Mall Fire in Russia - Lauren Rothert

Sunday afternoon, a mall in Russia was packed with shoppers and cinema goers. In the midst of shopping, a blaze broke out spreading throughout the mall. Fire exits were blocked and an alarm system was turned off, causing 64 deaths, many of them children. Around 10 people are still missing, along with 10 in the hospital. During the fire, around 100 people were evacuated, witnesses also said they saw people jumping from windows desperate to escape. The Winter Cherry shopping mall opened in 2013 and has an overall area of 23000 square meters. It also includes a parking lot for 250 cars, shops, bowling, a children's center, and a petting zoo. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

This is so sad, but I am curious as to what started this deadly fire. The mall was four stories, so for the fire to spread so far, it had to of been powerful. I hope those who were able to evacuate are safe, and my thoughts are with the families and friends who are grieving a loved one. I hope we are able to avoid things like this in the future.

This is a really crazy accident. I'm curious as to why the exits were blocked and the alarms turned off. This is a very strange situation and I'm interested to know the cause of the fire.
