Girls in India are taking charge of their safety by learning self-defense moves that may be used to keep them from being sexually assaulted. Police constable Renu has taught a self-defense class to thousands of girls across New Delhi to give them the confidence to stand up for themselves. She has shown girls a combination of taekwondo, karate, and judo moves for the past eight years in public secondary schools and universities. Women in training are taught to verbally arm themselves and speak up against their oppressors and call for the help they need in a time of distress.
Many people agree that Delhi is not safe for girls right now, and many are attacked daily in their own neighborhoods. After an eight year old girl and a 23 year old woman were kidnapped, raped, and brutally attacked, this class is definitely important and potentially lifesaving. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/04/16/world/asia/india-girls-self-defense.html
