Synthesis: I can connect this to a time when a Florida beauty queen was stripped of her crown after violating the rules by having her makeup done professionally. Although the stakes are higher for Miss Turkey, both had been caught on social media and denied the fact that they truly messed up. By saying/doing something that crosses the line, you can ruin your opportunity...even if you think you've covered it or it's too late. It's important because these women were holding a position in which young people would be influenced by them.
Analysis: I think that it is extremely disrespectful to compare a bodily function to a turning point in history, a history that should be important to you, especially since it's your home. Joking about an event in which 250 people died, people that could've easily been you, makes the situation seem unworthy of being properly remembered. I do understand that Ms. Ensen didn't have a "political agenda" at the time so in a way it should't matter. However, it does matter because your past says something about the kind of person you were and still could be. I know that it is arguable because "you shouldn't judge someone based on their past" and "people change" but in our society, you will be held accountable. To deny it is wrong because she deleted the tweet, therefore, she knows that what she said is wrong. I'm just mad because even after the drama, she proceeded by blaming her menstrual cycle. I don't know if she did it to relate to young girls or just to have an excuse but either way it's wrong. You can control yourself and you should be able to take responsibility like an adult.
