Due to the limited amount of gas in parts of Texas, people have started to panic & hoard gas, and gas prices have gone up. Hurricane Harvey has created this problem. On Saturday afternoon mayor of San Antonio has spoken and told people to stop panicking. He has heard and noticed that people have been not only topping off their gas tanks, when people don't have any at all, but they've been filling up extra gas containers just for themselves.
Hurricane Harvey has destroyed millions of lives and many people worry about getting they're cars to move, some spending $600+ on filling containers full. I understand that it's important because people need to make it to their jobs, but there's way bigger problems to deal with at the moment.
A couple years ago, oil prices rose because they were just high. This is happening again because the lack of gas. It helps the people who take in the money for gas, but it hurts the people who demand it because it's expensive.

People started to panic about the shortage of gas, but there was no shortage to begin with. If the press didn't make this lie up, then nobody would have stressed out about getting gallons of tanks full of gas. Gas prices and lines began to increase throughout the day, and people that truly needed gas in their car didn't have any access to it.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that we weren't really running low on gas, using it all at once however will cause a shortage for the time being
DeleteWell yes it's exaggerated, but at least in my area, many gas stations have bagged up gas pumps to indicate that there is no more. In a day or two it should be back to normal though.
DeleteI think the media over exaggerated the suggestion getting gas because of the gas situation in Houston. Because of their exaggeration many people panicked and bought the gas up too quickly. The mass panic might actually cause a gas shortage, which would cause something that wasn't even an issue in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThe current gas shortage serves as a frightening social experiment of what would happen if there started to be real and serious shortages of commodities we need to maintain our everyday lives. When shortages occur and people start to panic, everyone goes into fend-for-yourselves mode and consequently won't listen to what needs to be done to fix the issue for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Larsen. If this is what happens during a "fake" shortage, what will happen when it's real? I think the government has to prepare for this situation because we must have some sort of rules and a better way to handle it.
DeleteIt's honestly just a big misunderstanding and people need to not panic as much as they did. I think we will know for sure if there is a gas shortage because there will be evidence and they will inform the whole nation if that happens. But we should all be aware to not panic as much as some people did and try to figure out a solution to this problem if it truly happens.
