Madison Ceurter 5th period: The Wait Continues for Safe Tap Water in West Virgina

In Charleston, West Virginia there was a chemical spill in the Elk River.  This has caused people to not have water for three days.  There was 7,500 gallons of 4-methylcyclohexane methanol in the river.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the chemical has dropped below the one part per million threshold and it needs to stay that low for 24 hours before they can wipe out the water system and the do-not-use ban can be lifted.  Some things they want to change because of this is having better chemical storage facilities so the chemical tank doesn't rupture again and clean the plumbing systems out.  Everyone has been told not to use the tap water other then for the toilet.  This has lead to people going to the hospital and reporting nausea, vomiting, headaches, eye and skin irritation and difficulty breathing.  This is crazy and I can't imagine not being able to drink water for three days, I hope that they are able to fix this chemical problem.
