Current Event: North Korea’s Hydrogen Bomb
On Sunday, North Korea carried out its most powerful nuclear test to date. They claim to have developed an advanced hydrogen bomb, that can sit on top of an intercontinental ballistic missile. An intercontinental ballistic missile is a missile with a minimum range of 3,400 miles that is used to deliver nuclear weapons. The type of bomb and its size have not actually been verified, but if North Korea's claims are true,  this is a very significant step to the state being able to send nuclear weapons to the U.S. if provoked. After the test was finished, NORSAR, a Norway based group that monitors nuclear tests, stated that his bomb is 8 times as powerful as the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima based on the tremors that followed the test.
I don’t really understand why North Korea is threatening to take out the U.S. in the first place because there would be major repercussions for them, and the rest of the world. I believe that North Korea just wants buzz and something to make them look more powerful than they actually are just to scare people into respecting them. If they actually used this weapon to take out the United States, all of the U.S. allies and more would take North Korea down before they did any more damage.
If this bomb was actually used on the U.S. then the world would probably go into another economic depression, but even more severe than the one that occurred in the 1930s. The United States is the most dominant country when it comes to world economics and international trade. Every year, the U.S. accounts for about one third of the world’s output, and about three fifths of its growth. Some larger cities in America have higher GDPs than entire counties. Trade is a two way street so when the U.S. prospers, other countries prosper. This relates to U.S. history because if this weapon is actually used someday it will go down in U.S. AND world history.

  1. I agree with your statement about North Korea just wanting to create "buzz" because if they truly had that powerful of a bomb already in the testing stage, then the U.S. would be getting severe threats from North Korea. Instead, they have had to put out unreliable claims which cannot really be proven.

  2. I think you're entirely right stating that if North Korea dropped a bomb on the US it would send the world into another Depression, and I also think it's entirely stupid that these threats of mass violence are all an ego war. There is nothing really that they are fighting over, all they want is to establish dominance, and it's awful.

  3. If North Korea had all of the weapons that they say they have, then why haven't they been used already? I agree with you that North Korea is trying to look more powerful than they truly are. They haven't put any of their threats to action because they are not as powerful as they come out to be, and the U.S. has more allies that will help fight against them.

  4. I agree with you that North Korea is doing this so that they look more powerful and scare other countries. There isn't a war to be fight for between North Korea and the U.S, they just want to show who is more dominant.

  5. I do not personally think the US would fall into another depression, but I do think Trump would be so crazy and so extra and just send back dangerous nuclear weapons without a second thought.
