As of midnight on Thursday, NYC has gone 12 full days without one reported homicide. According to modern records and the NYPD, that's a record. The streak had been the longest since the NYPD began recording statistics with a computerized program called Compstat in 1994, said a police representative. A police representative also said that the last reported homicide was February 1 (Super Bowl Sunday) in Upper Manhattan. The NYPD says they believe the improvements are due to the new policing tactics they've been enforcing.
I think it is so refreshing to hear about improvements (even small) being made in our world. I hope that their policing tactics cause another record-breaking amount of days without homicides and other crimes, and that maybe their tactics will spread to other areas and prevent crime.

I also wrote on this and while it is positive that NYC was murder-free for almost two weeks, it should still be shocking that it the record is so minuscule.

Its strange that an event like that is a good thing. 12 days should be seen as a bad thing and we should strive for more days
ReplyDeleteI think 12 days is good for NYC especially considering last month, they had 2 murders within 5 days in Times Square
ReplyDeleteThis is scary to know that this many people are murdered. - Quentin Noble
