Several days ago, President Barack Obama stated that he smoked pot as a kid even though it was a bad idea. He even stated that it is no where near as dangerous for you than alcohol is. After his announcement, people have begun to analyze the pros and cons of alcohol and marijuana more closely.
Basically, alcohol is the most commonly abused substance among Americans because of people's ability to drink too much which can lead to drunk driving accidents, etc. Because of this abuse, it is easy for people to become addicted, in fact, 1 in every 12 adults has suffered from alcohol abuse/dependence. In contrast, marijuana use can lead to mild withdrawal symptoms, but "Even considering this, it is hard to make a case that it has a high potential for abuse. The physical symptoms of marijuana addiction are nothing like those of the other drugs I've mentioned." States CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. " Studies show that in animals, they are able to consume about 30% of their body mass in cannabis without an overdose. That means that a 160 pound person could eat about 48 pounds of cannabis.
As for long term health risks, there really aren't many for cannabis. However, it can cause temporary psychotic reactions like paranoia and hallucinations, but these reactions are only temporary. On the other hand, alcohol can cause liver disease, neurological problems, psychiatric issues, and can increase your chances of certain types of cancer.

  2. I think that they are both unsafe because when your high you can do stupid things just as when your drunk you do stupid things.

  3. I've seen the effects of both on friends. Personally, being high doesn't seem to do "much". Alcohol on the other hand makes a person dizzy leading to car crashes. I understand why it is illegal until 21.

  4. I think that they are both bad choices. But that's just me.

    1. I like to think that all of my brain cells are important, so prefer avoiding activities that risk destroying them.

  5. Marijuana is a known stress reliever and creativity enhancer (as you can imagine) and within reason, regulation and control, I think that it might not be a bad thing. It would benefit the economy exponentially with being able to put a tax on it, etc.
