Miles Shickman

In Iraq, the Kurdish region recently held a successful vote to secede from Iraq and create their own nation. This is technically meaningless, but so was the Declaration of Independence. This will stand as a powerful point of argument in discussions with the central Iraqi covernment. The government of Iraq, however, is trying desperately to hold on to the Kurdish region because of its natural oil supply. The entire rest of the world (except Israel) had warned them not to hold this vote, because it would destabilize the peace, but the Kurds are too proud to stay in Iraq. Personally, I support them.

  1. Do you think that the wider world would have had such a negative reaction to the vote, were it not for the Kurdish region's oil supply?

    1. I don't think so. People only starting getting into people's business if it's politically or economically beneficial.

    1. The difference here is that the Kurds want their own nation, whereas multiple two-state solutions were offered to the Palestinians, but were rejected because they want for Israel not to have a nation.
