Rapper Nipsey Hussle killed in shooting outside his L.A. store

Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle was killed in a shooting outside his clothing store in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, law enforcement sources said. Two other men were shot, and a suspect remained at large. Police sources said Hussle was shot multiple times in the parking lot at Marathon Clothing on West Slauson Avenue in South Los Angeles at about 3:25 p.m. and that he was pronounced dead at a hospital. 

One of the other men was being treated at a hospital, and the third man declined treatment, Los Angeles police Lt. Chris Martinez said. No other information was immediately available, but just a couple of hours before, Hussle, 33, whose real name was Ermias Ashgedom, had tweeted, "Having strong enemies is a blessing."

This was very heartbreaking to fellow artists and fans all over. Rest In Peace Nipsey.

New York is expected to become the second state to ban single-use plastic bags - Joziah German

New York is soon to become the second US state to ban single-use plastic bags. Passed a part of the states 2020 budget deal, the ban is going to be set next March. Democratic state Sen. Todd Kaminsky told CNN that this plastic bag controversy has been going on for a long time. He said the average plastic bag use is about 12 minutes, and this quick, efficient, single use item has added up. California was the first state to certify this ban. As well as states like Hawaii, who have statewide laws prohibiting bags, and are soon going to ban the use of plastics at restaurants. According to press, individual states/cities/ towns could include programs that would implement a 5-cent fee on paper bags. These fees would be used to environmental protection funds and other reusable bag programs. WCBS noted there would be exemptions to the ban; notably plastic carryout bags, dry cleaning; and plastic grocery bags. Residents in New York have had mixed reactions to these new changes. 

This article created by Dakin Andone, CNN, was published the day that New York had the meetings regarding implementing this ban. This article has mixed reactions, some agree with what people are saying against single use bags, while others will argue towards not changing anything about the bags people use. In entirety, no one side will be happy with the ban. This article reminds me of Great Pacific Garbage patch, and how it came to be discovered in 1997. Marine researcher Charles Moore got a sample of water with debris from the area, and therefore created the name for the awful occurrence. The single use plastics could be dumped or migrated to the patch, where it is already killing marine life and destroying the earth. The patch includes plastics that are non-biodegradable, so they will never dissolve into the water. The audience is most definitely the people living in New York. This ban is a very difficult change for some people, they have to completely change their ways leaving bags that the once could use. It also is giving information to New Yorkers on when the ban will be put into effect, how it will be introduced, and by whom it was pushed by. The purpose and importance of this article is that in this time and age our climate, resources, and living organisms are suffering. By banning single use plastic, we are eliminating more trash in landfills, and potential trash in polluting the collections of water around the world. These plastics are degrading our societies. They are non-biodegradable materials and contain killable chemicals and compounds. The article is giving notice to the change that some large, populated states are taking in order to conserve our planet for the next generation.

Leslie Vasquez- White House on Closing the U.S.-Mexico Border

As of today, there has been conflict in Trump's threat of closing the border this week. Closing the border would disrupt trade with Mexico, halt some production, and doing little to have a steady influx on immigrants crossing. Prices on goods would increase rapidly and layoffs would occur. Gerry Schwebel, an executive vice president of international division of IBC Bank said that shutting down the border will create an economic crisis. Critics of the threat say that it is unrealistic and unworkable, adding that there would be many legal challenges from companies.

Closing the border might be taking Trump's "securing the border" campaign too far. If closing the border will affect the U.S. dramatically in terms of economy, is there a point? Along with many immigrants trying to cross, there would be trucks stopping at the border trying to get products across and they would have to wait until it's opened again in a way. There should be other ways in securing the border that doesn't involve risking the economy.

TSA Announces New Technology to Improve Security Checkpoints | Daniella Castanheira

The TSA signed a $96.8 million contract with Smiths Detection, Inc. to improve the security checkpoints that airports are infamous for. Results are expected to be rolling out in 5 years or so, and will most likely rely on new Computer Tomography. These 3-D scanners will be capable of testing for explosives with "unprecedented precision," according to the release. Most importantly, these new scanners will be a "quantum leap forward" compared to the x-ray scanners that are in use now, according to agency administrator David Pekoske, and will allow people to pass through without having to separate all of their electronics.

This article was updated on March 29, 2019, making it a very recent source of information, and was written by Stacey Lastoe. This new technology isn't an update that most would call extremely important, but considering that there are around 965 million people travelling in the US alone per year, I think it will make going to airports a much easier, less headache-inducing experience. Although this technology update is for a much more harmless reason than that of 9/11, both saw an upgrade in airport security, and will change America's experience for the better.

"Celebrities call for Georgia boycott over abortion bill"

Recently, Georgia passed the "heartbeat" abortion bill which is now facing heavy opposition from celebrities local to Georgia, specifically those in the film industry. The new "heartbeat" bill says that a woman should not be allowed to abort a child and terminate a pregnancy after the first fetal heartbeat is detected. One of the main issues with this is that the first fetal heartbeat can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, and most woman don't know that they're carrying a child until around seven or eight weeks in. On Twitter, many celebrities have spoken out against the passing of this bill with Alyssa Milano saying, "There are over 20 productions shooting in GA & the state just voted to strip women of their bodily autonomy... Hollywood! We should stop feeding the GA economy." This comment was followed up by guilds of Hollywood writers threatening to boycott Georgia as a shooting location and as a main headquarters for production.

