NYC 12 Days No Murder by Lydia Petree, 4th Period

Friday night, NYC modern record of twelve days without a murder ended. This is the longest recorded streak since the NYC Police department began electronically recording investigations in 1944. Even though this is a good thing, this year there has been a rise in murders since this time last year. The murder that ended the streak was multiple gunshot wounds to a twenty-eight year old man. The police chief said he didn't want to talk about it for fear he would jinx it.

This streak of no crime is similar to the environment in the American colonies when people were just settling in and around Jamestown. Utopian settlements began to crop up, such as the Quakers, where people would live a set and harmonious way of life. Another big influence in these new homes was Protestantism. This kept the morality of people in check and strict. These were times, which, like NYC, there would have been very little to no crime.
