Carsyn Gekas 9/3/17

About a week ago Texas took a hard hit. Hurricane Harvey swept across leaving endless amounts of devastation. About 185,149 homes are destroyed. There is nothing that can replace the memories that occurred in all these houses. 80 percent of people don't have flood insurance, so are struggling with what to do. They have lost everything. With 20 trillion gallons of water coming into these small neighborhoods it built up fast. Many people and families were rescued by boat and taken to shelters. This article written by J.J. Gallagher provides lots of accurate quantitative information letting everyone not directly affected know how bad this really is. The images also help us understand what these people are going through.

Throughout history there have been many natural disasters like Harvey that have left areas and states struggling. One of the worst was the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane. It was the most intense hurricane to ever hit the United States. As a category 5 storm it left lots of damage. It hit the hardest in the Upper Florida Keys and also Georgia and the Carolinas. This was a terrible time in history, however everyone worked together to bring everything to the best shape possible. Harvey and The Labor Day hurricane both have made the community stronger then ever.

  1. There have been so many hurricanes to hit the US, but we always bounce back

  2. I agree with all of your points about the destruction of Harvey. All the loss will take a long time to recover and return to Houston's previous state. The intensity of the 1935 hurricane is also heart wrenching. In addition to the past, the approaching Hurricane, Irma, to the Florida will hopefully not be as destructive.
