Mia Ibanez: Puerto Rico Prepares For Category 4 Hurricane Irma
Summary:
Just two weeks ago Texas got news of hurricane Harvey, and since then suffer many casualties. And as of September 4, 2017 (today) we get news stating Puerto Rico, along with the eastern coast of the U.S. is soon to face "Hurricane Irma." It is said to expect rainfall up to 4-8 inches with winds of 60 mph. Currently St. Martin and Anguilla are at high risk because they are to expect winds up to 100 mph and heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Precautions are being made along the coast to clear road ways and the blocked sewer drains from construction. Even though we are not sure when it'll directly hit the U.S. Gaston Browne advised us that the matter of Hurricane Irma is not to be taken lightly, but we must not panic.
Analysis:
This article was written by Scott Neuman who works for NPR.org as a digital news writer and editor. It was published on September 4, 2017 at 3:16 PM ET. Hurricanes have caused people to suffer loss of loved ones, destruction of homes, economic downfall, etc. One specifically that stands out is Hurricane Katrina which killed more than 1800 people and cost $125 billion for reparations. If Hurricane Irma intensifies it can cause Puerto Rico and the east coast massive set backs and casualties.
