Alaska Legalizes Pot -Hadassah Lai

Following Colorado legalizing marijuana, voters passed the Alaska Marijuana Legalization ballot in November. This means that people over aged 21 or older can now legally use marijuana. However, there are limits to this law. People can't have more than one ounce of marijuana on them, and they cannot grow more than four ounces at home. Also, consuming marijuana in public and driving is illegal. So although this law gives marijuana smokers some leeway, no one can legally make a living selling the drug.

So now, pot smokers can add Alaska to their bucket list, along with California and Colorado. I think that this is very interesting and I relate it back to how the federal government can make such a big decision for its state. This is completely separate from the national government. I think that there will be more state in years to come to legalize marijuana.

  1. I'm pretty sure that even if it's legal in Alaska, they're still going to have more than one ounce at home. Good reference to the federal government!

  2. Having pot legal or not in states does not stop gangs and dealers from doing business. Having it legal in states provides for the states economics because they are now able to gain profit from it and control productions.

  3. Legalizing any illegal drug will not increase or decrease usage. It might within the first couple of months due to people being curious, but the people who are doing it now will continue to do it whether it's legal or not. Legalizing drugs is honestly the most logical thing to do because all the money that is going towards the "enemies" in the war on drugs could go towards our nation's government and despite it getting rid of many jobs, it'll also create multiple jobs as well.