I recently got into an argument with my grandmother over abortion. I had said to her, "A woman's body is completely under her control. If something is going to be growing inside you and literally sucking life out of you, you should have the final say as to whether or not that's okay with you. No one can tell you to have a child because it is such an enormous physical burden alone. And that's not even taking into account what comes next." And to my face, after I had so clearly espoused my opinions and beliefs my grandmother told me, "people who think it's acceptable to kill a fetus are monsters. Abortion is monstrous because that is a life." You might wonder why I would bring this statement that has taken up three lines into my writing. I don't. I don't even wonder if it should be excluded because every single word is true. No one should have control over a woman's body. Yes, it is a life. But it is a life that has yet to begin. It is a life that will take a portion of a woman's life and possibly ruin a woman's life. And that's the major issue with the "heartbeat" abortion bill: it doesn't think about what that means for the woman because it's too focused on the child. A woman's body is HER choice and nobody else's.

jude holland - Mark Zuckerburg calls for internet regulation

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has called for stricter control on the internet by the US government, and is  is calling for regulators to play a "more active role" controlling content on the internet. He wants to more strictly regulate "harmful content, election integrity, privacy and data portability." The Cambridge Analytica scandal and other example s of companies using the internet in similar ways has caused Zuckerburg to support this way of thinking, as well as the attacks Facebook has come under for failing to delete terrorist videos and accounts as well as failing to repel cyberattacks and the spread of fake news stories on their pages.

Although i support free speech and believe everyone, including companies wishing to sell products on the internet, should have the ability to do so, but i support Zuckerberg's decision because by more strictly regulating the internet, hateful, threatening content can be controlled, as well as the spread of fake news and accounts to manipulate internet uses either politically or financially. The threat of Russian cyberattacks in order to sway internet users politically can also be seen as something that needs to be regulated, in order to preserve our national security.

"Red Flag: Guns." An interpretation of CNN article by Adelaide Willert

"This Colorado sheriff is willing to go to jail rather than enforce a proposed gun law"

In the article linked above by CNN reporter Scott McLean, a Coloradan sheriff has been given the choice of jail time or enforcement of a court order for refusing to uphold and enforce the controversial "red flag" bill that was recently proposed. So what's the "red flag" bill and why's it so controversial? McLean answers both of these questions in his article.

The "red flag" bill is Colorado's "extreme risk protection order" that would let a family member, member of household, or member of law enforcement petition a judge to take someone's firearms away if the person appeared to be a danger to others or themselves. This legislative action was pushed through the state government when a 29 year old deputy was killed in 2017 by a man with a plethora of firearms.

This new bill is so controversial because for many gun rights activists and members of law enforcement (who are constantly increasing in numbers), the bill has crossed a line and is too aggressive. Many say that it violates the second amendment by taking away a person's right to the firearms they own, and many say that it does almost nothing if the same is not applied to other weapons, such as concealed blades and blunt weapons.

I found this article intriguing for two reasons: one, I'm from Colorado so it's interesting to look back and see how much has changed in my childhood community, and to see how the current national issues have an effect on a state that I look at through rose-tinted glasses; two, gun control has become a major point of contention nationally and is something that I'm personally very passionate about. Guns are one of the reasons that I feel unsafe on a daily basis, so I would question what would cause someone to hesitate when they have what I see as an opportunity to make the world a safer place. It's infuriating when someone blatantly disregards perspectives other than their own in these country-wide debates, so when I get the opportunity to see what the other side thinks, I find it worthwhile to take a few minutes and read so that I can understand why other people justify having killing machines kept at their hips and in their garages. Ultimately, I believe that the "red flag" bill is one that should be passed; no one should even come close to touching a firearm if they don't have a clean bill of both physical and (more importantly) mental health. If someone is perceived to be in a position where they could harm others or themselves, it makes a whole world of sense to take away any weapons they could use to do so.

Emma Burkey- Columbine students start campaign to share images of their death if they're killed in gun violence

This CNN article discusses a new movement originating from Columbine High school student, Kaylee Tyner that consists of students putting stickers on their ID, that they sign, saying they want images of their body shown in the case they die of gun violence. The #MyLastShot Movement is for the purpose of showing the public the reality of gun violence in America, and not letting it continued to go unnoticed.

I believe Tyner is extremely brave for coming up with this idea. The very thought of our bodies being seen after we die of gun violence is uncomfortable, however, as Tyner says about her parents, "(it) makes them uncomfortable, but that's how it should be." This statement is true because when has there ever been change without seeing the truth? People could turn away from the pictures all they wanted, but they wouldn't be able to deny that they exist. Tyner knows that photography has had profound effect on America, and her example of Emmet Till's death relates it to history. Till's body was a major factor in the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, not because it was hidden, but because it was shone. Many teenagers have begun to support the movement, such as David Hogg, a Parkland survivor, and many Columbine students; I plan to do the same.

