Waffle House Hero - Lauren Rothert

Early this morning, gunshots tore through a Waffle House in Nashville where a seminude man killed four people. Among the large crowd at the restaurant was James Shaw Jr. who, when the initial gunshots were fired, bolted and hid in a restroom. Shaw kept his eyes and ears open for the gunman, and the second he heard a pause in shots, he ambushed the shooter. During this ambush, he rushed to the gunman and wrestled the rifle out of his hands, tossing it over the counter causing the gunman to flee. While grappling with the gunman, a bullet grazed Shaw's arm, but there was no traumatic injury to him. This heroic act saved countless lives that were also threatened by the gunman. Unfortunately, the shooter escaped and an active manhunt is on for the suspect.

This is so scary! I am very glad that Shaw acted bravely during this awful attack, and was able to save so many people from tragedy. Although four people were killed, this number would have been much larger if it weren't for James Shaw Jr. I hope his courageous act inspires others and that he recovers fully from this experience. I also hope that tragedies like this one emphasize the need to bring all facets of violence to an end.
