NFL Players Protest Standing for National Anthem- Victoria Gonzalez

During a football game on Sunday September 24, 2017 NFL players across the league belt refused to stand or be present for the national anthem. Some players stayed in the locker room, others knelt, locked their arms, or raised their fists as a sign of protest in response to President Donald Trump recent comments about the team protesting the anthem earlier this week. After kneeling during the US anthem during a game in London, Trump responded with yet another tweet. "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He's fired! He's fired!'"  In response to Trump's immature tweet, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said claimed, "We stand with out brothers. They have the right to protest. We knelt with them today. Non-violent protests is as American as it gets." Personally, I am tired of hearing peaceful protests as ruffians and rebels. During the time of the Civil Rights Movement the police in charge of brutal massacres like Bloody Sunday were scene as heroes while the attacked were viewed as animals in need of punishment. The parallel between these peaceful protests compared to the Charlottesville incident is terrifying considering the fact that those in power will create a maliciousness around those they feel threatened by. It is a never ending tactic to try and have us believe that those opposing those in power are nothing but terroritsts and it's a tactic we need to acknowledge.

  1. I still can't believe our President says such horrible things about the people living in the country that for some reason, we as a majority, let him run. I think these silent protests are beautiful moments that inspire many.

    1. i agree. Somethings just don't change unless they are fought for. America is a place of freedom and unity and should be celebrated and kept in mind as we progress as a nation.

  2. I'm infuriated as to how biased America's president is. I don't think it's good for the nation(or for anyone, for that matter) to have such a foul mouthed person as a leader. I love these silent protests, it shows that we don't need to be violent or loud to make a point.
