Teachers Protest- JJ Jankovsky

April 30, schools in Colorado and Arizona remain closed due to teachers protesting for higher wages and better benefits. Arizonas governor is currently working on negotiations for them. This connects back to history for me when the women in America wanted equal pay to men. They would stop at nothing to gain the equality they deserved! They work just as hard as men, just like teachers work really hard!

Shayne Grant: John McCain announces last term

Senator John McCain has announced in his new book that his current term in office will be his last. The Arizona Senator has been battling Stage 4 brain cancer for the past year which is a partial motivation for him to step down. He know is using this to speak his mind without fears of reelection campaigns. He states that he will continue to vote on his conscience and is glad to be getting out of the rough political climate. McCain was critical of Trump and how he handles situations and he hopes to see the return of political compromise stating as eloquently as possible, "you're damn right, I'm a champion of compromise!"

Senator McCain has been apart of my life since a very young age and I am sad to see him leave Congress. Throughout his tenure, he has repeatedly shown to be as non-partisan as possible. He has defied the Republican status quo while still remaining true to his conservative roots. My hope is that we can all learn from him to use his skills in office. This is similar to President Washington's Farewell Address which called for non-paritsan fighting and to stay united; also both realized when their time to go was and did not wait until death to part from the offices.

Us Military sees spike in sexual assault reports- Sophie Sandoval

Reports of sexual assault has increased by 10% since 2017. People have reported being sexually assaulted even in the military. However the pentagon states that the number of victims are reducing which is good. During these 10 years the government has made an improvement in the number of victims. The government sees it as even though the number of victims is decreasing doesn't mean their job is done. The Marine Corps saw sexual assaults increase by 14.7%. The military is now supporting that the victims of sexual assault come forward so other know they are not alone.

I think that this is good that the numbers are decreasing but it is still heartbreaking that people would force themselves sexually on an innocent person. This is an invasion of privacy by far and should have way more harsh consequences.

Nurses rejected- Melanie Escalante

At a time when Americans need to be treated and tended to, there is a shortage in nurses due to retirement and reluctance to hire new ones. Many who want to be nurses have been denied the ability to do so because of competition and lack of steady teachers.
I know that they want only the best to care for sick patients but I feel like there are hidden reasons behind their pickiness. There are people who qualify and have been working hard to do what they love but aren’t receiving help in return. If America wants to reach their goal of having a sustainable amount of nurses in four years then they should reevaluate their techniques. This reminds me of when women weren’t allowed to work even though they had the capabilities and reason to do so. Also when African Americans were denied jobs even though they had the necessary skill to accomplish their tasks.

5-year-old caught in gang crossfire- Sanaya gangal

Summary:
A five-year-old, now recovering in the hospital, was shot in the ankle due to being “caught in a crossfire when somebody started shooting.” The neighbor of the victim stated “It’s not surprising to hear gunshots but to hear that a child was shot, is heartbreaking and terryfiying at the same time”.

Analysis:
The statement that the neighbor made really bugged me because the fact that some places have come to terms with random shootings is concerning. Shootings shouldn’t be something that people nonchalantly claim is normal. A five year old was shot! How is this not alarming to most people?? I hate the damage that guns do and I believe there should be stronger gun laws to prevent things like this from happening.

Elle Holland Current Event

On Monday April 23rd, 25 year old Toronto native Alek Minassian attacked a crowd of civilians, killing 10 and injuring 15. It may be easy to assume that this was an act of terrorism but nothing is confirmed. Either way the possibility that one could easily end the lives of so many innocent people is one we should be concerned with. The lack of protection regarding guns needs to be regulated so that the lives of ourselves and others aren't constantly in jeopardy. Both in our country and in others gun violence is a major issue that needs to be better addressed. Guns are very easily accesible and kill people almost instantly.

Even though we have the right to bear arms in this country (constitutional amendments whoop whoop) does't mean that they should be used for non-protective acts of violence. Guns should be better regulated so they don't end up in the wrong hands for things that could effect so many lives.

Isabella Hambleton- Bain Capital software company makes a fortune after firing workers

A software company owned by Bain Capital brought in a fortune after it fired many of its workers. The company is founded by Mitt Romney. He is now under investigation, by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, for firing workers based on their age and medical condition. It is said they did all of this just to make huge profit on the company to put into their pockets. Since this came out, people have been complaining about people being fired illegally.
This article, written by Josh Kosman, shows us how there is still discrimination within the workplace against older people or medically affected people. People used to discriminate against women in the workplace and now a long time later people are still doing it, just to other people. Hopefully this shows people that this is wrong and no one should be discriminated against.