Fox and Friends accidentally headlined the banner for the 6 pm show as "TRUMP CUTS AID TO 3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES" which is literally impossible. The accident was made fun of all Sunday. Many criticized the error of being because of Fox's traditional right winged views. It is also embarrassing since Trump gets lots of his political information from Fox and Friends. Few sympathized with their mistake, some even saying it was evidence of Fox and Friend's true feelings of hispanics. The real story is that Trump is stopping US aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, because they "haven't done a thing for us."

Previously to this, I knew that Fox news was very right sided, and I actually specifically chose this topic because I was aware of how scarily reliant Trump is on Fox and Friends for updates on politics. Trump tweets out "facts" as direct quotes from Fox and Friends while the show is streaming! This is important because the fact that such a news show could write off a mistake seemingly an accident, but truthfully, even if some tired writer wasn't thinking well when typing, the thought in itself is slightly offensive. Summarizing every Latin American as a Mexican is a known "slur", and to have accidentally placed it as a main headline in a new station is extremely embarrassing. I can relate this to yellow journalism during the Spanish-American war, and how the free speech made many Americans want to go to war with Spain, and many how may have believed in the exaggerated texts from the writers. Trump pretty much believes anything Fox with Friends says, and most likely had not even flinched when he read the title, "3 Mexican Countries..."

I'm not playing games," he said. This would restrict trade and be severely detrimental to Mexico's economy, as trade with the U.S. accounts for 80% of its trade with foreign countries. Last month, the president used his power to declare a national emergency to secure funding for the wall, which is perfectly within his rights to do, as Congress passed the National Emergencies Act in 1976.

After being separated from her roommates during a night out, at 2 am, 21 year old, Samantha Josephson called for an uber. She had got in the car thinking it was her ride and 14 hours later turkey  hunters had found her body in a field 90 miles from her college in Columbia. Nathaniel David Rowland, 24, was arrested on charges of murder and kidnapping in connection with Josephson's death.

This is really sad and its a good reason as to why taking uber's by yourself is very dangerous and its best to have someone with you. This world has become that dangerous were you cant trust anyone to take you anywhere and also she should have double checked that, that car was actually for her uber. This connects to how these days its not safe to do anything anymore.

Isadora Lilly- Georgia’s “Fetal Heartbeat” Bill

This past Friday, lawmakers sent the “fetal heartbeat” abortion bill to Republican Governor Brian Kemp, who had previously agreed to sign it. The bill would legally reduce the time frame to undergo abortion from 20 weeks to only six weeks, making abortion illegal after the first signs of heartbeat are usually detectable within the womb. Critics have vowed to fight the bill, despite the backer of the bill, state Rep. Ed Setzler, having claimed that the bill is “scientifically, legally, and practically sound”, as well as that it “strikes the balance between protecting the rights of mothers and their unborn children”.

This reminds me of the 1973 Supreme Court Case, Roe v. Wade, which ruled that criminalizing abortion was unconstitutional. Today the question of whether or whether not a woman should have the decision to abortion is highly controversial, and the Roe v. Wade case seems to have been overturned as the number of states passing similar six-week abortion bans rise, as North Dakota, Iowa, Kentucky, and Mississippi have already passed their own, with Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio, Florida, and Georgia considering the same.

Judge blocks California's high-capacity ammunition ban - Dillon Quicksall

A California law that would ban high-capacity (more than 10 bullet) ammo magazines was struck down by a Californian Judge, citing an example of a woman running out of bullets when defending herself from robbers. Donald Trump's driver Zoltan Tamas was a law abiding, legal immigrant to the United States. He legally immigrated from Romania to the US in 2011, was licensed to carry a gun, paid taxes, and bought a house just like anyone else. Tamas has been kept in ICE custody for eight months due to the Trump Administration's crackdown on immigration. He was originally arrested in 2016 when officials found out that he was convicted of insurance fraud in Romania. His lawyers are arguing that he didn't do anything illegal in America, so ICE has no reason to detain him, but the crackdown on arrests means that he must be kept in detention because of his crimes in his native country. Tamas has a wife, a son, and a daughter at home that he hasn't seen once in eight months. The family had been in the US for five years and had applied for naturalization, and the wife was contacted about meeting with an immigration officer, but Tamas was not. When the couple went to the immigration office he was told that he was being detained and to hand his wife his ring, watch, phone, and belt. The article goes on to explain how his family is impacted while he is detained.

Analysis
This article was written on Friday, March 29, 2019. I knew that ICE had been cracking down on arrests but I didn't know how much they had done. This is related to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 which got rid of the immigration quotas to the US because this man might have been limited to his original entrance due to the small population of Romanians in the US in the mid 1900's. The audience is everyone in the United States because we all could be affected or know people that could be affected by immigration officials. The author, Miriam Jordan is a national immigration correspondent, so she is very well informed about the laws and changes in the US regarding immigration. The article was written to inform us about how a man that abides by all the US laws was arrested for allegedly committing crimes in his native country. This is important because we should all stay informed on how we are impacted by immigration. I find this whole situation a bit ironic because this man worked for Trump for so long and then was detained and took away from his family by the program that Trump is pushing, a man that loved Trump is now hurt by his political actions.

