This article is about Obama's upcoming visit to Vietnam. He will be only the third president to do so since the Vietnam war. Many skeptics do not expect any major results or changes from this visit. Even though official diplomatic relations were repaired in 1995, the negative attitudes of the Vietnam war are still heavy. Obama will be discussing trade policies and potential embargoes. The United States is very critical of and concerned about the condition of human rights in Vietnam and Obama will be attempting to make progress alongside the HRW (Human Rights Watch).

This is just one of countless examples of the United States going against one of the two pieces of advice in George Washington's Farewell Address. He told the country not to get involved in foreign affairs, and for better or for worse, we did exactly what he told America not to. I believe that one of the United State's main reasons for constantly butting in where we aren't invited is a matter of pride. America as a country generally believes that it is better bigger stronger and wiser than everyone else and that the entire world needs us to swoop in a save them by taking over. America has a bit of trouble being open minded towards other countries idea of a successful government and in turn we try to force our structure onto them.We did the same thing before trying to intervene and prevent communism and it led to the Vietnam war.
