Mardi Gras- Raliegh Jones

Today, many people celebrated Mardi Gras. Over the past weekend, thousands gathered in New Orleans for colorful parades and celebrations in preparation for Lent, or just for the fun of it. People came from all over the country to celebrate this long tradition with baby cakes, purple, green and gold beads, and hundreds of parades. These celebrations only happen once a year and it's treated like St. Patrick's where there is heavy drinking involved. Mardi Gras is the day before Lent starts, also called Fat Tuesday. Many people give up a favorite item or thing they like to do for Lent, and the day before it starts they binge out on that certain thing. During Mardi Gras, the celebrations are crazy, and by crazy I mean, don't give a care crazy (Flashing).

Mardi Gras is a crazy celebration that happens once a year. This celebration can be related to history because throughout americas past, traditions play a big part in our culture. For example holidays, those only come once a year but it are well anticipated and enjoyed. The major holidays are like christmas, thanksgiving, halloween, etc. But Mardi Gras will fall under that category of minor holidays that are well enjoyed.
