Today, a protest was held by fast food workers to demand a higher minimum wage and guarantee workers have access to paid family and medical leave from their employers. The protesters are proposing to raise the current minimum wage, $11 an hour, to $15 an hour. This protest was a part of a national demonstration.Even Bernie Sanders has joined the “fight for 15”
I think, considering the long hours and hard work most fast food workers do, that the minimum wage should be raised. I hope the companies understand and respond to their workers demands.
The “fight for fifteen” began in 2012 and has been called an “unwinnable” fight. The “Fight for 15” have already received raises for 22 million people across the country and do not intend to stop until the whole country's minimum wages has been raised.

I agree, I feel minimum wage should be raised, it's hard to provide for let alone yourself making 11$ an hour, many citizens have families to provide for to. Plus working hard and long hours, citizens should receive the income they deserve.
ReplyDeleteI agree that raising minimum wage would be the best option but some say that it will kill the economy. These people argue that if the cost of paying workers will rise, they simply won't hire as many workers. Also, it is argued that small businesses will "disappear" because they won't be able to pay their workers. Christopher Thornberg, a founding member of Beacon Economics, refutes that Australia has a $19/hour minimum wage and their economy is doing fine.