Miadora Ibanez- Women Fighting Sexism in Jazz Have a Voice. And Now, a Code of Conduct

Summary-
"We have a voice" is an organization that's trying to fight sexual harassment found in the music industry. They came up with a program that's divided into two main focuses: commitment and definition. The commitments are a series of specific answers to the question, “How can we commit to creating safe spaces in the performing arts?" The definitions are addressing sexual harassment in the workplace, and what it looks like; and what “consent" really means. The main idea though was brought out by  vocalist  and multi-instrumentalist Jen Shyu which stated: “We want to have more emphasis on women leading — to have that as the norm rather than the exception.”

Analysis-
This article was written by Giovanni Russonello, on his profile is says he strongly cares about the following:
  • Civil Rights and Social Action
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Education
  • Human Rights
  • Politics
  • Poverty Alleviation
  • Social Services

This can be connected to the women's right movement which started in 1848 at the Seneca falls convention, and the women's suffrage movement through the 20th century towards present day.

Sued and Accused | Mica Stout

Roy Moore, failed Alabama senate candidate, sued 3 women who accused him of sexually assaulting them. Melissa Isaak stated that it was filed accusing him to let the people know the reality. Leigh Corfman, Beverley Nelson, and Tina Johnson were the three women. Corfman said that when she was 14, and him 32, he sexually abused her, and now that she is in adulthood, she will not let such a thing victimize her again.

Stories like this really annoy me, because if he has some power over others, he cannot use it in an abusive way. Relating it to before, during, and a little after the civil war, slaves were told to do anything by people who believed they had superiority. Any small ounce of power can fall into the hands of people who don't know how to utilize it in a good way.

Jordan Jimenez - U.S and the Iran Nuclear Deal

Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian president, wanted to preserve to Iran nuclear deal, but has accused the United States breached the agreement, criticizing it before Donald Trump's decision about whether to abandon the deal or not. Rouhani has also said that, "fear and ambiguity for different countries and businesses for their relations with Iran," was caused by Trump administration's negative comments about the deal, having the possibility to damage the country's economy.
In all honesty, I'm not really sure what to think about this whole situation because I don't know that much about it. I would have to read up on it more until I can fully form an educated opinion, but from the things I do know, I just hope that tensions don't increase between the U.S and Iran. The last thing the States need right now is another country who hates our guts, so hopefully nothing drastic will happen.

Ellie Bush current event

A Pennsylvania jury found Bill Cosby guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault on Thursday, one of the first major criminal convictions since the beginning of the #MeToo movement and a vindication for the dozens of women who said that the comedian known as “America’s Dad” drugged and sexually abused them. In most of those cases, the statute of limitations passed long before the women came forward. But in 2015, Cosby was charged with the 2004 assault of Andrea Costand, who said Cosby had given her pills in his suburban Pennsylvania home that left her incapacitated and then molested her.

It is very disheartening to find out that some celebrities who are supposed to be role models are not who they seem. Bill Cosby is one of the last people that I would’ve expected to be accused of sexual assault, which just goes to show not everyone is exactly how they present themselves.
This could be connected and synthesized to Bill Clinton’s presidency when he was accused of sexual assault.

Jennifer Huynh - 'Makes us stronger': Van attack witness says Toronto vigil brought city together

SummaryThousands of mourners attended Sunday night’s ‘Toronto Strong’ vigil for the victims of last Monday’s deadly van attack. The interfaith vigil to remember the ten people killed and more than a dozen injured in the attack took place at Mel Lastman Square in the northern part of the city and near the scene of the tragedy. Many people who have attended the vigil have praised the event, calling it wonderful and saying it was actually very indicative of them as a community, that it was really nice to see all the different faiths coming together, and that it just demonstrates that these dark times makes them stronger as they band together. Before the vigil, John Filion, city counselor for the Willowdale area where the attack took place, told CTV News Channel the ceremony would be a chance for Toronto to heal and that it’ll be a real opportunity for the community and the city to come together to express their collective grief, but also their collective hope and resilience.

AnalysisThe City of Toronto led organization of the vigil, but the event was the culmination of several grassroots efforts which sprang up in the days following the attack. The vigil was surrounding the idea that in times like this, no one feels they should be a bystander, and that veryone’s coming forward and assisting as best as they possibly can. Groups like Faith in the City and the Toronto Area Interfaith Council worked to help organize the vigil, while Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama' at Canada distributed flowers to attendees. John Joseph-Mastandrea, member of the Toronto Area Interfaith Council, said in the past week, several witnesses and people who’ve lost loved ones in the attack have visited to look for advice. For some people who attended the vigil, it was their first time being exposed to leaders of other faiths. With all their differences and diversity, there is a strong commonality in regards to community and looking after each other. This event brought a community together in a similar way to how after the Boston Massacre, the Americans became more united and started going against Great Britain towards the development of the American Revolution.