George Clooney Calls for Boycotts for LGBTQ - Sloan Daley

George Clooney is calling for a boycott over nine hotels that have been linked to Brunei LGBTQ laws. The country said homosexuality would be punishable by death. It used to be that homosexuals could face being whipped or stoned in the tiny South East Asian state. George Clooney saw that Brunei became the first East Asian country to adopt Islamic Sharia law despite widespread condemnation. He responded by saying that they are violating human rights. Clooney is disgusted and is organizing boycotts across the hotels that were involved in this inhuman act. It is crazy to imagine that these things still go on in our world. Hopefully the boycotts are effective in making his point, because no one should ever be punished, especially by death, for their sexuality.

I see and understand the concerns of the people- feeling in the dark about the government, wanting to know everything and be informed (because, after all, they are the ones receiving whatever the outcome of the report grants). The speaker has a very strong democratic opinion about the issue, so the document is very biased, and he is trying to rally the readers and used the point of "closure" to get his point across. The persuasiveness is somewhat aggressive, especially if you listen to it, and I don't think, although I agree with the point, this wanted me to believe him any more.

Charlottesville Attacker Pleads Guilty to Federal Hate Crime Charges -Martina D’Orso

          James Fields Jr., 21, recently pled guilty to the felony of federal hate crimes for shooting a woman in a 2017 white nationalism protest rally. He faced 30 charges and pled guilty to 29 of them, 28 counts to injuring almost 40 people and 1 count of a hate crime for murdering Heather Heyer in the rally. Every 30 charges has a sentence of up to life and a $250,000 each. Fields’s attorney asks that the prosecutors do not choose the death penalty because of the death penalty which would dismiss one count of bias motive interference which was the death of Ms. Heyer. He is spending the rest of his life in prison on counts of domestic terrorism as he also plowed through the crowd with his car. He will not be sentenced to death penalty, and Ms. Heyer’s mother agrees saying it would not bring her daughter back.

Before reading this article I had not known about this situation, but after reading this article I have a negative impact towards the murderer. We can really relate this to the KKK who committed white supremacy crimes against African Americans, and although the woman killed was not African American, the killer was still promoting white supremacy and its ideals. Two people were killed and two others were badly injured in a shooting/ carjacking. Police said the violence unfolded in Lake City, around 4 p.m. Pacific time. The gunman, who lived in the area, attempted to carjack a vehicle, said Seattle Deputy Police Chief Marc Garth Green in a news conference. The suspect, then shot the driver and the car veered off the road, Garth Green said.

Then, the gunman turned his attention toward a county bus and opened fire, shooting the driver. The bus driver was able to steer the bus away from the scene, police said.

 — A federal jury has gave $80 million to a California man after discovering that Monsanto's popular weedkiller, Roundup, was the cause of his cancer, and that the corporation is liable.

The jury in San Francisco awarded compensatory damages at $5.27 million and punitive damages of $75 million to the plaintiff, Edwin Hardeman.

During the first phase of the trial last week, the jury $hit Monsanto pretty hard, saying Roundup was a  factor in causing Hardeman's non-Hodgkin lymphoma.The second phase focused on the question of Monsanto's legal responsibility, and what damages if any should be awarded. Hardeman claimed that Roundup's design was defective, that the product lacked sufficient warning of potential risks and that Monsanto had been negligent in not warning about risks.

Former FBI Director James Comey is one of the people questioning why special counsel Robert Mueller didn't make a determination on whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice.Mueller, Comey's predecessor as head of the FBI, was appointed to lead a special counsel investigation in the wake of Comey's firing, and a portion of the probe was dedicated to investigating if Trump had committed obstruction of justice.In the interview, Comey said he did not know ahead of the report's conclusion how it would weigh in on the question of potential coordination with Russia, but was glad that Mueller was able to finish the investigation, reassuring the US' conclusion that Russia interfered with the 2016 election and that "the evidence didn't establish that any Americans conspired as part of that effort."

"That should be good news no matter what party you're associated with," Comey added. He also used the appearance to defend the FBI, saying the investigation's conclusion should show "the FBI is not corrupt.

Commissioner tells Latina Judge to "Speak English"- Sydney Ewing

Texas county commissioner Mark Tice has apologized for saying that Lina Hidalgo, the first Latina and first woman judge elected to head Harris County, should “speak English” after she spoke in English and Spanish at a news conference. He also posted comments saying that Hidalgo was “a joke,” and also saying, “It’s real simple. This is the United States. Speak English.” Judge Hidalgo had been addressing reporters from both English and Spanish language media outlets during a press conference. Tice has apologized in a Facebook post saying, “From my understanding, there were reporters asking questions in Spanish and Judge Hidalgo responded to those questions in Spanish, with no translation given. If that is not the case, then I sincerely apologize.” Tice also said that he apologizes to “Judge Hidalgo, the citizens of my County, and most importantly the entire Hispanic community for hastily acting out with transgression on social media.”

