Princess Charlotte is only two and has made a historical breakthrough in a long line of tradition. Kate Middleton gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Monday; however, this does not change Charlotte’s position in the long line to the throne on the basis of her gender. Princess Charlotte is now fourth in line for the throne, making her place before Prince Harry. The Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 was put into place because of legislation ruling. This has changed the upheld tradition, stating that the gender of a royal doesn't give them any higher order ruling because of gender. Although this act was passed in 2013, it didn’t take effect until 2015 with the birth of Princess Charlotte. This makes the new royal baby the first immediate royal family member to be affected by this act since it has taken place. This act can also be a parallel to the Equal Opportunity Employment Act, outlawing discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sex, religion, race, or national origin. This can also be compared to Title IX, giving women more of an equal opportunity in sports and education.
