Our ignorant President Donald Trump continued his rant against NFL players who take a knee during the national anthem at his joint press conference with the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, calling it an "important situation." "I wasn't preoccupied with the NFL. I was ashamed of what was taking place," (which was a peaceful protest for racial equality!) Trump said when he was asked if he should've been focused on offering assistance to Puerto Rico. Trump also commented on Monday night's Dallas Cowboys -Arizona Cardinals game. During the game, Cowboys players and owner Jerry Jones linked arms and knelt before the national anthem. While it played they still were linking arms to show unity. In the beginning, Trump pointed out booing and "great anger" when they knelt and also he wrote of the team's standing for the anthem, "Big progress being made."Moral of the story is more people are standing up against the social injustice in this country and it is not disrespectful to the U.S. or the military for exercising your right to protest when and how you want, you would be doing yourself and the country a disservice if you didn't use your voice.
I would personally like to thank the players that participated in these protests that have been happening. This country is really great and amazing but part of it is messed up and people need to become aware that they have to the right to protest and they have a say in what happens in this country. In history, this is connected to Dr. Martin Lurther King's peaceful protests and speeches as well.

The people who kneeled in protest are exercising their right to free speech and I think it's important that they're using their positions of importance to make a statement and provoke change.

ReplyDeletePeaceful and more specifically silent protest are no damage to our society. If there is a priest against a topic it's probably because it needs to be addressed. I believe we should stand up for what we believe in and when celebrities do it it makes a more effective impact on our society .

ReplyDeleteI believe that the kneeling some NFL players have been doing during the National Anthem are of no harm to our society. Though some may believe that it is disrespectful to veterans, post war veterans themselves have come forward and spoken their opinions, and they do not feel as if they are being disrespected.

I'll play devils advocate and say that I slightly disagree with the players kneeling during the national anthem. As i mentioned in a previous comment on another blog post, many vets died to see that flag flown, and I'm sure they would want people to treat it with the respect it deserves. I'm not saying that their cause is bad, but perhaps the execution is poor in that it caused lots of controversy and offended many folks who didn't need to be offended.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't entirely agree with what they are doing and wouldn't do it myself, they aren't doing anything illegal or something that they should get fired for. They are just exercising on of the rights as U.S. citizens.