I had first heard about this story yesterday and I am glad that Tice has apologized for his comment so hastily. Harris county is Texas’ most populous county and it includes the Houston area. I have no idea how Tice didn't think that that comment would get him any backlash, especially since that same comment is very stereotypical among conservative southerners and is often satirized. This exact same comment has been made towards Hispanics for several years now. Also, maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but the whole “saying something offensive on social media and then apologizing on social media” thing doesn't really convince me. An apology on Facebook doesn't really seem as sincere to me. History can tell us that political leaders need to watch what they say. Just look at the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Just... proofread your posts, kids.

jude holland - Bystanders film Old Woman kicked by man on subway

Recently, 36 year old Marc Gomez was arrested for repeatedly kicking a 76 year old lady while on a New York subway. Instead of helping, bystanders watched and filmed the incident with their cell phones, not doing anything as they watched Gomez repeatedly kick the woman until she was bleeding. He then got off the train, while the lady sat silently crying on the train, cell phones still filming. The police didn't find the video until recently, but the old lady was reported to have been attended by EMS as soon as she got off of the train.

I think this is a treble story that shows both how careless and self-absorbed people can be, and also that we can be negatively affected by out technology in many ways. Although cellular devices are good in most cases, if we didn't have them, someone wouldv'e almost certainly stepped in and helped the old lady rather than standing and filming. It shows how both childish, careless and selfish people can be in situations when it comes helping others, wether they are in need or danger.

Analysis: It's always a bit of a shock to see the kinds of ripple effects spawn from a school shooting, and especially an elementary school. Because of that day, when those poor people were in the wrong place at the wrong time, a drop of water, or rather a bullet, fell into a pool of tears that still shows itself to this day in events like a possible suicide nearly 7 years later. This article was written by the writing staff at BBC (the names weren't listed), and this article was written to mourn the death of a parent who had been mourning for seven long years, trying to fill the seeping gap in his heart that opened when his daughter flew up to heaven. Before I read this article, I knew nothing about the death of this father, and how influential a school shooting can be with time. I only pray for the family alongside the town of Newtown. This can be related to the Parkland suicide that happened just a couple days prior.

As we all remember last year there was a mass shooting at Parkland Highschool in Florida. 17 people were killed and others were injured. The tragedy sent a shock wave not only through that town, but through the nation. Unfortunately, the pain never goes away and even though the nation can move on the people who witnessed it first hand can not.  On the 17th, Parkland survivor Sydney Aiello tragically took her own life. Robert Mueller is officially done with his investigation of two years. To recap, in January 2017, the US intel had said that Russia was influencing the 2016 election to have Trump win. After that FBI Director Comes confirmed that the FBI was looking into it (Trump fired Comey, so they went to Mueller). After two years of digging, he gave his official report to Attorney General Barr. His summary says that Trump is not guilty. However, Mueller's team didn't come to an official conclusion about Trump's possible obstructing justice. Trump is ecstatic, but his team did not get out completely perfect- many close to him face prison time. Trump is still being investigated by a number of congressional committees and persecutors in New York. It's unclear if we'll ever get perfect answers to this case.

Nike has won in a lawsuit over the "Jumpman" logo for its Air Jordan brand.  On Monday, the supreme court declined to hear a case brought up by a photographer who sued Nike for violating the copyright law.

In 1984, photographer Jacobus Rentmeester took a photo for Life Magazine of Jordan, a student at the University of North Carolina, the ball in his outstretched left hand, jumping towards an outdoor basket with his legs wide. Jordan wore his US Olympic team uniform and Converse sneakers in the photo.  Time Magazine later ranked it among the most 100 influential images of all time.  When Jordan left for college for the NBA later that year, he signed and sponsorship deal with Nike. Rentmeester says Nike copied "basically every original element" in the photo that the company used for an early marketing campaign with Jordan. The silhouette of the image became the logo for Nike's Air Jordan line, which reached more than $2.8 billion in sales last year.

This weekend, the father of one of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. Jeremy Richmond was the father of 6-year-old Avielle Richmond and many described him as a devoted father. The Sandy Hook shooting took 26 lives on December 14, 2012, but we never got a look at the lives it effected in the wake of such a horrible day. The effects of this were immeasurable, causing ripple effects that lasted 7 years later. This relates to history because it is the forth deadliest shooting to ever happen in American history. This morning the father of a Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre victim was found dead in an apparent suicide. Jeremy Richman was discovered at by officers responding to a report of a suicide at 7 a.m. Richman's daughter was among the 20 first-graders and six adults killed during the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre. He helped found the Avielle Foundation, which aims to prevent violence through brain health research and fostering community. The Avielle Foundation responded by saying, "Jeremy was deeply devoted to supporting research into brain abnormalities that are linked to abnormal behavior and to promoting brain health," the statement said. "Tragically, his death speaks to how insidious and formidable a challenge brain health can be. ... We are crushed to pieces, but this important work will continue, because, as Jeremy would say, we have to."

