Summary: The grief that still lingers today in Parkland after last year's massacre is now compounded by recent suicides of former students. Sydney Alleio, a 2018 graduate of Marjory Stoneman high school died by suicide last week. She suffered from survivor's guilt and had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Then on Saturday, another student died in an "apparent suicide", though it is uncertain what circumstances the student died in and if it's because of the massacre. "Unfortunately, what we've learned is that the survivors of a traumatic event like a school shooting carry with them a lot of guilt, anxiety, pressures, depression even," said Ryan Petty, whose daughter Alaina Petty was killed in last year's shooting. "So our message is parents we have to take this seriously. We have to take this into our own hands. ... Regardless of your proximity to the building and whether or not you saw the horrific events of that day that took 17 lives and injured 17 others, you're part of a school community and that community is suffering."

Analysis: this article was updated today so I wonder what the real publishing date was. The article was written by Kaylee Hartung, Susannah Cullinan, and Holly Yan, the article reflects the fact that 3 people worked on this by it's long length. This article connects back to the mentioned shooting, it was a nationwide tragedy. This article is for parents and how sometimes your children may not be as ok as you think. This article was written, because these suicides are very recent and connect to the mass shooting. This article is important, because it shows parents that they need to take initiative and stay alert about their child's wellbeing.

  1. This article is a good reminder that people who go through something tragic and terrifying definitely need to get help to work through their grief. It is very sad that these suicides happened and it just adds to what that community has to go through.

  2. This is why we need better gun control and mental health support. Sorry for being so liberal, but I'm tired of hearing about dead kids in the news.
