Mariafernanda Gonzalez: Kim Jong Un 'begging for war'

Summary:
At the last UN security council emergency meeting Nikki Haley, US ambassador, stated that Kim Jong Un was basically begging for war after his 6 nuclear test. She asked for the council to put in place the strongest possible sanctions to stop Pyongyang's nuclear actions. After many attempts to solve and diminish tension between the US and South Korea, Haley assures the United Stated does not want war but can't have "unlimited patience" either. The US will protect all territories and stand by its allies. Nikki Haley is opting for a resolution that encourages Kim Jong Un to talk and if needed intensification, a resolution that interferes with the economic pattern leading into Pyongyang's nuclear program.
Analysis:
South Korea has said it is 'willing to wipe out Kim Jong Un's regime'. They have simulated attacks on Pyongyang as well as shown major military force. They are taking precautions on air attacks by activating THAAD launchpads. US president, Donald Trump, has said South Koreas attempts to talk with North Korea will not work. He is lifting payroll restrictions on missiles for S. Koreas use and has given approval for billions of dollars used on weapons.
Other world leaders have offered a "freeze for freeze", an agreement that stops Pyongyang's nuclear actions and also stops the joint military forces of South Korea and the US. Nikki Haley says the proposal is insulting. She portrays it as letting our guards down and a pause on our security. The Russian ambassador states that it is the only diplomatic way out while Haley ends the meeting with saying "we are tired of kicking the can down the road" "enough is enough".
In my opinion I feel like this issue could have been preventable but I also agree with Haley. If we take the 'only' diplomatic way out we would be putting a band-aid on the wound instead of actually providing a permanent resolution. A war is not convenient for the United States at the moment. We are going through problems of our own that are not being addressed with the amount of importance that they deserve , for example the incident of Charlottesville. We also have our planet to think off. A nuclear war could possibly lead to the destruction of our ozone layer. The chemicals expelled from the bombs would cause such a strong radiation that they could cause harm to the health of living organisms. I believe there is a resolution to this conflict that pleases both leaders were just overlooking it because we are so caught up with the concept of world war.
