Hannah Howell- E Coli Outbreak Leads To Meat Recall

Summary: An outbreak of a dangerous strand of E Coli in beef products has affected 7 people in the northeast. Thankfully no deaths have bee recorded, but 5 of the 7 people have become hospitalized. The only explanation of this is that animal waste came in contact with the crops. After an investigation of the outbreak, it was traced back to Adams Farm Slaughterhouse in Massachusetts. They are now recalling their products so no more people are harmed.

Analysis: I am glad to hear that all the people who got the virus are okay. I think that better sanitary precautions should be taken to prevent an outbreak like this happening again, though I know that sometimes accidents happen. This reminds me of the outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter in 2014 and the recent outbreak of Hepatitis A in frozen strawberries.

  1. What a disconcerting article. It is reassuring though that it did not bring fatality! This seems to me like a side affect of mass agricultural yields rather then a preventable mistake; When harvesting such a large number of crops there is, unfortunately, a small margin of error.
