Obama wants a peaceful resolution with Vietnam, and says civil rights are at stake. He says that disputes in China have been upsetting Vietnam's security. He claims that China is bullying Vietnam and that this should have a peaceful resolution.
This is similar to the war with Vietnam. The united states got involved in the affairs of Vietnam because they thought they were in danger and needed to keep them safe by implementing United States policy. Obama says he does not want to push the united states agenda onto this country and I have a feeling there will be comparisons to the Vietnam War
