Luis Gomez allegedly raped 6 women and molested 2 others The eight victim reported " One night while he was putting me to bed he asked if I had to use the bathroom and I said yes and he helped me up and I walked to the toilet... I heard him lock the door, and then he raped me." Gomez typically preyed on women that had Alzheimer's because they were losing their memory and they would forget and usually end up dying. On the other hand these two women were different, they headed to the court room ,wheel-chaired-and-all, to testify their allegations against Gomez. One of the women reported that after the guilty verdict she felt a huge sense of relief. She said it was the best day ever. She sent her dearest regards to her rapist and hoped that "God would do him right even though he did her wrong".
The author of this article was a CNN reporter by the name of Blake Ellis. This article may have opened his eyes up to the level of safety and protection of one's relatives in a similar facility. Prior to this article I had no idea that such heinous crimes were being committed on elders. This made me aware of the idea that anything can happen to you at any age.
I believe that this article was targeted at people of any age and race but especially those who loved ones in nursing home. People need to start asking questions of their elders and their caregivers. It reveals it's also important to do research on the backgrounds of the staff that will be working with your relatives to understand any potential issues that may signal a concern about the quality of care your loved ones may receive. This article was written to open the public eyes and I believe this is very important lesson for everyone to hear. I also think that it is very powerful for a victim to forgive a perpetrator and portray such kindness towards them.
I read this to my family, and this is why I'm constantly paranoid being alone anywhere. I can't believe people like that exist in the world and others have to deal with the scars and the situation.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely disgusting. Nursing homes are getting worse and worse. We really need to start asking questions.
ReplyDeletei agree how awful and disgusting this is. people are torn when they have to put their love ones in homes as is, they do not need this to be concerned about too.
ReplyDeleteBackground checks on the staff is definitely a must. We need caretakers to realize that our loved ones are human beings in need of help, not just defective dolls to use for their own desires. - Bobby
ReplyDeleteIt truly takes a absolutely sick person to want to take advantage of vulnerable people especially in such a malicious way. I would have never imagined anything like this to happen in a nursing home.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many situations like this that happen all over the world that people aren't aware of. In India, the amount of rape crimes that occur are so common that many of these horror stories don't even make it out to public. There should be more awareness about this affair because there are a numerous amount of people who have been sexually harassed and have to fight alone.
