppression of their first amendment right. If I wanted to perform some candlelit rituals and maybe partake in some chants at the city hall, who is the government to stop me from doing so? Don't forget that freedom of religion comes before the right to bear arms, the latter of which I can pretty safely say is something the good, Christian citizens of Arizona would have some kind of a hissy fit if they couldn't wave their various firearms around at all times in protection of their country. Well anyways thanks for reading this guys see you later. ;)