Richman's death shows the lasting mental tole of the Sandy Hook massacre on the parents of its victims. He had been dealing with that pain for about seven years and he had helped so many people with his foundation. I hope that the loss of their founder won't stagger the change they're trying to make.

Anne McClain and Christina Koch were set to make history but the spacewalk will be delayed, there is only one spacesuit in size medium available at the station. Both women will be speaking history during this mission being the 13 and 14 woman to perform a spacewalk. The spacewalk will last about seven hours.

Gender Discrimination-Mia Murphy

     On March 8, 2019, the United States women’s soccer team filed a gender discrimination law suit against the country’s soccer federation due to equal pay, and working conditions. The 28 women on the team say they have been feeling this discrimination for years, which is reflected in their pay, medical treatments, where they play, and when they play. This act of the U.S. women’s soccer team has also ignited other female sports teams to hop on the same band wagon. This current event relates to the 19th ammedment because women had to fight for the right to vote just like these women are fighting for the rights of women athletes.

Youssef Bakr -- "Dershowitz says CNN 'banned' him for not conforming to 'one-sided presentation' of Mueller report"

It turns out that the Russia investigation was a witch hunt, as the public found out on Saturday after AG William Barr released findings on the Mueller investigation. Legal legend Alan Dershowitz was to do an analysis on CNN, but the media network blocked him for not catering to CNN and its viewers' political views, according to the former Harvard Law professor. He said on 'The Story' that "CNN won't have me on the air because they want a one-sided presentation... I was being too fair... and I wasn't being partisan. They didn't want that."

It seems that the objective media was back at it again, trying to spoon feed their viewers with one-sided interpretations. This is awfully similar to events that occurred during the California Gold Rush. The San Francisco Alta California newspaper was the figurative enemy of Democratic California Governor John Bigler.

Emma Burkey: After 2nd apparent suicide of Parkland shooting survivor, one parent points to Columbine

This CBS article follows the story of a Parkland school shooting survivor, Sydney Aiello, and her suicide on March 17. Aiello had PTSD from the shooting and had survivor's guilt, however she never reached out and asked for help. The father of a victim of the shooting linked similar feelings and actions to the survivors of the Columbine shooting in 1999. One of Aiello's closest friends, Meadow, was killed in the shooting on February 14, 2018.

As if a school shooting isn't enough of a tragedy, those who survived and their families must now accept the reality of still being haunted by the incident. This is a similar story to another victim of suicide from Parkland and a Sandy Hook father who took his own life. This story not only makes me incredibly sad at this truth, but infuriated at the lack of action. Politicians who continue to push aside the issue of guns and the disasters they lead to don't realize that the people who managed to escape physically, can never escape mentally. I don't know how much more it is going to take for people in power to realize we need proper action, and I don't want to, because this is horrible. We need laws now. It is the first anniversary of the March for Our Lives and it shouldn't be passed over, it should be celebrated for the change that should have come a year ago after Parkland. Two years ago after Las Vegas. Three years ago after Pulse Nightclub. And seven years after Sandy Hook. The list goes on and on, but no matter how you look at it, we should have had laws a long time ago. But, you can't change what never happened, so best make it happen now.

Over six years since his daughter Avielle was killed at the Sandy Hook shooting, Jeremy Richman had devoted his life to preventing families rom experiencing the same tragedy he went through. He created the Avielle Foundation with his wife to research brain abnormalities that could be linked to aggressive behavior. On Monday, Mr. Richman was found dead in an apparent suicide. Members of his community were shocked to hear what had happened.

This tragedy shows just how much such terrible events can stick with people. The loss of a child, especially in such a terrible way, is not something you can get over. This is just another example of why we need stricter gun laws.

More Tragedy at Parkland - Anna Speer

A little over a year ago, tragedy struck a high school in Parkland, Florida.  A gunman killed 17 people that was one of a multitude of shootings that has happened at schools across American since Columbine, Colorado. But it appears the ripple effect of the violence does not stop on the day of the shooting. This week there have been two apparent suicides from students trying to live with the memories of that day in Florida. On March 17th a former cheerleader, now 19, took her own life not able to live with the post traumatic stress of her memories.  And only 6 days later another student, who was not named, also ended their life by suicide. As a society, are we asking too much of our children to bear?  It seems after ever incident, there is an outcry. But only for a minute.  These young lives have to witness and live with the burden.  And for some that burden is too great.  When will our country wake up to the fact that gun laws have to be changed?

The family of Aretha Franklin celebrated on would have been Aretha's 77 birthday. They had a memorial service and screening of a documentary film. The service was held in Detroit at the Woodlawn Cemetery. The Queen of soul died last year from pancreatic cancer and was laid to rest not too far from Woodlawn's chapel.

Analysis: This article was written on March 25,2019. The writers purpose of this article was to bring remembrance of the late Aretha Franklin. I think it it so good that they played tribute to such a wonderful person and was able to celebrate her life. This article relates to history because many other stars such as Micheal Jackson had documentaries and celebrations after his death. Scientists have found a way to mimic birth control in male bodies.  The chemicals lower testosterone without having any negative side effects on the rest of the body as one would think.

