Alaska’s Permafrost is Thawing
Described as “a freezer turning into a refrigerator”, there is no doubt that Alaska’s sub-Arctic climate is gradually slipping away and into the grasp of global warming. One thing that has felt the big consequences of climate change is the Alaskan permafrost. The permafrost has abundant amounts of carbon in the dead organic matter and when thawed it releases carbon dioxide and methane which adds to the endless cycle. If the Earth’s permafrost continues to melt at this rate, the temperature will rise above freezing by 2050.
I have researched the topic of global warming many times and I know a good amount of information. Knowing this, it does not surprise me that the world’s permafrost is melting. Global warming affects everyone, whether you believe in it or not. This article is obviouly trying to show that climate change is real and the effect is has on the environment. This historically ties into when we first started burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, etc. because the #1 cause of climate change is human influence.
I also wrote my article about this topic and agree with what you said about the effects of global warming on everyone. The Industrial Revolution really changed our world and caused major future side effects that our ancestors left for us to solve.
ReplyDeleteBased on the article, is there a way to reverse the effects of global warming and turn the refrigerator back into a freezer?

ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see our planet suffering slowly. We often don't realize the things we do to hurt it. We can also neglect the truth, we know climate change is there, but we keep doing what we've always done. It's like procrastinating on your homework until you're super stressed. We say we'll fix it later, but if we don't do something soon, there won't be anything left to fix.
I hate to read things like this because it's really depressing in the fact that so many still deny the existence of climate change. I wish people would stop trying to refuse facts and just work together to keep the planet healthier. However the fact that this article shows how quickly the change will occur, I am hoping that things will change soon to reverse this effect. I don't know a lot in the realm of climate change but I still feel discomfort while reading. In my opinion, even if you don't believe in climate change, you should still want to keep the planet nice and stable. Do you think there is a way to convince people who hold that belief to still take care of the planet for us all?
