Children with Polio-like Illness (Elizabeth Muscari p6)

Bailey Sheehan, a representative of a new group of children, came down with flue symptoms that eventually paralyzed her legs, neck, and arms when she was seven years old. Bailey's symptoms resembled those of a polio patient's in the 1950's . Today, doctors are able to rule out that Bailey is one of 112 children across 34 states with scut flaccid myelitis, almost identical to polio.

APUSH- This relates to APUSH through the fact that we have continually found resolutions and cures to infections and diseases such as polio, smallpox, and influenza. While this isn't so much an outbreak, it still shows that diseases and infections can resurface and mutate leaving us looking for new answers and breakthroughs in medical technology.
