After former St. Louis police officer, Jason Shockley, was acquitted of murder for shooting 24-year-old Lamar Smith the people of St. Louis gathered for what was intended to be a peaceful protest. However, the event later turned out to be a riot when angry protestors collided with the police force. The protest during the night that continued to be peaceful and organized later spiraled out of control as dawn approached and the peaceful protesters returned home while the violent few remained on the streets later attacking businesses, and shops. This also resulted in windows being broken and houses being attacked like the St. Louis mayor, Lydia Krewson. Personally, I believe programs in the police force need to be improved in order to cease police brutality. However, I grow upset with the few people that take their anger out on local businesses or people in power. Violence will be dismissed as an act of terroism, protesting will be noticed as an act seeking justice.

I hate when violent protests turn violent. They were trying to get justice and even then something bad had to happen.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that police need to have better training in order to prevent "trigger happy" police or ptsd from war. There also should have been certain government precautions in order to prevent violent outbreaks such as what happened as the night progressed.