Boy Scouts become Co-Ed-Adriann Wrice

https://www.offthegridnews.com/current-events/boy-scouts-self-castration/
The Boy Scouts prestigious nation wide club has now decided to become coed. The name is now scouts BSA. The cause for the change was to become more inclusive to the changing needs of society. So far 3,000 girls have joined the cub scouts.

This is a very controversial topic even for me. I however believe that the seepeation between Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts isn’t about gender. I believe it’s about teaching young kids to learn how to survive in the world with entrenpurniships in Girl Scouts and camping skills in Boy Scouts. I think it is important for everyone to have a chance to learn from each side but I do think that they should keep it separate. I believe that a possibleoutcome for this argument is to create a scout that has the fundamentals of both Boy and Girl Scout into one, while still providing the separate scout for people who would like the basic scouting. I believe this is important to US history because it shows how we are growing as a nation and learning to accept the views of others more openly.

Ronny Jackson Scandal - Sam Wood 4-30-17

Ronnie Jackson has been the white house physician for the last 3 presidents. Donald Trump nominated him to be the head of the VA cabinet. The senate delayed their vote in order to find out more information about him. There were allegations of sexual harassment, being drunk on trips, and leading a toxic work environment. Before the senate voted, Dr. Jackson withdrew his nomination.

This perfectly illustrates Trump's difficulty in finding qualified people who will work for him. Furthermore, it shows his lack of planning and strategy. Some people think that there has not been a more unqualified presidential cabinet since Andrew Jackson's Kitchen Cabinet.

North and South Korea Set Bold Goals: A Final Peace and No Nuclear Arms
The leaders of North and South Korea agreed on Friday to work to remove all nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula. They also agreed to pursue talks with the US about declaring a “official end to the Korean War”. This was an especially big deal because this was the first time a North Korean leader had stepped on South Korean territory in a long while.

This relates to the US becoming involved in the Korean War in an effort to “contain” communism.

Henry Haas-New harassment guidelines cause some controversy

today the justice department of the United States released a new policy on sexual harassment, describing various steps of the legal process in more detail, as well as clearly stating the rights and processes that will come with cases that come up dealing with this issue. Many, especially in the LGBT community, however, feel the new policy is lacking.
The main reason stated for this seems to be because of a sort of protection of the harasser in the accusation. They state that this is due to the judges feeling scared for their reputation if they are sued by those who proved to not be a harasser in alleged sexual assault. The counter argument for this, obviously, is that the same could be said for the victims. If they sue due to a faulty ruling, it could look even worse for the judicial system. While I agree that some of the points made in the 48 pg long report are a bit strange, I feel that overall it was very well said, and that those against it should wait until they have proof against its merit before criticizing the new plan. These are just my thoughts, however.

In Kabul two suicide bombings killed 29 people and journalists trying to cover the story. Over 45 people were injured. The first bomb went off around 8 by the US embassy and government buildings are located. The society announced that 7 reporters including cameramen were killed. Facts have been thrown together and announced that this attack was by ISIS and involved them killing as many citizens as possible. US still have many questions and further investigating is involved,

This is extremely sad. It seems like we cannot stop ISIS reporters were trying to do their job and than they got killed. I would be very scared to go over to those parts because its always something that is happening. We never know what is going to happen one day it seems fine and than the next its not.

Iran has created mass graves holding over 5,000 victims each of the Iraq-Iran war, and just recently began paving over them to create buildings and roads. These mass graves were used in the 1980's to hold victims of political genocide. The only reason this war ended in the first place was because of a UN involvement to create a cease-fire between the two middle eastern countries, thus ending the need to have these mass graves. Iran is moving forward and burying their past for progress in the future, but the death toll that lies beneath their newly paved roads will last longer than a lifetime.

Kim X Trump Summit // Trevor Turnbow

In wake of the revolutionary action of Kim Jong Un crossing into the denuclearized zone between North and South Korea to meet with the leader of South Korea, a summit is in talks between President Trump and Kim Jong Un at the same spot of the DMZ. This article references many historic moments that could occur, and all the photo ops! Many are afraid of Trump falling into appeasing Kim, but he asserts that he won't back down on issues and that denuclearization of the Korean peninsula is of the upmost importance.
This is a really good direction for the world to be heading as the tensions have been very high about this issue. Parallels can be drawn to many past events in US history, the Cuban Missile Crisis is an example of countries playing the imitation game with these types of weapons. This diffusion of tensions is also similar to Nixon's ideas of Detente, Nixon and Trump are following very similar paths in the Presidency.

