Henry Haas-Withdrawal From South Korea Trade Agreement

Put into action in 2012, the trade agreement between America and South Korea is the 6th largest trade deal in the United States. President Trump is "renegotiating" the trade deal and it is possible that a withdrawal from it all together could occur in the next few days and weeks. The removal from this trade deal could affect the negotiations regarding North Korea between these two countries, and while it is still very possible that it could be just a renegotiation of policies in the agreement, hopefully both the United States and South Korea benifit from whatever comes from this.

In the future this could be a predecessor to more trade agreements destroyed by our president. He has mentioned and almost completed a removal from NAFTA in the past, and has voiced that he still may withdrawal. My only question is, in this time of need, is it right to possibly increase tension between us and our South Korean allies when it could spell trouble for us later?
We may just have to wait and find out.

  2. Now is definitely not the time to be weakening the bonds between us and (arguably) our strongest ally in the region for the sake of both parties involved. I personally feel that, if Trump is being advised by many of his top advisers not to leave the trade deal with South Korea, then abandonment shouldn't even be on the table.

  3. I also hope that both the US and South Korea can benefit from God knows what exactly will be negotiated, but President trump has made it clear that no international agreements will be made happily by him if our country is not benefitting, this conclusion I draw from the reasons he believes NAFTA is a horrible deal for us, though there have been clear, significant, and unprecedented benefits for everyone? But he argues it is not enough and that we have been robbed? What is a true crime is losing trade relations and weakened ones in general with the state we need most to keep an eye on its unfriendly north neighbor.
