Zoe Bator- Saudi Arabia to let women drive at last

Saudi Arabia to let women drive at last
Updated 11:06 PM ET, Tue September 26, 2017

Summary: Finally, Saudi Arabia has issued a royal decree that will finally allow women in the country to drive. The crowning of 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has helped lead to this finally happening. Mohammed bin Salman believes in increasing the number of women in the workforce, and to do that, allowing women to finally get behind the wheel was crucial. In fact, ever since Mohammed bin Salman was crowned, a series of changes for the betterment of society have been cycling through. This is all a part of the bigger picture, and what Mohammed bin Salman refers to as "Vision 2030." Vision 2030 is said to be a number of changes that include the involvement of women in the workforce by the year 2030.

Analysis: It's amazing to see where other countries are with gender equality... because I has no idea women weren't even permitted to drive in Saudi Arabia. But, I am so happy that they finally are, because that now makes women in every country around the world able to drive. It's no doubt that gender inequality is still going to be so prevalent in Saudi Arabia, despite the new edition of women into the workforce, but as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wrote on his official Twitter it was "an important step in the right direction." Overall, I'm very glad Mohammed bin Salman is trying to better women's rights and reinvent the economy. It's just shocking to think the level of dehumanization women had and are having to go through in the country.

  2. It's unbelievable how long it took for them to get this simple right. I'm glad to see it finally happening, though

  3. This is a great step in development of Saudi Arabia, but it intrigues me as to why it took so long to give women such a basic right.

  5. This makes me so happy! I personally am terrified of driving but giving people the freedom to go whenever they want whenever they want is so liberating. This gives me hope that all women will have equality in the future.

  6. This is great considering that women in this region have been oppressed for centuries under Islamic ideology. Definitely a step in the right direction
