40 years of Comedy- Mackenzie McGregor 6th period

Comedy has become a major part of American entertainment. The popularity of comedy occurred in the 1920s starting with radio. The trend of comedy continued into films and live entertainment. That being said, it is wonderful to see that comedy has been so popular that a television show based upon comedy has lasted for 40 years. I am talking about the NBC comedy show Saturday Night Live. The show began in 1975 and has been a major comedic force ever since. No matter what age, everyone can at least name one comedian or sketch that was on the show. The show celebrated its 40th season  by having a 3 1/2 hour show on Sunday night with as many former hosts, cast members, and musical guests as they could find. The show was opened by the ridiculously funny duo, Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake, doing an opening number based upon the different catch phrases that have aired on the show. The show continued by having all the celebrities take part in the show, whether as a character, introducing another star, or being in the audience and occasionally having some funny input. The show did a wonderful job of packing 40 years into one show. The popularity of the show portrays the effect comedy has had on the American culture.
