Are We About to See a Black Hole?

We are a lot closer than you think when it comes to the possibility of actually being able to take pictures of an actual black whole. Charles Gammie, a computational astrophysicist, has given insight on how far along project Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has come along. The telescope is being designed to see the "shadow" that it being cast on the accretion disk by the event horizon. To get this image, though, it would mean having to push the technology in telescopes to its limit by pretty much linking two electronically and pointing them on the object. It will likely not be until December until we learn about any new data.

I find this article interesting because black holes are very complex, massive compact objects in our universe. This new project will give us a giant leap towards learning more about the known universe and I am very excited to see what it to come.

  1. I think this is very cool, because black holes are not easy to come around to.
