Russian intervention in the election is old news at this point, but Facebook recently discovered and reported 3000 pro-Trump, racist, advertisements linked to Russia in one way or another. Facebook attempts to defend itself, and Mark claims that Facebook, whether they knew it or not, is a major component in who wins, due to propaganda, fake news, ect. Facebook seeks to "respect the democratic process" and increase their security. At the end of the article although, the author argues that nearly 97% of the 28billion dollars was made through ads.
Scott Shane, the author of this article, has always focused and covered articles about national security, foreign intervention into the process of how we select our leaders would be a major threat to our security in his eyes. Having prior knowledge of previous speculation of Russia intervening in the presidential election, this article proves this point further. I think the point of this article is to show how easily foreign nations can intervene in our security, how many different methods they have, and how corporations may be reluctant to stop it due to money. I think this can be comparable to how people were paranoid about spies, and communists, back in the cold war, coincidentally Russia.
