On October 18th, the third version of Trump's travel ban will be put into action. The first of the three travel bans was rejected by federal judges because it was precieved that it discriminated against muslims, while the Trump administration argued that it was a "security measure designed to thwart terrorism". The ban effective on October 18th adds Chad, Venezuela, and North Korea to the list of affected countries, as well as the original Libya, Iran, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia on that list. The travel restrictions placed on these countries, all of which (except North Korea) have a prominent muslim population, is disguised as a safety measure when it is true discrimination and racism.
I think this ban had torn the United States further apart. The labels of the political parties continue to divide he American people and prevent actual positive changes from happening. This ban also encourages racist people in America to be outspoken about their views, thus what happened in Charlottesville. Overall, I believe Trump's travel ban to be highly problematic and discriminatory.

Wow, I just read the title and I'm already pissed. The only this the first travel ban accomplished was outrage and racism, what good could possibly come out of this?
ReplyDeleteI know. I have no idea what Trump thinks he's doing and if he has any consideration for the people in the countries affected. I hope the US can continue peaceful relations with Chad after this because they are a prominent ally and their efforts to battle terrorism are important.
DeleteOkay, but this country was built on immigrants except the Natives, that the early European colonists killed a lot of. There is no point in banning people from these countries from coming to the United States. It is just alienating these unfortunate people.
