US not as Free as we think? - Veronica Nichols P2
The United States is ranked 49th out of 180 countries dropping three places from last year. This makes this years ranking the worst its been since 2007. These rankings each year are based on violations of freedom of information. However it is not just in the US that freedom of the press has been declining two thirds of the one hundred eighty countries on the list preformed less well this year then they have in years past. In the United States specifically the New York Times journalist James Risen was pressured by the government to reveal his sources. They did back off in that case but in other cases such as the Wikileaks they continue their crusade for information.

I've always considered America to have the most freedom in gaining information, this is completely shocking.

I agree with Lauren. The US to me always seemed kinda free with press, although much was hidden and limited, but I did not know it was getting that bad. No, the US has never quite as free as many people think it is, but this is a major decline in a freedom that has usually been much better than other countries.
