Katelyn thompson- conservatives accuse Pope of spreading heresy
http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/25/world/pope-heresy/index.html
Recently, many conservatives catholic scholars and clergy have been accusing Pope Francis of spreading heresy. Because of this, a letter with 40 signatures was sent to the Pope on August 11. It did not contain an accusation of heresy but "supported heretical positions" on "marriage, the moral life and the Eucharist". Pope Francis has not publicly responded to the letter. This article and video was published by CNN.
Personally, since I am not Catholic, I am found it interesting and discovered a better understanding of the Catholic faith from this. It goes to show how much influence a Pope has on the followers of Catholicism and how there are clergy who disagree with the documents that the pope puts forth. This relates back to when the Catholic Church used indulgences to bring money to the church. The church used its followers for money. And then later in the time of King HenryVIII, he decided to go against the church, much like some forms of clergy are today, to divorce.
Despite the accusations against Pope Francis, there is still a large following in favor of him.

It's so interesting that the most influential figure in the catholic religion, the pope, can have such liberal and open minded ideas but the followers still continue on with the archaic way of thinking.
ReplyDeletethe pope is one of my favorite infuencial figures because of how liberal he is. its great to see such a traditionally conservative faith being led into open mindedness.
ReplyDeleteThe pope is such an inspirational figures today, and the fact that he is catholic and can still be open-minded and liberal, is exciting, as he is proving to all the differences in his ways.
ReplyDeleteI was raised Catholic, and I love this guy. He's much more liberal and accepting than the past popes. I'm excited to see how he does things.