A gunman opened fire on customers inside a Waffle House restaurant. James Shaw Jr. was able to take the weapon away from the gunman, after the two briefly wrestled on the ground. This article is centered around the idea of the dangers of gun violence. This article shows relevance today just as it did in the past, because it shows that there is still action needed to be taken in terms of the leniency that is allowed when it comes to the possession of guns.

Sadie Schiermeyer- Border Security Blowout

Trump exploded at the homeland security secretary at a cabinet meeting Wednesday. The topic was over border security, an issue the president is known to get worked up about. It is claimed that the secretary, Kirstjen Nielson, managed to stand her ground on the issue and even use the law to support herself. An unnamed source says that after the showdown there are rumors of Nielson’s resignation, but it has not been confirmed.

Trump was a real estate agent. He didn’t exactly have the largest role in government before this. It frustrates me because he’s yelling at somebody to do there job better, which she can’t possibly do. There will always be loopholes and things you can’t control so the secretary is doing the best in her situation right now. Also, if he made legal immigration easier and more acceptable, then maybe people wouldn’t have to hide under the law.

In the past four years, 103 Uber drivers have been accused of sexual assault from their passengers. John David Sanchez, an Uber driver, was arrested for having videos of himself raping women and young teenagers on his computer. Sanchez is one of many. At least 31 drivers have been convicted of crimes ranging from forceful touching to rape. U er has come out with a statement saying that they wish to be apart of the solution. They plan to host 50 community forums to help drivers and riders share their issues.
This article was written by Sara Ashley O'Brien, Nelli Black, Curt Devine, and Drew griffin. This artucle is very enlightening because people need to learn to be on the lookout for unsafe drivers when using Uber. the company os great and all, but they need to take more precaution before making someone an Uber driver. However, its good that Uber os taking somewhat of a step to keep all riders and drivers safe. This article can be related to Ford's model T because that was the first real American car and seeing how much one object can do is insane.

Our current president is digging himself into a larger hole hurting his political career. Throughout the past few months of him in office many people have noticed parallels between him and Richard Nixon's career. Both were ex-movie stars who blindly ran for office with conservative values. Charges brought upon Trump on Monday bring more of a comparison of him and Nixon than ever before. He is being charged with tax fraud (along with a few other people) and making false statements about contact with Russia. Nixon however aided in a White House break-in and lied about it. Many people are currently hoping to impeach Trump; the gate meant for Nixon before he resigned from office. This article is very informative on the current situation Trump is in and what may happen to him in the future. Will his future end up like our former President Nixon or will he continue to dictate the American society? Many Americans hope that he will soon share the downfall of Nixon but we will have to see where that goes.

Yellowstone is bouta blow up??(Not Clickbait)-Ellen Fritz

Yellowstone's Steamboat Geyser has erupted for the third time in two months! It doesn't erupt very often but it gets real big when it does. The April Steamboat Geyser eruptions released about 200-400 cubic meters of water each, about 10 times the amount of old faithful. The scientists don't know why tf this is happening but it shows theres tectonic plate shifting underneath Yellowstone, causing eruptions.

I think this is pretty cool but also quite spooky. One of the theories of how the world is going to end is that magma buildup under yellowstone will cause a huge explosion, covering the sun and causing extinction (kinda like Pompeii).

Brooke Simpson-Trump Tax Cut Could Reduce Overseas Profit Hoarding

Trump Tax Cut Could Reduce Overseas Profit Hoarding by this Much

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed in December will reduce profits by US companies stashed in other countries by an estimated $65 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.  The corporate tax rate has been lowered from 35% to 21%.  Now the CBO says that there is less incentive for a company to move property to a lower-tax country, which they have previously been doing, and leaving less money in the higher tax country.  The CBO is also saying that the US will be a less appealing place to stash debt, giving the US net international investment a positive push.  Another part of the act changed the US global tax system to be territorial, so that companies are only taxed once in the country where the profits are earned.  Bringing money into America was a big part of the 2016 election, and now more than 400 companies have increased domestic investments because of the act.

The article was written by Brittany De Lea on April 30, 2018 for FOXBusiness.  The article is important because taxes are a very sensitive topic for almost every American, and people have really different opinions on how to deal with taxes and how much should a person or business be taxed.  The act seems like a win for Republicans because Republicans typically want as much money in the economy as there can be.  The article can be compared to George H.W. Bush’s promise to have no new taxes, Donald Trump promised to lower taxes, and Republicans are hoping the president will follow through completely with that promise, because HW Bush was almost forced to raise taxes.

Mars setback.