This is an important advancement because it gives men another viable method of contraception.  I hadn't thought about the effects that lower testosterone would have on the male body, but I'm glad this medication doesn't interfere with that.  I just hope that men are open to taking on this new responsibility.  This article relates to Margaret Sanger, as she helped start planned parenthood.

Within days of each other, two parkland students committed suicide, a year since the MFOL campaign launched In response to the Stoneman Douglas shooting. One of the students, Sydney Aiello, was a senior during the attack and suffered from PTSD and survivor's guilt due to the death of her friend and fellow classmates.

These tragic events have caused outcry over mental health treatment and suicide prevention in the US. Throughout history US mental health care has never been adequate with people like Dorthea Dix needing to come in and make sweeping reforms. As there is no way to truly move on from such a tragedy, we need to provide the survivors with adequate resources during their times of need.

Krispy Kreme Owners Admit to Nazi Ties- Sydney Ewing

The Reimann family, who owns brands like Krispy Kreme, Keurig, Dr. Pepper and Panera Bread, say that their Nazi ancestors used slave labor during World War II. Albert Reimann Sr. (died in 1954) and Albert Reimann Jr. (died in 1984) used Russian civilian prisoners and French prisoners of war as forced labor in their factories during the war. They also financially supported Adolf Hitler with donations. Peter Haft, the chairman of JAB Holdings, has condemned their actions and stated that "We were ashamed and white as sheets. There is nothing to gloss over. These crimes are disgusting."

It is kind of crazy how big names now are tied to the past. The Reimanns are one of the richest families in Germany and own many businesses that all of us have come to know. I'm not sure about the validity of this statement, but it is possible that the Reimanns owe their success to WWII and Hitler. Allegedly, the Reimanns were not even aware of their history until now and it has taken 3 years of hired investigation to even get to this point. I know in Germany now they often try to act like the Holocaust never happened, so maybe this lack of information about their family is a result of that. I wonder how many tycoons and big name companies in today’s America have roots in slavery. Actually, several companies, especially wholesale clothing companies, have deep roots in child slavery in other countries. It used to be child labor in America but that's a violation of their r i g h t s and it’s d a n g e r o u s. So I guess we'll just outsource the child labor. It's worth it for a $10 t-shirt amirite?

Jeremy Richman, the 49-year-old father of little Avielle Richman, was found dead at Edmond Town Hall. The death is an apparent suicide but police have not disclosed any further details. Richman and his wife were among multiple other familes who sued Alex Jones who repeatdly alleged on his conspiracy-fixated radio. This is ironic because a few years ago he made a large donation to the school, establishing the Andre Young school of Arts.

This article was written by Dakin Adone, a reporter/journalist who works at CNN. It relates to U.S. history and current events in that it has a strong connection to the current college issue where parents are paying schools to accept their children. Dr. Dre states that his daughter did it all on her own, which is not completely true. While he didn't directly pay the school for his daughter to be accepted, it certainly brings the argument to mind that this donation had a big impact on her acceptance.

Sydney struggles in college because the classrooms scared her and caused loads of anxiety. In an article  published on March 24 by the New York Times, Sandra E. Garcia writes on an incident involving four fraternity members at University of Georgia. One of the students was mocking whipping another and yelling "pick my cotton" and racial slurs. The other students in the video were encouraging him and laughing along. University of Georgia, located in Athens, Georgia, near Atlanta, is primarily white. The students in the video were expelled from the fraternity, but were not given any further punishment from the school, so the expulsion was more of a slap on the wrist. This goes to show how, while widespread segregation has ended, racism has not changed much since the 60s. The impact of slavery still lives on, and some think it's a joking matter now, and funny to laugh about the unflinching cruelty of that age in American history.

Fraser Anning has a history of less than tasteful comments. His latest beauty involved blaming muslims FOR the Christchurch attack despite the fact they were the victims. Luckily, just because he voiced his garbage opinions does not mean there was not retaliation. A 17 year old boy who had come to hear the speech was so shocked at his bigoted comments he egged the senator. The senator promptly punched him and the boy was attacked by the bystanders. Despite this, it did not stop him from going viral and being lovingly termed "Egg Boy". Reportedly, a GoFundMe is in the works to pay for his hospital Bill's and more eggs.

This story absolutely delighted me. No matter the angle you view it from, no damage was done. Even if you view the senator as a victim, he dished out far more than he received and getting egged is more of an annoyance and humiliation than anything else. And frankly, in my opinion, it's no less than he deserved. Time and time again it has been shown that instances like these are sometimes the only ways to shut down bigots. Punching nazis works and apparently so does egging bigots. This reminds me of the infamous shoe incident during the George Bush administration. During a press conference, an iraqi journalist threw both of his shoes one after the other at president Bush. However, rather impressively, Bush dodged both. Both incidents involved rather lighthearted displays of frustration that became incredibly impactful given how known they became and both were executed with innovative if unorthodox items.

