Trump's postion on DACA- Sanaya Gangal

Summary of article(s):
     Awaiting Donald Trump's announcement on whether or not he is discarding DACA permanently, is being anticipated by young, undocumented immigrants, otherwise known as "dreamers." DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) was instituted by the Obama administration in June 2012 stating that certain illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as minors are permitted to receive a two-year period of deferred action from deportation. This policy also grants them the opportunity to gain a work permit for the eligibility to have a job and make a living like anyone else living in the United States.
     So far, for the past five years, this policy has kept thousands of immigrants safe from the dreadful thought of being sent back to their birth country. As a result, a numerous amount of these teens and young adults have been able to pursue an education, possess a drivers license, and even buy homes without the fear of having to vacate it if a setback occurs. All of these privileges that undocumented immigrants obtain are accomplished legally because of DACA.
     Counteracting this hospitable decision to keep immigrants safe, President Trump tells sources that he is planning to discontinue this program and reverse Obama's policy. Young immigrants that felt secure in a country they call home because of Obama’s policy are now being torn apart by President Trump's deceitful implementations. During the time that Trump was running for president, he and his administration lied to the public about how "{they} love the dreamers" and will "work something out" for them. This promise obviously isn't true. While he speaks out about DACA now, he states that he wants to "immediately terminate it." Consequently, if he proceeds with scrapping DACA, it could result in the deportation of at least 800,000 immigrants.

Analysis of Article(s):
     As I was researching information about DACA and reading articles about the situation, I noticed that many of the writers' viewpoints were biased; the majority of them were against Trump's views. This made is so much easier for me to write about this topic because like the author of the articles, I too am opposed to the president’s perspective.

     The timing of DACA's situation is somewhat not a surprise. Ever since Trump became president, he has been persistent in trying to get rid of immigrants and do everything in his power to repeal any laws Obama has created.

     Similar situations like this DACA affair have occurred more than once. For example, he threatened to banish Muslims from the United States, he forbade people from certain countries (Libya, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Somalia) from coming to the U.S., and he wants to build a wall that separates U.S. and Mexico. All these examples involve Trump's discriminatory point of view towards different races.

     The significance of these articles shows that President Trump is hammering down on immigrants and that his overall goal is to deport them all back to their country. If DACA is completely banned -and the supreme court can't come up with a counter act to replace this policy- then it might lead to the deportation of more and more immigrants.

  1. Though I am afraid that DACA will be terminated, looking at the history of Trump's promises, like you pointed out, I now think that the likely hood of the banning of DACA is very low.

    1. I totally agree with you guys. If his "wall" has anything to say about this situation, I believe the chances of the DACA program being terminated is very low. Still, the possibility is there and lately it seems like anything is possible...