A critical part to NASAs rover mission to mars had broken earlier this month. The 2020 mission's heat shield was going through pressure testing when it had, all of a sudden, cracked. The intended mission is to send a six-wgeeled rover to mars to collect data on the possibility for for life on the planet. This data would be used for future missions to send humans to mars. Engineers at NASA and lockheed martin are investigating reasons for why the shield had broke.

If feel that this article is important because it serves an important purpose for future missions to mars . This has been the second setback recently for the mars mission. However it is good to have discovered the problem before it was too late and can be used in the development of future missions.

Youth in Revolt: Five Powerful Movements Fueled by Young Activists - National Geographic https://apple.news/AFf8niwgISa2VWGrM52Q6pA

The March for Our Lives Movement is one that has showcased an impressive and colossal effort by students nationwide to protest and call for reform of the present gun accessibility laws following the numerous massacres of school shootings.

All five of these powerful movements remind me of the counterculture movement largely led by young, college-aged Americans. They fueled arguably the most influential politics of the time period, as these young activists are.

There have been a shortage in nurses because of the increased number of retirements in the past few years. People have been deprived of opportunity for the maximum learning they could gather on this profession. Nurses are the highest population of caretakers that work day and night and do not receive the proper recognition they deserve. This can be related to a time when women and African Americans were deprived of jobs because of the societal understanding that they were not capable of doing such skilled work. It’s just so frightening how much history truly repeats itself throughout America’s history.

Manon McCollum – Kim Says He’d End North Korea Nuclear Pursuit for U.S. Truce

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/29/world/asia/north-korea-trump-nuclear.html

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un told South Korean president that he would stop the nuclear testing program if the US signed a treaty and agreed to finally end the Korean war. Many analysts warn that these promises of denuclearization could be unfounded, and that Kim Jong-us has said similar things in the past and not followed through. However, in the wake of mounting tensions in the Korean peninsula, even seeing lip service paid to reconciliation comes as a welcome change.

I am cautiously hopeful about these developments, though, because the south korean president seems to think that this could be the beginning of the end of this more than 60 year conflict.

This situation began in the 1950s with the beginning of the Korean War. As a result of the US's newly minted containment policy, the nation jumped in when the communist forces began to infiltrate the Korean peninsula. The war ended not in a peace treaty, but in a stalemate, and the war is still not technically over; maybe, until now.

Hall of Fame baseball player Mike Schmidt under fire for inappropriate 'Me Too' remarks during game?? KLARK JOHNSON

Mike Schmidt, Baseball Hall of Famer and broadcaster , was put under fire after making a sexist joke and trying to cover it up with the 'Me Too' Movement. According to the New York Daily News, he refereed to his wife as a dish washer. After realizing the nature of his comment, he try's to defend himself with the 'Me Too' movement.

The 'Me Too' movement has been a very controversial movement in america lately so for him to make a sexist remark not having anything to do with the movement received some backlash; similar to the feminist movements we have studied in APUSH. “Mike Schmidt is a clown and an embarrassment,” Twitter user wrote. “Get him out of the booth.” His broadcasting teammate also commented that he "dropped the ball" by not correcting him after the statement was made.

Mike Schmidt has been accused of making jokes that were sexist. He made a joke about his wife calling her a dish washer which upset many of his fans.  Mike tried to make a recovery with the "#Me too movement". But that created a backlash with his fans and it is a controversial movement.  Many of his fans are now mad at him and want him gone with people on Twitter asking people to help get him off the booth. This reminds me of when Bill Clinton said that he didn't have sexual relations with that women which created a lot of backlash for him and many people wanted him gone from office which he soon was impeached.

Amazon made Prime indispensable - here's how

Amazon prime was launched in 2005 for the price of $79 per year. Amazon prime provides free 2 day shipping for amazon prime members. There are now over 100 million members, and Amazon is now able to raise the price to $119 per year. (it raised to $99 in 2014) The price is not the only thing that has changed about Amazon. Amazon now offers deliveries on home items such as groceries, restaraunt deliveries, and other everyday necessities/household appliances. My family and I have an Amazon prime membership, and although we definitely do not like the price increase, it is very likely that we will continue our membership next year. We order so many things from amazon, so a price rise will not stop us from continuing our membership. I feel like this is also true for a lot of other indiviuals. This shows how much our society has advanced and how much we now rely on technology.

Diaz-Canel’s election is seen in many ways as the “passing of the torch” to the new generation. (He is nearly 30 years younger than the outgoing president, Raul Castro.) He represents an age group of people who were not alive yet when Cuba’s Communist Revolution took place. When he was young, Diaz-Canel had long hair and enjoyed listening to rock music. He even supported an LGBT-friendly cultural center. In later years, however, he became a longtime Communist Party supporter. As a provincial leader and then first vice president, he was the right-hand man to the Castros and a natural choice for their successor.

