Lunchtime Anti-Bullying App

Finding a place to sit at lunch can be a scary experience, when you are the new kid. However, 16 year-old, Natalie Hampton, is trying to change that. Her app called "Sit With Us" was launched on September 14th, in hopes of decreasing the amount of bulling that takes place during lunch. Natalie recently transferred schools due to this issue, and thinking of the humiliation she used to endure caused her to spark the idea for the app. The "Sit With Us" app is a "free and easy way to connect with friends who would be thrilled to meet new students and sit with them at lunch", says Natalie. Students are able to sign up to become ambassador: meaning that they are willing to host their table for new students to join. All a person has to do to find a place to sit is download the app, create an account, and start requesting on the app, to connect to an ambassador with an open table. This approach to meeting new people relieves the level of stress, because the action of asking to sit with some is private. There is no longer the option of rejection or embarrassment in public.

The purpose of this article is to inform people that there is a not only an awareness of bullying, but also that there is a growing fight against it. Our generation is finding a way to use technology to address bulling in a positive way. Being able to overcome a challenge by connecting with others, is the message being portrayed in this article. It is not what you do to make a difference, but it is how you do it: and by teaming with like minded people, against the act of bullying, problem will continue to go away.

  1. I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! I've always been against the idea of bullying in any way. I don't even approve of my friends making fun of other people. I think the approach she has is a new way that can help others who are bullied overcome their obstacles. I'm not saying make and app, but find solutions and stand up.

  2. This is an amazing idea. It is hard to make friends if you don't know anyone. This is a nice piece of positive news while practically all news stories are negative.

I think that this idea is so beneficial and beautiful! With how teenagers treat each other nowadays, leaving others out, cyber bullying, etc., it's nice to see someone rung to actively change that