Leslie Vasquez- Parkland

In the same week, two Parkland students commit suicide, exactly a year since the March For Our Lives campaign in response to the Stoneman Douglas shooting on February 14, 2018. One of the students, Sydney Aiello, was a senior during the attack. In the past year, she had been dealing with survivor's guilt and PTSD after the death of her friend, Meadow Pollack. The other student's death is under investigation. These deaths have caused an outcry to give resources for students and parents on mental health and suicide prevention.

Even though the shooting happened over a year ago, the pain and vivid memory of it still lives with everyone affected. The country shouldn't forget that it happened. There has to be a way to help those affected and prevent incidents like this to happen again. There is no way of "moving on" from the fact that a great majority of students are scared of this happening in their school and that there hasn't been major change in regulating guns and speaking on mental health. Change is needed as soon as possible.

In this week’s current event, I will discuss how people’s bad spontaneous decisions can eventually come back to haunt them and be something they will regret. This past week an American figure skater was accused of bullying and purposely cutting a South Korean skater during warm-ups at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, Japan. The figure skater, Mariah Bell, allegedly kicked competitor Lim Eun-soo during warm-ups before the women’s short program competition according to the claims made by the Korean skater’s management agency. An official for All That Sports, Lim’s management agency, exclaimed how “slowly skating on the edge of the rink after completing her turn” Bell, who was scheduled to warm-up after her, “suddenly kicked and stabbed Lim’s calf with her skate blades.” Bell, being observed purposely not apologizing, was accused of doing the action on purpose. The investigation is still being prosecuted to see if bell truly is guilty or not. While Lin was cut she was able to receive medical treatment, and still was able to compete in the competition.

               Another blackout struck the country of Venezuela nationwide except for a few small areas, making it the second large scale blackout to occur this month.  The last blackout lasted for 4-6 days in some areas, with looting taking place.  Many businesses have been having to close up early, in order to prevent any further looting.  While Maduro blames the blackout on a conspiracy by the US government and their “puppet” Guaido, it is suspected by experts that the blackouts are due to a technical or mechanical failure.

               This article was written by Reuters, who has done extremely well on reporting on this volatile situation.  It is horrendous for a country such as Venezuela to not own up to the country’s own failure and playing the victim, inventing insane crackpot theories, as opposed to doing something to properly address this issue in the country.  The country has endured years of economic hardship and half the population has no way to make a living.

               This situation reminds me of the scramble for some sort of action following the initial start of the Great Depression.  Hoover, who was president at the time, had no clue how to handle the situation, so he ended up not doing much of anything, much like the current president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, whose inaction to the economic crisis in Venezuela has actually increased the gravity of said crisis.  I hope some action can be taken to prevent further human suffering in the country, like it finally was in America.

Women Becoming Marines: 'I' Will No Longer Be in Your Vocabulary- Fiona Graybill

This article revolves around women becoming Marines. In South Carolina, women train for 11 weeks to become part of the US Armed Forces. This depot is the only place that women can become Marines and, other than the one battalion and classroom courses, men and women recruits train separately. The article briefs the reader of the history of female Marines and until 2016, women were not able to serve in combat roles alongside their male counterparts. The story includes many photos depicting the daily life of these women who devote many hours to the grueling and lacking-in-total-equality system that prepares them for the service.

The article mentions an exercise that the recruits do called, "Noonan's evacuation" based on an evacuation that took place in Vietnam, showing that previous conflicts can influence the way we go about international conflict. In the future, we will continue to change the way our defense system is set up and work towards further equality while maintaining some of the same important lessons from previous military conflicts.

Apple is partnering with Goldman Sachs to make its own credit card this summer and it will be available on all IOS devices in the wallet app.

All of the big things that the company Apple is doing is amazing and this connects back to the industrial revolution and all of the inventions that contributed to the technology now. The invention of the telephone is what led to all of this that is happening now and how all of these technology companies are growing more and more over time.

Flooding damage extensive in Midwest and more rain forecast-Yesenia Ramirez Monroy 

March 17, 2019 their was a flooding that surrounded Offutt Air Force Base and other areas near by. The area was flooded by 7 feet high water and their was also the  Missouri River floodwaters that poured on to the Nebraska air base which led to closing 140 roads .This has led to many issues including having to pay at least for $3 billion for damage caused on the streets and houses. The flooding has also led to other issues in the environment and economy with the agriculture by killing all of its livestock.Flooding keeps causing problems along several major rivers in the eastern Dakotas and northwestern Minnesota.The National Weather Service also said that there is a 10% chance the Red River will approach the 2009 record of 41 feet in Fargo, North Dakota.They also said to stay aware due to rain during spring time and other possible flooding.

This article was written by the Associate Press with the purpose of informing U.S. citizen's of this current issue and alert the people who live around that area as well. This flooding had already been predicted leading to only a few deaths of 3 people and 2 people missing.It's also due to the Missouri River that's near by on which people noticed increasing due to the snow in the north melting and flowing down the river and also due to the current rain.This current issue reminds me of the Dust Bowl that took place in the 1930's due to the unstable farming. This then led to a severe dust storms which destroyed vegetation and effected the U.S. economy.