In a historic summit, leaders of North and South Korea negotiated peace. This shows potential for change like was never believed to be possible. I don’t know how sincere these long term promises are, but if some resolution comes after years and years and years of conflict, there really is hope that the world will become a better place.

Doctors Aren't As Trustworthy As We Thought -Alex Travell

https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/15/health/texas-doctor-medical-fraud-bn/index.html?no-st=1526482684

Ever since I was a kid, I always saw doctors as these perfect, trustworthy people who knew everything, but after reading this article, I now have multiple speculations regarding medical professionals. The fact that this doctor was more concerned about money than the well-being of a patient is ridiculous. His patients trusted him and presumed his integrity; in return, he allegedly engaged in a scheme of false diagnosis and bogus courses of treatment and doled out prescriptions for unnecessary and harmful medications, all for his personal financial gain.

A video shows how 3 police officers throw around a woman in waffle house during an arrest. The video starts with her sitting and the men trying to put her arm behind her back. They then pick her up and throw her to the ground while she had no way to escape and he says he's going to break her arm. Her shirt even came off during the incident but the officers did not care. People from the local area are protesting and calling this racist and over-aggressive. The police and the Waffle House claim that the officers acted correctly but no one deserves to be handled that way.

Do Stronger Gun Laws Stand a Chance? It’s Been an Uphill Battle.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/29/us/gun-control-laws-retro-report.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fus&action=click&contentCollection=us&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=414&pgtype=sectionfront

Summary:

This article talks about how chances for stricter gun laws are looking. He mentions how after every assassination or uprising of an important person in society, government pushed through stricter laws. The N.R.A has been standing back from pushing through another law. President Trump seems unsure about the situation because he keeps backing out and then joining.

Analysis:

I am personally against gun violence. It scares me that there has been many mass shootings at schools which should be a place where we should feel safe.  This relates to history because we all interpret our second amendment right different and want to exercise/limit it differently.

London Hibbs- BOY SCOUTS CHANGES NAME TO BECOMD CO-ED

https://www.offthegridnews.com/current-events/boy-scouts-self-castration/

The Boy Scouts of America organization has officially made plans to change the name Boy Scouts to simply ‘scouts’ and begin accepting female members next year. For years, women’s rights activists have questioned the differences between the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts.  LGBTQIA rights leaders have fought for female to male transgender teens to have the right to join the Boy Scouts, but have often failed because of the BSA’s direct rule that participants must be biologically male and vice Vera with the Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts organization, however, is fighting back against the integration of genders within the scouts. Their directors claim that the Girl Scouts will always remain the premier choice for girls and their families, why presumably want them to only go on things like camping trips with the same gender. If girl schouts remains objectionable to the name change, much competition could arise between the companies over children simply joining an organization that is said to help them become the best versions of themselves.

Flight Horror- Soleil

Another scary incident in which an innocent life was taken. The cause of death however, could have been prevented, in this controversial state of whether to aboard a flight or to stay along track- which ended up being the worst thing to do, as it cost a life. “Brittany Oswell suddenly felt ill about three hours into her flight from Hawaii to Texas. She was dizzy, disoriented and slurring her speech. Then she briefly fainted. A flight attendant on the American Airlines flight in April 2016 tracked down a doctor on board who examined her. She may have had a panic attack, the doctor said. But it soon became clear her condition was far worse. About an hour later, Ms. Oswell, 25, collapsed in a lavatory, defecated and vomited on herself, and threw up on flight attendants who had come to check on her. The doctor returned and this time issued an urgent request to the flight crew: The pilot must land the plane immediately.
The frenzied efforts by her husband and the doctor to save Ms. Oswell, who died three days later in a hospital of a pulmonary embolism, were detailed in a wrongful-death lawsuit filed this month by her family against American Airlines. The lawsuit alleges that the airline was negligent and ultimately contributed to her death because the pilot did not heed the doctor’s pleas to divert the plane and an onboard defibrillator and blood pressure monitor were faulty. After Ms. Oswell boarded the plane and sat down in her window seat, she called her mother to check in and said she would call again when they landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for their connecting flight. But the next call came from her husband. “I could detect in his voice that it was very different,” Ms. Starks said. “He said, ‘Ms. Starks, something happened.” Within several hours, her parents were by her hospital bed in the intensive-care unit of a Dallas-area hospital. Ms. Oswell had limited brain activity and was unconscious and on life support, her parents said. Doctors determined she had suffered a pulmonary embolism — a clot that blocks blood flow to the lungs — on the flight and then had multiple heart attacks. She died three days later. “We still feel as though we are in a dream,” Ms. Starks said.

