Ryan Mecca | President Trump says Mueller acted honorably, despite months of criticism

*this Current Event is not a reflection of my political viewpoints, but rather an analysis based on my personal interpretation of the text—plz don’t come for me*

President Trump has claimed that Robert Mueller’s investigation of the alleged Russian election interference was an action of honor. Previously, Trump Tweeted about “Bob Mueller and his gang of Democratic thugs”, stating his beliefs on the personal attack he believed he had been receiving regarding the claim that he had been working with Russia to rig the election results. He has stated that Mueller’s investigation was honorable, only after the report came out in his defense; before, Trump complained about Mueller defending people “on the other side”.
Many expected the 2016 election result in Hillary Clinton’s election, so when Trump won, many people created conspiracies giving reason to his success. Among these conspiracies was that Trump worked with Russia to have the election rigged so that he would win; this has been a strong controversy throughout Trunp’s term. By directing this article towards the public, authors John Fritze and Michael Collins attempt to bring awareness to the shifting opinions of Trump and show his possible egotistical bias.
The “witch hunt” by Mueller, as described in this article, is similar to that of Joseph McCarthy during the Cold War. McCarthy’s campaign against communism—McCarthyism—attempted to identify many allegedly communist U.S. government officials, just as Mueller’s attempted to identify the possible scandal between Trump and Russia by conducting a “witch hunt”. Both instances also has to do with the U.S.’s foreign relations with Russia, or previously the Soviet Union.
