Liam Taylor - 17-Year-Old Forces Toddler to Smoke Weed

Summary: In this article, there is a video and a written article telling about a 17-year-old man who offers his nephew weed. He asks the 3-year-old boy if he "wants to hit the blunt." The innocent unassuming toddler takes the weeds and inhales it. Police who found the video accidentally found it surfacing Facebook, so it's wasn't even like they were looking for this man. Luckily, the uncle was found, captured, and put in jail for endangering the welfare of a minor, and they little toddler was put in custody of his grandmother.

Analysis: This article was written yesterday, September 23, 2016, and this video by the identified man, Lamel Yancey, was uploaded to the internet the day before, September 22, 2016. The author of this article, Ronaldo Zenteno, mainly remains not opinionated, but I truly think one of the main reasons of this article is to bring the awareness of drug use. More and more, people are turning their money to drugs, but the fact that Yancey brought this small child into the situation just escalates the problem. The continual act of introducing kids to drugs so early can be very problematic, and this will just increase the amount of druggies in the world. I am really glad that this man was jailed, but I'm still upset that this poor child had to go through this.

Synthesis: This event reminds me a lot of the 19th and 20th century War On Drugs. In 1919, the 18th Amendment to the Constitution was passed which prohibited the actions of selling, manufacturing, and distributing of alcohol. This led to the 1937 Marijuana Act, which did the same actions, but to drugs, as the cannabis industry had been growing and affecting many people. This led to an uproar of opposition to the law, as well as people in favor of it. This happened almost 100 years ago, and from Yancey's incident in today's time shows that the war on drugs is still an event that affects our society still. Overall, I believe the fight between pro-drug users and anti-drug users that started way in the 1800's will last for many centuries to come.

  1. This was well blogged by you. It is disturbing that a 17 year old finds it necessary to introduce a toddler to marijuana, but the pro and anti-drug war will be a continued battle.

  2. This is so disturbing and it worries me for the future generation and what sort of habits they will develop from bad influences and parenting today. I feel bad for the toddler that had to go through this mess, but I'm glad the man who did it is now in jail and won't corrupt any more children!

  3. I can't believe someone actually offered their toddler marijuana. It's really unfortunate that this three year old boy will have to grow up with this unfortunate story.

  4. I cannot believe he is so young and was offered marijuana at such a young age.

  5. I am glad justice was served and the 17 year old was persecuted. It's crazy what people do to innocent children.

  8. That poor child could have been severely hurt just because someone thought it was funny. I'm glad that person is getting the punishment he deserves.

  9. This is absolutely shocking. Who knows if that was the only time that child was offered marijuana by this man. This child's health could be greatly affected because someone put him in risk to gain popularity on social media.

  10. When a child's guardian cannot be trusted with said child's safety, it really makes you wonder about the past of the guardian's mental state, and the future of the child's mental state due to this event.

  11. I think that smoking marijuana in the form of a blunt could definitely be harmful to a 3 year old who's lungs are not fully developed, however I also know that cannabis can be used for a lot of good, even in children. I think people need to become more aware of the benefits and not make automatic assumptions about things unless they are educated on the matter. I think that in this circumstance, the drug was not being used in the best interest of the child, and that the uncle was being dumb and reckless. I don't think he deserves a long sentence, though, especially when people get off scott-free for crimes that are far far worse. This is a really interesting debate, thanks for sharing, Liam!

  12. Things like this really make you question peoples sense of humor. If something puts someone else in potential danger, it is not funny or cute.