“Everything still feels very surreal.” This is a truly saddening situation, as it was an unprecedented circumstance, but it could have been prevented. This reminds me of multiple US History scenarios, whether it be about boycotts or even going as far back as the Native Americans relationships towards the Americans, but this event is an awful occurence, and I hope it never repeats.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/26/17164268/stormy-daniels-donald-trump-bible-christian

This article was written earlier today, March 26th, by Jane Coaston, a Senior Politics Reporter at Vox news. It aims to inform people on how even Trump's worst actions are being defended by his supporters.
In the story of King David (the same David who defeated Goliath), he is a leader beloved by all his subjects and supposedly "chosen by God". Though he was married to several women, he committed adultery with another married woman whose husband was off at war, and she got pregnant. To protect himself, he killed the woman's husband. In consequence, David's son with the woman was killed, and he repented for his sins. And there's the difference: Trump has publicly stated that he should not have to ask forgiveness for his actions when he has done nothing wrong. How people are defending Trump's actions with this story reflects major hypocrisy and I just don't understand it. These are the people that are self-proclaimedly so devoted to God and attached to their morals that they should be doing good in the world, not defending evil. As a non-religious person, I can't speak with lots of experience on this, but in my opinion, nobody who's a true, devoted Christian and follows the principles of the Bible would defend a man who's done as many terrible things as Trump

Veterans, Aaron Newsome and Jason Sweatt, have found relief in gardening. In order to relieve their minds from memories in World War II, they have been gardening to distract themselves and they find it very effective. They began developing medical cannabis to help veterans with PTSD from wars because this product could not be prescribed by doctors. It is ironic that an illegal drug can help some of our countries heroes. I think that medical marijuana can be beneficial if it monitored well. If these veterans can see benefits from it then others can too.

Communities in Northeastern Arizona Evacuated for 8,600-acre Tinder Fire - Taylor Townsend

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office has ordered the evacuations of some communities in northeastern Arizona due to the Tinder Fire, which has now burned over 8,600 acres. Evacuations have been ordered for all Moqui Ranchettes, Starlight Pines, Clear Creek, all of Tameron, Ponderosa Pines, Timber Ranch, Blue Ridge Estates, Mongollon Ranches and Pine Canyon. That means about six hundred people evacuated from about one thousand homes in the area.

Though there were about twenty people who refused to leave their homes. At least three thousand people are under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders. There are over five hundred fire fighters working this fire including seven headshot crews. People are also being asked by authorities to take precautions to strong winds and smoke.

Ultra-processed foods linked to increased cancer risk
Researchers discovered that people who eat large amounts of ultra-processed food have a higher risk of cancer. These foods typically have unrecognizable ingredients on the list. These people also seem to be more obese and overweight. The statistics also show this discovery. Nutritionists recommend eating more whole grains, whole fruits, and veggies. People who eat more processed foods are eating less healthy foods, which makes since to this study.
I think this is very important. What you put in your body will love you or hate you. Paying more attention to what those things are could change your life in the long run. It may not be the easiest option, however it will pay off. Its sad to think that we see these discoveries yet people still don't make any changes to there lifestyle.

A teenager’s car was hit by a train in Milwaukee. The teenager disregarded the train signals, and dangerously tried crossing the tracks before the train arrived. The teen’s vehicle spun after being hit, but luckily he/she survived and is resting in the hospital. The injuries have not been released yet.
This event reminds me of the youth culture of the 50s through the 70s. Teenagers were rebelling against traditional values and began to take more of their own actions rather than constantly obeying adults. They found comfort in drugs and alcohol and in other negative ways. The teenager in this particular event chose to disobey the rules and took their own drastic action much like teenagers started doing decades ago.

larsen nichols- Joy Reid hacking debate

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/28/business/media/joy-reid-hacking-msnbc.html

Joy Reid, a host on MSNBC, has recently accused hackers of fabricating homophobic comments onto a decade-old blog she used to run, which was uncovered by a service called the Wayback Machine. There is no proof of hacking yet, and Reid has made transphobic and homophobic comments and tweets in the past, though she has owned up to and apologized for her recent comments and now seems supportive of LGBT issues and advocates. She recently stated that "I can only say that the person I am now is different than the person I was then."

This article was written by Christina Caron at the New York Times earlier today. It aims to inform their audience of Reid's transgressions (and supposed transgressions) and her response to them. Before reading this article, I had no idea who Joy Reid was or that these accusations had occurred. Because the article was written so recently, no one knows yet the validity of Reid's statements and whether or not she was actually hacked. In my opinion, if she's owned up to the comments she's made recently then it doesn't make sense that she wouldn't own up to the comments she made ten years ago. But on the other hand, it's not hard to believe she made that blog post and there was apparently none of the usual signs of hacking. It's impressive though that she's taken responsibility for her recent insensitive and hateful comments, and I hope she continues to do that and also develop more open ideas of different beliefs in the future.

Synthesis: This article can be connected to the Monica Lewinsky scandal during Bill Clinton's  presidency. In both situations, the person accused took accountability for some of the transgressions they committed, but fervently denied others.

It is no new news that drug cause heart problems, but recently surgeons have been making decisions. When people inject the drug meth into their body, their heart has major problems that have to be operated on. Some surgeons have had to say "no" to operating on the same people because they keep injecting themselves with illicit drugs and creating their problem. After replacing two valves one doctor, Dr. Pollard, told his patient that he would not keep helping him and try to fix his 25 year old heart, to which the 25 year old passed shortly after in hospice. He said that it was the hardest thing he had ever done. These procedures typically deal with low income and poverty stricken families.  Many of these drug addicts attain endocarditis, and are prescribed to never use drugs again, though many end up where they started, in the hospital.

This relates to APUSH because of the 60s/70s time period when there were a lot of hippies rebelling and doing drugs. These actually led to major health problems that are still prevalent today.

(MaKaria Harris)Waffle House shooting hero raises over $185K for victims

29 year old James Shaw Jr is credited with saving numerous lives after he fought an AR-15 out of the hands of Travis Reinking. Four people were killed Sunday and several others injured at a Waffle House in  southeast Nashville. On Tuesday, Tennesse state lawmakers honored Shaw for his heroism."You are my hero," said state Rep. Jason Powell, "You are Tennessee's hero."He's raised more than 10 times his $15,000 goal since launching the page Sunday.
Why hasn’t there been a gun reform? Everyone won’t be able to do what James did and if they could why should they have to. This happens too often and is being too casual and normal.

Wolfgang Hunter - North Korean Missile Site

http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/east-asia/article/2143878/north-korea-close-mountain-nuclear-test-site-after-collapse

The North Korean government recently made a statement saying that they are to close their mountain testing site for the experimentation of nuclear weapons, as well as unifying their time zone with that of South Korea. This is probably the biggest move in the 21st century made by North Korea as an effort for unification.

This ties to the political climate of Richard Nixon, who tried (and arguably succeeded) to calm the tensions between the U.S. and the East. Although enemies since the formation of both the U.S.S.R. and the P.R.O.C., efforts were made for future friendly relations.

Terrifying Goose Attacks Golfer

Goose levels golfer, reasserting dominance over all humankind

Source:CNN

Blog Post #3

Summary: A golfer, Issac Couling, was attacked by a guard goose during a golf tournament. He was attending this tournament with the Concord High School golf team, when the goose seeming popped out of nowhere and attacked him. Although they were near geese nest, they were careful to not poke around it.  Couling was uninjured by the geese.

Analysis: Seriously? What? .... Ok..  Geese are terrifying. This has probably been the most interesting article to read that doesn't have to do with politics, shootings, sexual assult cases, etc.  It must really be terrifying to realize that goose is coming for you screeching its head off. This is one of those articles that are probably meant to take people's minds of other things and give them a good laugh or so. So... I really can't think of any historical point to this.

For veterans Aaron Newsom and Jason Sweatt, the only relief that they can find from there painful memories, is cannabis. Since World War II, when post traumatic stress disorder started becoming more common, veterans have turned to horticulture. Horticulture is the practice of gardening as therapy. However sometimes this wasn't even enough for Newsom, so he started secretly growing marijuana to cope with the memories of Afghanistan. His friends and family were supportive of this decision because he was growing it for the right reasons. Through a veteran organization, Newsom met Sweatt who was a weed enthusiast, and from there a business grew. Weed can be expensive, so to make this option more affordable, they sell it to them at discounted prices and 10% of their profits go to veteran organizations. Believe it or not, many doctors recommend marijuana instead of Opioids which is commonly given to veterans, but it often makes things worse and can lead to a higher addiction rate in veterans. There are multiple organizations called Hero Grown and  Weed for Warriors that advocates the use of medical marijuana and gives free handouts in select places around the U.S. Not everyone can just come and get free weed handouts though, you need proof of service, a doctor's recommendation, and a California ID. After receiving vouchers there are meetings where veterans talk about their issues and what strains of cannabis work best.

Weed is fixing problems and bringing people together to create better experiences for everyone. I think its comical that something perceived as illegal and horrible is making such a positive impact on heroes of our nation. This can be related to the temperance and prohibition movement because the 18th amendment prohibited the sale of alcohol and drinking in public which is similar to the illegal state of marijuana. However, now many states have legalized weed and it is becoming more and more popular throughout the nation, mimicking the trend of alcohol back in the 1920s.
